  • Can anyone help ? i played dark angels for a lonnnnggg time and always came to arguments regarding Plasma rules on either they cost less OR most important that all DA dnt suffer from "Gets Hot" cuz they have experience in maintaining old weaponry cuz they r the 1st legion but on table top what is the rule for DA plasma?

  • cool i have dark angles and they are hard to paint

  • did the catachan green go over a white basecoat?

  • @kiwipile yes the catachan green does go over the white bacecoat

  • Love the stuff man, I dabbled with miniatures before going into Culinary Arts. I can see both arts are much the same in that small touches in foundation are what separate greatness from amateur.

  • that was epic thx for the tips!!!!!

  • You make painting look so easy. WHY CAN'T I PAINT LIKE YOU?!?

  • Hi, What is that blue your using to attatch your model to the old paint pot? thanks

  • how much would you charge for to paint marnius calgar

  • I love your videos, but i was wondering what did you have your mini on? The blue stuff and where can i find it? Thank you for you videos and time!

  • I hugly admire this art, The sculpture of the peice, the painters also, I love 40ks universe lore and games, but i dont play tabletop, im still so tempted just to buy the models and start painting just, because. lol

  • @Theicemonkeyjr I've been doing exactly that for years now.

    Very enjoyable and rewarding. :)

  • whats your favorite army

  • Looks great! Is there anywhere a online-shop where I could such well painted Dark Angels?

  • how did u make the rock hes standing on?

  • why do u wear gloves?

  • Since GW paints are in pots, how do you measure the ratio of dilution? Do you like guess?

  • I'm thinking about getting into this hobby and I have to say, it would cost me a fortune if I followed this guide, you used like £8 worth of paint on the head alone LOL. Looks awesome though.

  • @Anotherhack69

Yea, but if you water down your paint correctly, a single pot could cover a small 1000 point army.

  • amazing paintjob, going to be very helpful ty

  • do i have to paint my whole army like this?

  • You know the problem with your videos is that i don't want to do it any other way anymore. I must paint marines like you do... I really hate you for that XD . For real awesome job you do there keep your mind free man!

  • That is an "awesome paint job" !

  • play with it back and forth -_- thats what she said

  • Many have paid $ for the tutorials you give away freely Les. Makes you special. Thanks.

  • Does this work with Chaos Black undercoat?

  • what chapter is easiest to paint because i am a beginner, plus i watch you all the time and cant seem to do all the small details

  • @LegoCreator919191

    id say necrons or ultramarines

  • its a great idea it also works on nurgle chaos marines

  • sorry lester

  • Het lesley i hope you don't mind but I have painted this guy (with a few differneces), and im going to enter him the youngblood section, if that is not okay i won't do it but i did make changes.

  • How long did it take you to paint this model? And also, how long does it take you to paint a normal Tactical Marine. (Dark Angels colours)

  • awsome but a little bit to light for my taste i prefer them darker but still awsome

  • nice fig but wet blending is a waist of time if you are well practiced in layering you wont waist as much paint.

  • You are sooo awesome!!Well done!

  • Les, any chance you could update the video description with a list of paints? <3

  • Just wondering what material you use for the base, is it cork you use for this base here? Do you have any good ideéas what materials that I can use for the base? I got a pretty large model that I want to give a big stone look a like thing that he will stand on. THANKS!

  • It's a decent TTQ. The only thing I did not like is your blending of the cloth; that did not turn out too good.

  • I would really like a base like yours and i have looked everywhere on the Micro Arts Studio for it but no sign. Could anyone else give me a site where to get bases like these from?

  • and can you make a apothacary

  • Amazing presentation and you explain each detail thats pretty professional :)

  • awesome job on the loin cloth but can you just take a regular space marine and paint it the same way

  • instead of doing catachan green, then CG and DA green, if i undercoat black would DA green, followed by DA green + snot green on raised areas work aswell?

  • @night6sceptre101 thats wut i did and it looks good...1. base coat CB...2. drybrush DA green...3. drybrush DA green + snot green 1:1 mix...4. drybrush snot green...5. wash thraka green...6. highlight snotgreen...and then do wuteva u want for the accessories and weapons....mine turned out really nice

  • also the site wont work :( how do i do the wash????

  • hello i tried this with a black undercoat and it doesnt look as good. but for the mixture of the catachan green and Dark Angels green how much should i put because mine looks like snot green after the mixture.

  • What model is this? i want it:D

  • @mesa069 It's from the SM Veteran MK2 set. But you can buy him by himself for like $13 on Gw's site. GW-40k-SM-Elites.

  • @awesomepaintjob Dude, your painting advice has turned my Dark Angels into bad-asses. Thank you.

  • @awesomepaintjob can i get the same results with chaos black as ground spray?

  • @mesa069 u mUY mAl

  • This vid sure helped trying to wet blend the robes on my DA veterans. I didn't go as dark as you did in the video but my main goal was not to overdo it, or have to end up just painting brown in cracks. Thanks for the vid.

  • lol i have the exact same glass cup

  • How long did it take to paint the model?

  • Pallid Flesh... Thats not gW is it ?

  • why are primers important? they're kinda expensive at my game store, so i was wondering if it would be ok if i avoided them or if i did need to buy a can for my projects.

  • dont use the water from your house tap. go buy a jug of water that is demineralized.

  • PART TWO? but that figure is practically done already! You use all your different paints so well. You are so awesome.

  • how did ytou make the mini

  • I tried that drying upside down technique - it worked brilliantly!

  • Great guide! You're very good to paint!

  • i like ur style but the armour on the dark angel is way to light... i thnk if u found a way for dark angels green then tht would be awesome.. still gud video

  • How long have you been painting?

  • Thanks a million for all of your videos! They are a source of inspiration and encourage me (and many others) to use new techniques. I started blending, for instance.

btw. Do you have any armies yourself? Or do you just paint up marines in random chapter colours?

  • Thx for all your great videos !!

  • brush marks is the video? where I can get one like it?

  • great video, its a great help

  • Argh, I can't get my Catachan Green to coat thickly! You seem to be able to coat it so no white shows through AND it's diluted :( The white primer on mine shows through even when it is not diluted, any tips? Still, awesome video and great result Les.

  • @Whitescare47 try a dark primer. black

  • @Whitescare47 Its about patience and lots of coats, dont be tempted to put it down really thick. Just build it up coat by coat trying to keep it even. Paint, wait to dry, repeat.

  • what primers are better than the citadel ones?and where can i get a grey primer?

  • @MJtheKandyman

Try armypainter sprays - you can get them from giftsforgeeks (google 'em).

  • could this work with salamanders too if i use DA green instead of katachan?

  • Comment removed

  • painting an army like this must suck. but at a good price

  • @Hammerofwar1 dude,it's like this with any army, unless your a lazy f***...

  • @Hammerofwar1 dude, is like tis with any warhammer army, unless your a lazy f*** and only prime them...

  • Anyone thats tried to paint these little bastards has to respect what you do. You re a pin point accurate pro dude...Cudos and respect

  • hi, can u sell,me one of ur dark angel?? thanks.

  • hi, can u sell,me one of ur dark angel?? thanks.

  • Could you please tell me all the paints that were used to paint the dark angels. And also you should also put all the paints that you used in the video description, it would be very helpful.

  • @Bloopartyhat Devlan Mud

  • @awesomepaintjob what are you using for a model holder?

  • What is the GW equivelant of dark sepia wash?

  • What is the GW equivelant of dark sepia was?

  • this guy is very talented :)

  • are u just a painter or do you own an army?

  • For many, many years I've never felt the need to sign up to uTube, but after recently getting into modelling and then coming across your work in a massive search for "how to's", I just had to in order to offer my thanks.

Absolutely brilliant Les. I cannot stress enough how excellent your video on this marine is and how much it has helped me WANT to try and paint mine up. Direct and to the point with everything I should need, other than the skill. Thanks again, a great tool to use.

  • Werry nice painting :) buy i got question ?? can u try paint the space marine in desert moro colours :) ???

  • Hellou u wery nice paint the models :)

but i got question u can try paint the space marines the moro desert colours :)

  • what primer do you use

  • @clarkey1991bba Color Place Flat White.

  • thanks man, as soon as i posted the comment, i noticed your response to the comment below.....great vids, inspirational

  • dude, with every video i watch of urs i am more and more inspired to paint! one question, what do use as a primer? and do u thing a windsor & newton series 7 0 is as good a brush as u are using in the vids?

  • @ocarlo3 Thanks! I used Color Place Flat White spray paint as primer. Or airbrush Vallejo Model Air Gray Primer. And WN Series 7 is a VERY GOOD brush. Especially if you thin your paints as kolinsky brushes are for water colors.

  • Did you use White spray for undercout the model?

  • @TheRuud17 Yes

  • @awesomepaintjob btw, what is that type of brish you use for the highlights?

  • could you pleas do a vid on pre herasy dark angels because iv got no idea how to paint them

  • @loading1231 They are Black. The Black Templaers tutorial should be up in the next few days and you can use those techniques on your PH Dark Angels.

  • can u do black templars plz ty

  • awesomepaintjob awesome vids any other words than awesome to use here

  • omg, awsomepaintjob, its still happening, i washed them with soap and a toothbrush, and its not made a diff, any other tips man? x

  • @sickedsam spray prime your model is the only solution I can think of at this point.

  • @sickedsam if it is too cold it might do that.

  • please can somone tell me why when i paint the black basecoat on my metal models it just start grouping in area's and leaving metal showing, and i have to end up doing 2 - 3 coats of black just cover it all!! can somone explain how to stop it please, thanks!

  • @sickedsam Model must be cleaned first. Metal models have rough texture and retain much of the mold release from the manufacturer. Dish soap, warm water, and an old tooth brush work great. Second is if you are not spray priming first, diluting the paint will cause it to bead up. So if you have to paint directly on metal DO NOT dilute. This may give you brush strokes, but if you are not priming the model anyway, it hinders your finished product.

  • I am very greatful for your reply man, i really am, but ... i cleaned one of my models, actuly the exacy guy in this vid, with tooth brush, hot water etc, and it still made the chaos black group together, have u any more tips? once more i really respect you for replying to everything you can, ur such a good patinter! thanks again mate

  • what kind of paintbrush are u using, its like the bristles dont even move and the paint goes on so well

  • @ItsSpecialOps the answer reveals itself at 9:31 in the video.

  • 9.19 oO

  • would you ever paint on some dynamic light, for example muzzle flare?

  • could you possibly just dilute your paint by pouring 50/50 paint and water into your reaper bottles? and also what brush do you use?

  • lol i pay you for pating my army XD

  • Very nice! Can I ask you few questions:

    1) How long do you let them dry after the wet blend. I tried it but when I try to wet blend, metal figures paint is very thick and at the end, there will be metal showing. What am I doing wrong? Do I use too much water or too thick paint? If I use thinner paint, it will be almost like a water. And the paint which I am using is Bleached bone.

  • I after wet blending leave it for 30 minutes or so :) and do you prime your models? You can try not to thin your paint as much and see how that works :).

  • im not the guy ur asking, but it happens all the time, just dont put to much on cus that'l cause the paint to group up and leave bits unpainted, apply 2 -4 coats also if its a light colour, hope that helps.

  • Hey Les, just wanted to say "Thank You" for your awesome tutorials. They helped me a ton.

BTW do you plan on doing a Deathwing tutorial any time soon? That would be awesome

  • Is it just me - or did they change the formula for Snakebite Leather? I used to love using that for shading a bone/antique white color - but it doesn't seem to work as well now

  • so ive watched this a few times... amazing!.. i paint imperial fists... but ive used a little bit from all your videos to help me!!... so thanks... question... what do you let dry upside down?... the bleached bone?... and if so is that the first coat of any kind of color you put on the loin cloth?... minus primer ofcourse...

  • @austinEvWy0709 Thanks! The wash is what I let dry upside down.

  • i dont understand the difference btw letting the wash drying upside down or "normal" position, why does it make such a different effect?

  • @masterkiller49 the picture shows the difference. If you don't see the advantage I don't know what to tell you lol.

  • sorry if i sound like a noob, but is this warhammer?

  • @TheDarkDiaper warhammer 40k

  • nice nice, wet blending is pretty tight, good work man

  • ur amazin i suck compared to you

  • Nice.

    And nice song.

  • BEST WARHAMMER PAINTING TUT ON U TUBE

u have inspired me to paint dark angels

    thankyou les

  • i dotn even collect dark angels but seing these videos makes me want to

  • sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you wet blending with 3 different brushes? or picking up and mixing and getting the color needed with the same brush...?

  • @thisdaywakes I use the same brush rinsing between color changes.

  • awesome,

its good to see someone else who primers DA's in white aswell!!!

  • hey man i was just wondering what do you attach your models to when you paint them?

is it a cork with some blue tac?

by the way this is the best dark angels tutorial i have seen on youtube!

  • Thanks! It's a GW pot with 40mm base glued on top. Then a big glob of 3M Blue Tac.

  • thanks

  • thanks a lot for your videos. they give inspiration to us 'common mortals' :P

  • I like the way you brought out his baldness with elf flesh

  • have you done black templars? if not.... could plz :D

  • lol yes... I get asked all the time... these videos take time and I will get to all the popular SM first. I realize black is another trouble color for people to do. It might be next.

  • this is the 2nd time im watching this vid. i cant get a grip on the last pic.

in my mind its like, 'there's more to paint?'

but then again its Les. :)

cool stuff bro. btw other than the main SM chapters, are u going into the sub chapters? like flesh tearers (i think) etc?

  • hehe.. yes there will be more!

The list of all the SM chapters to be done is in the link in the description at rogue-market. Flesh Tearers are on there :)

  • Hey Les! Just dropping in to say a big "thank you" for all the videos. Somehow they really get me to painting my stuff!^^ Also your video about wetblending made me absolutely want to try it out, too. (btw, where is it now? the one with the warjack)

Just keep up the nice work, keep the vids coming and maybe you could do some fantasy stuff somewhen ;)

    Greetings from Austria

  • I'm glad I can motivate you! The wet blend video needed an update so it and a couple other videos have been deleted. Like the pigment vids, wet blend, and pencil lining.

  • I know you have probably said before but what is you water mix ratio? I think you use a flow aid?

  • 10:1 distilled water/ Liquitex flow aid

  • Excellent video Les. Your best so far. I've watched this one several times. Thanks, your hard work is appreciated. 5+

  • so pro man, keep it up!

  • Hi there,

Les i think you make a mistake that slow dry. we cant add more then 25% of slow to paint. it will make the paint wont dry

    Cheers

P.S i read from my W&N retarder i mean no offend

  • I use Liquitex slow dri and the mix I used in the video dries. So no mistake. You are talking about another brand I have no experience with. I even stat in the video to follow your own brands instructions... I covered it well I thought.

  • can u do a how to paint purple video or something im starting emperors children and would like a reference

  • Souldrinkers would showcase my purple method.. And it would be fun to paint. That will come soon Andrew.

  • Also when ur shading and highlighting under the light SQUINT u dont have to but its good to SQUINT

  • Does anyone know if Flowaid works for wet blending?

  • it's not a drying retarder. So when applied thin the paint will dry like normal.

  • What type of brushes do you use..???

  • it's a secret that only reveals itself to those that watch the video to the very end :)

  • @awesomepaintjob oops, lol, :) thanks for the great vids

  • Is that an Aussie accent in the intro?

  • the Queens English accent :)

  • nice jobthis really is an awesome paintjob!!

  • this video has your commentary. Are you using the mic on your cam?

  • no I record the vocals after the video has been edited. I record through my headset Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000.

  • Ah. What's your experience with the cam mic?
