CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME: Can you play this game on multiple PC's or is it limited to one PC? I bought the game and used the serial code for my PC but i want to take it to a friends house and play it, can i use the serial code there too??
I think that starting formation should look like this :
First row heavy infantry with good deffence points, second row light/heavy infantry with good attack points, third row is the archers preffer having 5 of them in any army(only if they are good, peasent archers and those with less than 7 missle attack points suck) and final row is cavarly and general, you put siege engines and cannons on a side on higher ground and protect them with 1 heavy infantry, and missle cavarly in front of them all.
well... your army was just awesome and better equipped that your enemy's, you didnt use your cavalry properly, cuz your infantry killed the most people while your cavalry (GOTHIC KNIGHTS) was having fun with your enemy's dispersed soldiers... not the best battle i've seen
i have won a battle when 2 crusader armies were attacking Jerusalem, 1000 vs 4000, that was an epic battle, or english army won a battle against french army, 1500 (armoured sergeants and longbowmen) vs 3000 knights..
You had much better quality troops and you had about the same or more troops than the enemy. I won a battle on hard diff with 3 stacks of Scottish pikeman ( don't know what they're called ) against more than a thousand soldiers , that was an epic battle

@TheBrunott play as a muslim or orthdox faction! I agree with you, i played as venice and the pope is always saying, "stop the war with milan" "stop the war with sicily" etc. That's why i play as Byzantium, no holdbacks and the prestige of byzantium is of course being the true roman empire!
I'm not saying this video is bad, but it doesn't account for the most common situations, like being outnumbered, lacking a troop type, siege defence/offense, or quality of troops.
@SamPD2 Gunpowder weapons did have an impact but it took a long time before firearms were really able to fully supplant weapons like the longbow. Biggest advantage I see to early firearms is it only took about a week to train a solider in their use and the solider could carry everything for a days worth of fighting on his person. A longbow man could go through half a wagon of arrows in a single battle. Logistics were very difficult back then due to very poor roads so that is important.
@SamPD2 I see. Historically, the pike started to make a big difference. Politically and socially the rediscovery of Roman tactics during the Renaissance as well as the rise of power for Kings started to undermine the flower of Chivalry. Still I like the old hand gonnes. It's a walking stick! It's a gun! It's a walking stick AND a gun! Get yours NOW!
It didnt cost much at all you could probs get that for like £300-500
I was given the computer but it didnt come with RAM or graphics card so bought the graphics card for £30 and got given another computer that had 4GB of ram and took that so i think i got a real good deal a quite a decent pc for only £30 bargin of the year in my books
Wait! Stop! Do NOT do as the player has done in this video. When ordering a line to advance it is feasible order multiple units at once, but NEVER order an attack in this manner. Command your units separately to attack individual enemy units, otherwise you'll have a big cluster fuck as all your units try to attack the same foe.
@ashkrowe it would take too much time because the troop was already pretty close, he had too many groups to control. eventually, it becomes possible to manage every units. I do agree he could have taken 2 groups of units and charge them one by one. once, I remember, I did one unit per time, but the problem was, they all went completely unsync, and the ennemy could beat up one unit at a time. so a charge like that is not such a bad idea
@oly355 One tactic is to order a general advance but only order them up so far then as they advance you order them individually. As you say sometimes there can be chaos but the idea is to adjust for it as it happens. If you're setting up a huge calvary charge and some spearmen happen to jump in the way it's easy to deflect your charge away from them if you're paying attention closely. Same with infantry.

2. Never let your cavalry get bogged down in melee. Just charge, pull back, charge again and so on.
3. Never try to take on misile cavalry, your knights will end up dead.
Maybe I've just had more problems with glitches than usual. I understand how to use units tactically well enough, but the knights for example never seem to actually kill people when they're charging, and they are constantly starting and stopping inexplicably.
Also, they seem incapable of running down routing units.
Well thatdoes sound like a bug of some sort. If you perform a succesful charge you should always see people flying all over the place.
Controlling cavalry can be abit daunting at times however. You should always stop your knights for a second to form a line before starting the charge. honestly, comparing the cavalry charges from M2TW to RTW the ones from M2tw are real puke!!!!
in rome, seleucid cataphracts would send people flying in every direction(even phalanx pikemen), but on medieval... its lucky to see some one flying even with the timurid war elephants!!!!!!!
@XDlolzilla I agree that the charges of some cavalry units were even more powerful in RTW, but I also think that they were ridiculously overpowered. In M2TW they struck a happy medium, where heavy cavalry is really powerful (a lot more than they were IRL) but still keep the game balanced. M2TW is not a simulation but it is without doubt the best balanced TW game.
@Finkeren lol those are the rules of the game, yea you remembered those pretty well, but you didnt do too well on your history class have you?
A charge of heavily armoured knights on top of heavily armoured horses was devastating in almost any case. A knight (with his horse) weighs about 500 kg man, i dont know if any line of infantry can endure a hit from a 500 kg heavy, fast, pointy thing. I said almost any case because only pikemen could reppel a charge like that if they ground their pikes.
@lolyjoly123 but there are thousands of people in an army, even if a knight broke the lines, a simple sword swipe, axe swing, or anybody that can take a knight of his horse will be the knights ultimate undoing.
@ThePersonman09 first of all, a group of knights who charged a line of inf killed the first two lines of infantry and then killed the third and fourth line by them selves, and then of course the would retreat so that allied infantry comes in and then its a matter of sweeping the rest of the enemies. In this game it doesnt work like that, knights carge, they kill lets say 2/3 of the first line, then they kill a couple of more guys with their swords, and then the must retreat or get slaughtered.
@lolyjoly123 first off, im not talkin about some game, im talkin about real life. In real life few people had the money to get a warhorse, armor, and weapons. in the real world, kings made shittons of the poor populace to go to war, and what didi they have, cheap weopons like hammers, axes, and spears. Now a few knights can't take out that many peasants and then the few nobles who did have access to horse maiming weapons. Also fighting from a horse is actually kind of awkward.
@lolyjoly123 Sorry but you're wrong. Charging heavy cav was extremely effective against undiciplined troops who didn't hold the line, but once they were faced with rough ground or well exercised infantry with polearms the heavies were just about useless. Take the Battle of the Golden Spurs for instance: 100s of knights defeated by a militia, mostly unarmoured and armed only with a five foot stick with a spike (Goedendag)
@lolyjoly123 I did read your comment, but if you knew a little history you'd know that the battle of the Golden Spurs was NOT fought with pikes or any other long polearm. The Goedendag is pretty much a long club with a metal spike on top and that was all the Dutch militias needed when working together as a unit and taking advantage of the terrain.
You seem to think that cavalry charges in medieval times happened the way they are portrayed in movies (and M2TW) where a full line of horses charge head on at full speed into the waiting polearms. Even though that did happen on occasion (see Bannock Burn day 1) it almost always ended in disaster for the knights. Charges were used for flanking attacks or for trampling a broken of fleeing foe.
Heavy cavalry was devastating against a panicking or scattered foe but was notoriously bad at breaking diciplined lines of infantry. This was the case from the failure of the cavalry at Hastings in 1066 right up to the disasters for the French knights in the Hundred Years War.
@Finkeren OK, it is obvious, you have your opinion and I have mine.I dont think you are unintelligent because your opinion and it seems that neither will you change my opinion nor will i change yours. So I have made a decision to stop arguing with you. Good luck with your life and bye bye.
@Finkeren I just wish that next time you take a trip back in time bring a cam corder please, and if you read old stories and notes of battle campaigns of the kings of England they talk about how feared Cavalry was and how devastating the French cavarly was against there lines. A Spear is a wooden spike held by a 180 pound man, While there is a 300 pound Armoured animal plus armoured man Ramming the lines thats alot of force man
@CapitanGenocide buth thats wy a spear wall was so extremlly efective wen more than 400 ppounds go straight into one point not even the best armor could stand that a spear and a strong man was the best equipment against any mounted enemy(exept the feared mongols who were olmost unstotable)
@Falconpunch82 You recall incorrectly. The Norman cavalry at Hasting performed rather poorly against the Saxon shield wall. It was only when their ranks was broken - first when chasing down fleeing Norman infantry, later through casualties, fatigue and archer attacks - that the cavalry proved effective. Hastings was a really close fought battle, and the Normans won thanks to their combined arms approach rather than their cavalry alone.
@Finkeren Using Hastings as an example is not reallt fair though, because the Norman knights had apparently not yet adopted the tactic of charging with their lances couched, but descriptions of later battles (see Falkirk, Bannock Burn and Golden Spurs) seem to indicate, that heavy cavalry faired poorly against determined and diciplined infantry even at a later date.
@Finkeren it depends, i've only played as byzantium and sometimes some heavy cavalry fuck up, those lancers always get pwnd and they almost never lift and send infantry flying, i only use general bodyguard or kataphroi for that, i always use weak armies, they are compensated because 60% of my army is archery and missile cavalry rest are infantry and heavy cavalry, it works, my infantry almost never fights yet the archers maul anything down!
@Justinian43 If you want to experience more realistic cavalry you should get the Stainless Steel 6.4 total conversion. Here it is MUCH harder to control melee cavalry to be most effective and get them to charge correctly.
In general your cavalry should never charge infantry units head on (unless they're squishy archers) but should only be used to crush units that are already engaged in melee with other infantry.
i did not know that, i always charge my cavalry head on! maybe that's why my lancers get mauled, but the issue is that my tactics are.. well byzantine! In the field i almost never have the need to waste my infantry since byzantium is pretty weak, units-wise, so i compensate with tactics that almos never involve melee combat except when i charge cavalry against general bodyguard! But i still haven't met the mongols, i usually quit and start over, with mongols my tactics will change!
best defense is attack, although you have fewer people to attack the enemy where he not expect victory guaranteed in medieval 2 .third age retrofi rome castom campaing Stainless Steel 6.0 in every total war
The best tactic for any total war game is: get ur cavary charge round the back and kill the enemy general, this usually works coos the enemy morale drops though the floor.
Yes but What I do is The Spearmen on the general flancs of stakes in behind. Also you lose to much in the attemptin multiplayer if you do that you get hammerd.
One of the best tricks is make A 3 double line. First archers, Then Spears In the middle strong melee behind spears. And the flanks Cavalry. If They try to flank you can always let the melee back up while spears holding the most punch. So the cavalry cant punch trough the middle. With the horses you try to circle them and attack. The archers always run back to second line if they are charged so you can easily let them range and always let them backup by melee.
why is my game lagging? i never even knew this quality was possible! i have the capabilities for it but still, it wont stop lagging, and yes i have lowered graphics... HELP PLEASE!
Mr brother posted that last comment, I'm going to reply on his behalf. We are running an Intel Duo Core CPU @ 2.6GHz with 4GB RAM and a standard integrated Dell GFX card (G31/G33). Winows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. The game stutters and has a very low frame rate. Any idea why?
in options/game settings or graphics settings turn grass efects off couse that is a huge lagger. (i have under min requierments and turned off the grass and the lowest setting works fine, not 1s has it lagged.
it might be ram. i have empire total war sucks on my pc. barely runs thats why i play rome or medeival II because i like theese old games with shit graphics but great gameplay fuck graphics i put on lowest so i can put army units on highest. XD
the citezins wont revolt quick then. and serious, the soldiers who flee, arent mostly the superior troops.. and the quick cash, there are benifits in ransom them
yea that's true but i'm not sure of it. for example, you defeat an army of 2000 men, you take 1800 prisoners. thats one amount of troops i'm not going to ransom :D no matter what the value is :D
all unis 150 men and then i think because i havent played on it in a wile when i was england i put 5 englands as allies and then say 5 scotish and so on. somehow i did but it was super lag :L
you meen under your control orin 1 battle? in one battle 24,000. under your control im not sure it would be 150 men in each unit slot but i forget how many there are.
yeah but ive recently had my computer debugged everything wiped off fresh start and im going to reinstall it :) because i had so much unwanted stuff on my computer and it was getting laggy.
awesome.

honestly, comparing the cavalry charges from M2TW to RTW the ones from M2tw are real puke!!!!
in rome, seleucid cataphracts would send people flying in every direction(even phalanx pikemen), but on medieval... its lucky to see some one flying even with the timurid war elephants!!!!!!!
XDlolzilla 1 year ago
@XDlolzilla I agree that the charges of some cavalry units were even more powerful in RTW, but I also think that they were ridiculously overpowered. In M2TW they struck a happy medium, where heavy cavalry is really powerful (a lot more than they were IRL) but still keep the game balanced. M2TW is not a simulation but it is without doubt the best balanced TW game.
Finkeren 1 year ago
@Finkeren lol those are the rules of the game, yea you remembered those pretty well, but you didnt do too well on your history class have you?
A charge of heavily armoured knights on top of heavily armoured horses was devastating in almost any case. A knight (with his horse) weighs about 500 kg man, i dont know if any line of infantry can endure a hit from a 500 kg heavy, fast, pointy thing. I said almost any case because only pikemen could reppel a charge like that if they ground their pikes.
lolyjoly123 1 year ago
@lolyjoly123 but there are thousands of people in an army, even if a knight broke the lines, a simple sword swipe, axe swing, or anybody that can take a knight of his horse will be the knights ultimate undoing.
ThePersonman09 1 year ago
@ThePersonman09 first of all, a group of knights who charged a line of inf killed the first two lines of infantry and then killed the third and fourth line by them selves, and then of course the would retreat so that allied infantry comes in and then its a matter of sweeping the rest of the enemies. In this game it doesnt work like that, knights carge, they kill lets say 2/3 of the first line, then they kill a couple of more guys with their swords, and then the must retreat or get slaughtered.
lolyjoly123 1 year ago
@lolyjoly123 first off, im not talkin about some game, im talkin about real life. In real life few people had the money to get a warhorse, armor, and weapons. in the real world, kings made shittons of the poor populace to go to war, and what didi they have, cheap weopons like hammers, axes, and spears. Now a few knights can't take out that many peasants and then the few nobles who did have access to horse maiming weapons. Also fighting from a horse is actually kind of awkward.
ThePersonman09 1 year ago
@lolyjoly123 Sorry but you're wrong. Charging heavy cav was extremely effective against undiciplined troops who didn't hold the line, but once they were faced with rough ground or well exercised infantry with polearms the heavies were just about useless. Take the Battle of the Golden Spurs for instance: 100s of knights defeated by a militia, mostly unarmoured and armed only with a five foot stick with a spike (Goedendag)
Finkeren 1 year ago
@Finkeren i did say that pike men were effective against knights, read my past post before commenting on the argument ;)
lolyjoly123 1 year ago
@lolyjoly123 I did read your comment, but if you knew a little history you'd know that the battle of the Golden Spurs was NOT fought with pikes or any other long polearm. The Goedendag is pretty much a long club with a metal spike on top and that was all the Dutch militias needed when working together as a unit and taking advantage of the terrain.
Finkeren 1 year ago
You seem to think that cavalry charges in medieval times happened the way they are portrayed in movies (and M2TW) where a full line of horses charge head on at full speed into the waiting polearms. Even though that did happen on occasion (see Bannock Burn day 1) it almost always ended in disaster for the knights. Charges were used for flanking attacks or for trampling a broken of fleeing foe.
Finkeren 1 year ago
Heavy cavalry was devastating against a panicking or scattered foe but was notoriously bad at breaking diciplined lines of infantry. This was the case from the failure of the cavalry at Hastings in 1066 right up to the disasters for the French knights in the Hundred Years War.
Finkeren 1 year ago
@Finkeren OK, it is obvious, you have your opinion and I have mine.I dont think you are unintelligent because your opinion and it seems that neither will you change my opinion nor will i change yours. So I have made a decision to stop arguing with you. Good luck with your life and bye bye.
lolyjoly123 1 year ago
@Finkeren I just wish that next time you take a trip back in time bring a cam corder please, and if you read old stories and notes of battle campaigns of the kings of England they talk about how feared Cavalry was and how devastating the French cavarly was against there lines. A Spear is a wooden spike held by a 180 pound man, While there is a 300 pound Armoured animal plus armoured man Ramming the lines thats alot of force man
CapitanGenocide 1 year ago
@CapitanGenocide buth thats wy a spear wall was so extremlly efective wen more than 400 ppounds go straight into one point not even the best armor could stand that a spear and a strong man was the best equipment against any mounted enemy(exept the feared mongols who were olmost unstotable)
IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA 11 months ago
@Finkeren uuummmm I seem to recall that the norman cavalry destroyed the saxon infantry in 1066...
Falconpunch82 1 year ago
@Falconpunch82 You recall incorrectly. The Norman cavalry at Hasting performed rather poorly against the Saxon shield wall. It was only when their ranks was broken - first when chasing down fleeing Norman infantry, later through casualties, fatigue and archer attacks - that the cavalry proved effective. Hastings was a really close fought battle, and the Normans won thanks to their combined arms approach rather than their cavalry alone.
Finkeren 9 months ago
@Finkeren Using Hastings as an example is not reallt fair though, because the Norman knights had apparently not yet adopted the tactic of charging with their lances couched, but descriptions of later battles (see Falkirk, Bannock Burn and Golden Spurs) seem to indicate, that heavy cavalry faired poorly against determined and diciplined infantry even at a later date.
Finkeren 9 months ago
@Finkeren you are absolutely correct!
imreallydumb123 1 year ago
@Finkeren lol ya thats the only way i can win it over internet without getting my heavy calv raped
MrMeineNamen 6 months ago
@Finkeren it depends, i've only played as byzantium and sometimes some heavy cavalry fuck up, those lancers always get pwnd and they almost never lift and send infantry flying, i only use general bodyguard or kataphroi for that, i always use weak armies, they are compensated because 60% of my army is archery and missile cavalry rest are infantry and heavy cavalry, it works, my infantry almost never fights yet the archers maul anything down!
Justinian43 5 months ago
@Justinian43 If you want to experience more realistic cavalry you should get the Stainless Steel 6.4 total conversion. Here it is MUCH harder to control melee cavalry to be most effective and get them to charge correctly.
In general your cavalry should never charge infantry units head on (unless they're squishy archers) but should only be used to crush units that are already engaged in melee with other infantry.
Finkeren 5 months ago
i did not know that, i always charge my cavalry head on! maybe that's why my lancers get mauled, but the issue is that my tactics are.. well byzantine!
Justinian43 5 months ago
Is this a tutorial in the game or something? I have the game but how do I find this battle with the commentator guy that is helping?

Yes, it's the tutorial. You'll have a adviser too in the campaign battles and in planning phrases.

watzman123321123321 2 years ago
best defense is attack, although you have fewer people to attack the enemy where he not expect victory guaranteed in medieval 2 .third age retrofi rome castom campaing Stainless Steel 6.0 in every total war
Zlatar92 2 years ago
The best tactic for any total war game is: get ur cavary charge round the back and kill the enemy general, this usually works coos the enemy morale drops though the floor.
Chizzy941 2 years ago 2
Yes but What I do is The Spearmen on the general flancs of stakes in behind. Also you lose to much in the attemptin multiplayer if you do that you get hammerd.

FelixTheBarbarian 2 years ago
No there isnt, one of the very few things that is actually better about Empire
BonnieBlueFlag1314 2 years ago
how can you increase unit size also? battles are not very fun with only 1000 men or so...max...
FelixTheBarbarian 2 years ago
Hey atilla...what kind of computer do you use?
JonnieBoy251 2 years ago
One of the best tricks is make A 3 double line. First archers, Then Spears In the middle strong melee behind spears. And the flanks Cavalry. If They try to flank you can always let the melee back up while spears holding the most punch. So the cavalry cant punch trough the middle. With the horses you try to circle them and attack. The archers always run back to second line if they are charged so you can easily let them range and always let them backup by melee.

attila can you make these vids for empire like a campaing stragety and battle stragety

Any idea why?

its always a good idea to exterminate the prisoners of war
Saffrabeach 2 years ago
why ? its better to ransom them. + you get more Chivalry points with that general and your relations with the enemy will improve
britishvision 2 years ago
if you ransom them you'll have the risk of fighting them twice in an other battle
Chivalry ? if you see an inquisitor in your regions, to give your general a trial. Just kill them
Saffrabeach 2 years ago
the citezins wont revolt quick then. and serious, the soldiers who flee, arent mostly the superior troops.. and the quick cash, there are benifits in ransom them
britishvision 2 years ago
yea that's true but i'm not sure of it. for example, you defeat an army of 2000 men, you take 1800 prisoners. thats one amount of troops i'm not going to ransom :D no matter what the value is :D
Saffrabeach 2 years ago
if you capture 1800 soldiers, they arent the best troops in that army, just light infantry, the heavy ones wont flee so quickly ;)
britishvision 2 years ago
true, but i don't want to fight them again so the easiest way is to kill them all :D
