Fot those complaining about Petty playing himself, actually we don't know that. He never gives a name. While the film was nowhere near as bad as all these people claim; tryin to sound all artsy, many parts could have been improved upon.
One way to waste a great talent on screen. They should have given him a guitar to welcome Costner. Well, at least Costner is "learning to fly" at the end of the clip. lol
this was a great movie and tom petty said to him your the postman. great movie great actors time tests these movies. but it will go down as great. your famous. good movie. will test the times of time.
You guys are delusional. This is the most embarrassing moment from one of the worst movies ever. Fortunately, we agree that it's awesome, because it's so bad it crosses over into a realm of pure enjoyment.
I mean seriously - Tom Petty is PLAYING HIMSELF in a postapocalyptic drama.
this movie is the biggest all time shit movie, its so shitty its in the top 3 all time list of shit films.

is it just me, or are the book and movie both great , though almost completely different, but both great each in it's own way? Kevin Coster play sthe best a-hole turned reluctant good guy ever9the postman, robin hood, waterworld, ect...)

worst pic?? LOL! this is easily one of the best sci-fi/apocalypse movies ever made. the story is brilliant and easily believable. with the collapse of production and industry, people really would have nothing to be apart of - reestablishing communication would obviously be one of the first priorities and it is genius to revolve the story around that. plus will patton is one of the coolest villains ever. all of his lines are top-notch.
really who cares? tom petty was in it for 5 MINUTES out of a 3-hour movie. it's more of a funny reference for those who would remember him before the war. he doesn't even say who he is/was. it's an inside joke for a generation. at least he wasn't playing his music.
Most movie critics wouldn't know their rear-ends from a hole in the ground, let alone understand the difference between a good movie and a bad movie. I ignore them and everyone else would be best served by doing the same.
fallout was released in september and the postman in december do you really think thats enough time for a film director or writer to work in references to an obscure game that just came out
filmed where my other half lived as a child. good movie.

A better rock-star cameo in this scene would have been Ted Nugent. Because:
(1). The part where he says "no guns are allowed here" would have gotten some real laughs due to the irony.
(2). Ted would be one famous rock star who realistically COULD survive a holocaust due to his knowledge of guns and hunting and so forth.
Don't get me wrong, I like Tom Petty, but the Nuge would have been the perfect choice here.
danning1 2 years ago
Nugent! That's a great casting choice. Nugent would have loved it, in fact, it's weird he never got into acting.
