  • My Grandfather was a Navy Seabee in the South Pacific during WWII and he used to sing this version to me( Along with Song of the Seabees) as a lullaby when I was a baby..until my Grandma yelled at him lol

  • My grandmother use to go around the house singing, "Bell bottom trousers, a coat of navy blue, I love a sailor boy and he loves me too." Of course my grandfather was in the Navy during WWII. She thought he was the best thing since sliced bread.

  • @bridgetjh I want to find the clean version they played at my school for the dance unit. I can't find it. anywhere. I do not mean the one with the "little girl next door to me, liked a boy, he was only three".

  • my grandfather was at the Bikini Atoll Bomb Tests in the Navy. Various members of my family were Navy men

  • Four years and three months on active duty in The Navy, looking back, were the best years of my life. No regrets. Would do it again.

  • @bimarton 5 years in the Army for me, 2 tours in Iraq and I have the exact same sentiment.

  • Not one dislike! This is the greatest song every written!

  • @zendragondrew you're right 25k have listened and not one dislike...it's amazing!

  • I L O V E this. Oscar Brand is great.

  • Good God, during my stepfather's Cheif Initiation, his superiors made him memorize this song and sing it to them exactly like Salty Dick sung it. He still sings it when he's drunk sometimes!

  • Is tars a slang term for sailors?

  • gee you never see recruitment posters like 0:52 anymore

  • @legoeasycompany Damn shame isn't it?

  • My grandmother used to sing the chorus of this song...always wondered about it. My grandad was in the Navy, served in WWI, retired & was recalled for WWII.

  • I was in The Coast Guard when we looked like Sailors.

  • Well, it's fine to like any version you choose, and I happen to like Oscar Brand. However, it's very misleading to show the cover of the sheet music for the "clean" version, which was written by Moe Jaffe, my father. He adapted this risqué version, and his version became a big hit in 1943.

  • LMAO...this is the version I heard years ago sang by my Granny... she was a case and half and is missed so dearly... Thanks... brought a smile to my face... and long forgotten memories.

  • i've been trying to find a clean copy and i am not having any luck

  • Go to Amazon MP3 downloads and search on Bell Bottom Trousers, there are a few versions there.

  • I have a clean version on my ipod. From the album "songs of the US armed forces"

  • try google

  • who wants the clean version this kicks

  • @shiznit75 I don't think Oscar Brand sang clean songs

  • @shiznit75 this is the clean version of this song

  • @shiznit75 That's probably because by the nature of the song, there is no clean version. This is an old sea shanty, and most of them were quite ribald.

  • @shiznit75

    because its an old song

they couldnt record songs in HQ ;)

  • @shiznit75 Why on earth would you want a clean copy of this song?

  • Thanks for this. Oscar Brand is great.

  • Fantastic! My Dad was a WWII era sailor and used to sing a shortened version of this song. Thanks for posting this.

  • Cool video, loved the white bell-bottoms

  • I have this album, Bawdy Sea Shantys. Mine skips on the first verse of this song at "to keep her from all harm" I wish someone would remaster this album and the other Oscar Brand albums so I could have them on CD.
