1. The Rock got skinnier because, according to him, he was too bulky for most Hollywood roles after the Scorpion King. They wanted him about 240 lbs and he was 275, so he started working out differently. He was playing Marines and soldiers. Marines / special forces guys are never huge.

2. When he took acting classes, he learned to utilize his diaphram better, and use better diction. If you notice, he had a slight southern florida accent. Now he doesn't.
