i live in toronto, it has the most diversity out of any other place in canada yes. it also makes the most money for the province and is the most well known and in my personal opinion best place in canada to live.
he is a friend from childhood and anyone that has something bad to say about him has know idea what it is to be Canadian first, and to grow up dreaming to play in the NHL.. we did and he made it, can you say the same. my friend is the skating coach for the blue and white....cheers to you brothers forever!
i dont like either starts.... ive always been taught to have one foot in front of the other.... this creates more momentum for the first quick stride. They are somewhat in a "V" start, heels are in toes out, but its like 100meter runners..... they dont start with thier feet side by side.
Who teaches the V start the way you explain? The proper V start is to stay low, fall forward - not stand straight up and on your tippy toes. Your "neutral" start is the V start.
Ummm...the point of the V-Start is to teach kids to put power down to the ice. I have never seen a guy (or girl) pop up and "tippy toe" out of a V-Start like Adam did. Note that at 2:20 during the "neutral takeoff" his skates still formed a V - the only difference is what happened afterward and not exaggerating the hockey stance. I'm not saying...I'm just saying.
@haloplaya382429 Per capita, Toronto probably is the "Black part of Canada." Does it matter? This video is about power skating, not Canadian demographics.
Here is the reality............. You all can say and do as you feel!!!! But when it comes down to it Graeme is in the NHL. The reason being is because his methods work and NHL Coaches and executive Staff know that his formula helps their players and gets them in the NHL i.e. (Doug Murray). If you want to keep teaching the out dated Techniques then you will always be a youth level skating coach at best. Keep hockey fun and keep on developing the players.
As you show he will have to stand up tall to explode but in reality he could stay low with his north south arm swing and still be able to have an explosive start not using the "v start" but more specifically a faster version of the forward stride such as shifting gears in a car.
I am a skating coach in the ottawa area that works with approx. 2000 players in the area throughout each winter. I do see where your philosophy gets, however if Adam your skater is int he v start he may still bend his knees and ankles down to the powerful stance it takes to be a great skater. (cont below)
Can you tell me the difference between the V start and the 'neutral postion' one???? Whats the difference between the first 3 inches of your blade and being on your toes??
The difference is understanding when any technique you're being taught is going to be used. The "V" start, I am assuming is used when you are at a dead stop and in the game of hockey we may only be stationary in possible two situations...on the bench or at a face off. Try doing the "v" start on your toes when trying to get to a loose puck, there will be contact from the opposite player and the neutral start allows you to maintain an athletic postion and power through opponents.
check out the 2009 NHL fastest skater competition here on you tube. at the 45 second mark Zach Parise uses the neutral start. watch the rest of the participants and you'll see not one "v" start as it is taught by the leading skating "experts". I have spent my whole career both as player and now coach and have yet to see a player use the "v" start where they get up on their toes.
Hockey Skating, big difference. Power skating is a term derived from the figure skating world. Our game has changed dramtically since the early days of "power skating" and we have had to change the way we teach hockey player's to skate, we have different requirements placed on us which make it necessary for us to have our own techniques and tactics. For example and figure skater or speed skater never have to execute a "cut back " technique but hockey skaters/players do.
uh, did he say the balls of your feet
