releasing sand would unlock the capital to descend and move a cedar pillar to push underground levers and move the elevator up and down, but to raise it again, it needed something more than the building as a machine. It has to be that the Priests had to stand in one place the Men gathered into one place, and the dry land appeared , it says in Genesis 1. So the ingathering of the weight of the men ( Hebrew "Men" = Water) would push down the lifting lever to raise the room in the right place

so, when the capitals retracted, did the roof of the temple collapse?

or was there simply a 2 cubit gap between the top of the capital and the ceiling of the temple?

either way, it seems like the babylonians would have noticed. they must have jacked them back up after they hid the ark, to conceal the levers, dont ya think?

@flashypaws I think he said that these pillars didn't support anything, and if that's the case, then obviously the roof wouldn't have collapsed.

The question I have is - if the pillars were broken open to release the sand holding up the capitals, would the Babylonians have noticed that? Perhaps they did, but that probably didn't matter to them.

My thought has always been that someone knows where they ark is, and has it in hiding until a 3rd temple is built. Rood's hypothesis is as good as any.
