Just asking, if the Americans are such good fighters how come they've lost about 1,800 men in Afghanistan compared to the British loss of 400 and the Australian loss of 32? It seems that British and Aussie troops are much better. But the Americans have some of the best technology. Also Australia may have lost less because we probably don't have as many soldiers there as Britain.

Tragically, President Madison didn't know that this practice had stopped before the declaration of war. My main point being, that this was not merely an aggressive war against Britain to gain territories, but also in many parts was defensive war against a gross injustice.

The Battle of New Orleans should never have happend because the war ended two weeks before this battle. Such a tragedy.

I agree that Britain won militarily, but the US won something: the pride of knowing that we weren't just some passing phase, but a real country that, twice bore the severe ass-kicking but coming out on top simply because we SURVIVED.
Any logical person may have been wise to think the revolution a mere lucky fluke, but after 1812, Americans thought: we can actually do this! We arrived at that point.

In fact the war was viewed as simply an irritating distraction for the British. They had accomplished their aim of defending British North America (Canada), then with the deteriorating European situation brought the war to a close to focus on interests elsewhere. Europe took priority.

Also, Napoleon became 'Master of Europe' after crushing the Prussians at the battle of Austerlitz. Napoleon was a real threat to the Sovereignty of Great Britain at this time. However, his disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812 was the beginning of the end for him.
