I'm glad they got rid of base building. Base building has been an over-used game mechanic for too long. Building buildings is a waste of time and there's little strategy in it. Just give me my units and stop letting people amass hordes of units. It's all about how you use what you're given. I really don't get why people like the tired, stale formula of base building. THAT shit is boring to me. Man up buttercup and play this and maybe Total War/Company of Heroes/Men of War too. Fuckin' kids.

I have a little question, I got this game + the Chaos marines about 6-10 months ago. I must say that I was expencting something like Company of heroes's style of gameplay. but I see this below it, I dont see the fun in multiplayer, I mean I dont really understand the fun, I really like the style. I mean you start with your champ and with a base, but nothing else you dont build or anything like that you just spawn fighters\warriors etc. can you tell me what do you like about the game,so I try too

@7graywolf7 they're saying the next one is supposed to be a way bigger scale, it might be a little more like that, but it's kinda supposed to be a lot of customization too, they haven't given much info but the basics are sounding good, and I'm def with you do like the Sabbat Worlds Crusade kinda deal (sorry if you haven't read the Gaunts Ghosts books and you don't know what that is haha)

ok i just played a match lost by like 20 points but it was AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME little lag i had tyranids against the orks and everything we had was thrown onto the battlefield no compromise in the gamne but just a proper battle. i´m wondering how i could upload the 25min. head to head battle since it was like 2 carnifex fully upgraded everything? any help?

I hoped to see extensive base-building and a much higher unit cap. In DoW 2 you had like 4! units and you was maxed out. Made the game-play feel extremely dull. The campaign just felt repetitive. If there is no base-building then you have to turn this into some kind of total war game with actual battles instead of the extremely mind-boggling tiny microscopic skirmishes we did in dow 2. I don't even see dow 2 as an RTS game, it feels more like a third person shooter. DOW1 is still superior.
@ArmenSur That's your opinion. I honestly liked both of them, even though I agree, they are pretty different. I'm honestly a huge Warhammer 40k fan, so any decent game with the 40k universe is fun for me. Plus, i'm quite honestly more about action than I am strategy.
@trippalhealicks I'm also a huge fan of 40K, I've read like 50 novels, some magazines, different codex and even comics. I do admit that I did play DOW 2 also, and that's just because it's 40K. The only + i give this game is the voice actors, I think they made a great job with that. Hope you guys get the upcoming space marine game, there you'll probably get some sick 40K action, Xenos and Heretic Traitors. For the Emperor Brothers!

@SynoDesign you know there are big wars in 40K...right? Sometimes 50 different space marine chapters show up to participate in a single war. The Orks, The Necrons, The Tyranids, Imperial Guard, The Tau and The forces of Chaos are all shown to amass huge armies in the lore.
If you actually can't see how down-scaled this is and actually think that this is the way to show how war is waged in 40K then we have nothing further to discuss.

@LordCHull Honestly, I found the linear campaign in the first DoW to be the best. The meta-map system really killed immersiveness and story-telling for me.
@RabbitLitvyak Because this is a game based more on micro management. You don't have a ton of unit, like in Starcraft. So, you have fewer units and your units last longer, but they require more interaction.

If you loved the first one, don't even consider playing the second. It's way dumbed down, made way simplier, and absolutely boring. Just trust me. Stick to DOW 1 it's way better.
There are appart from Shogun / Civ 5 / starcraft 2, NO good rts since some years i'm affraid. Supcom 2 is decent, Dow 2 is decent too - yet not as good as the first.

I frankly don't miss base-building (don't hate it either) but the campaign seemed too theme park and wooden. Not smart like Company of Heroes, that everyone has been comparing it to. @RemovdSande11 Forget building, get into the action faster, more realistic to the tabletop game really. On the tabletop, you don't have to build, set up armies, advance, and then annihilate your enemies.
@RemovdSande11 You might a well play Starcraft 2. I think it makes sense that the ideal Warhammer 40k game should be played in this manner. It plays closer to the tabletop game. Additionally, DoW 2 has a heavier micro gameplay than DoW 1.

How exactly does the Dawn of War 2 unit generation work? As in, Is there a limit to how many units you can have? How do you win? Capture points or destroy base? Is there a limit to how many units you can make before you just run out or something?
@INeedADarnName well yes there´s a limit. you have 100 population and each unit or squad has it´s own pop cost. For example a space marine squad has 6 pop cap and a dreadnought 15 (i have the game but im just guessing). You can choose how to win, it's both possible.
@Kremor88 It really depends, if your not into base building and a game based on how you use your units than on how many you have, DoW2 is a better choice, but if you like base building and huge masses of armies throwing themselves at eachother StarCraft II is better

@HITMAN232008 Hmm, resolution too high? Weird, typically, the higher resolution the better. If it claims it's too high, it's likely means that too much of your CPU is going to running the resolution and can't keep up with everything else.
But since you have everything on Low setting, I have no clue on how to help you. Although, you can try using the Task Manager to change the way your computer treats the game. Such as increasing or decreasing the games CPU usage. That might help.
Plan on buying this game. But I hear it sucks crap. The graphics are AWESOME though.... I have dark crusade, I LOVE IT, so is this game anything like dark crusade?

Forget the "spam unreal ammount of units to overrun the enemy" tactic. This game is based on territorial control with fewer units. Each unit is specialized and useful in a particular situation. You wont trow away your troops because a single unit can easely be the win or losing factor in each engagement.There is no rush tactic here.Only real strategy

@TheRoogarooga also consider that single and multi player game are very different. Single is a mix of RTS and RPG elements. You will improve your troops, equip the heroes and adjust your tactics around what your squads can or cant do
multiplayer is closer to the multiplayer matchs we know, but with many differences. No base building, no spam-fest tactics. More territorial control using covers and the right squad at the right moment against the right enemy
Can any 1 help me? i've looked at the requirements for the game on steam and my computer has everything thing better than whats required to play this game but still when i try to play it all i get is black screen when i run it, or is this a compatabillity issue with windows 7?

@MOARepicLULZ because it says the min spec but the funny thing about this game is that it tells you not to use wireless while playing try updating ur drivers and then try it
@MOARepicLULZ change the audio settings down to the bare minimum. for some reason the way the audio (voices played simultaneously etc) has been integrated with the rest of the engine it makes pcs run like shit. my pc runs this at maximum without breaking a sweat, but goes to a crawl if the audio shit is put anything above Low

@Karskin009 I don't see how StarCraft II was half-assed. Sure, the game mechanics were virtually the same, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Also, the story in StarCraft II is absolutely amazing. Especially the pre-rendered cut scenes. It's probably my favorite RTS game. Although I'm not a hardcore RTS gamer, so that may be why.

the ai in this game seems abit dumb, they hide on the wrongs side of an obstacle feks. i cant select one fighter of a group to move him out of harm. if its possible pls tell me how i do this
@Despotes518 I play both games, and no, dow 2 is not like dota. Dota is a game where you usually only have to take care of 1 character, your hero (with a few exceptions such as syllabear). Dow 2 is a real rts, and you need good micro'ing if you want to win. However, your hero can level up just as your hero in dota can, and you can buy up to 3 pieces of wargear for him.
they will. the first one took the orriginal game and 3 expansion packs to add all of those races. im also hopeing that Tau are in the next Xpack, theyre my favorite race too.

@RemovdSande11 Forget building, get into the action faster, more realistic to the tabletop game really. On the tabletop, you don't have to build, set up armies, advance, and then annihilate your enemies.

@RemovdSande11 You might a well play Starcraft 2. I think it makes sense that the ideal Warhammer 40k game should be played in this manner. It plays closer to the tabletop game. Additionally, DoW 2 has a heavier micro gameplay than DoW 1.

How exactly does the Dawn of War 2 unit generation work? As in, Is there a limit to how many units you can have? How do you win? Capture points or destroy base? Is there a limit to how many units you can make before you just run out or something?

@INeedADarnName well yes there´s a limit. you have 100 population and each unit or squad has it´s own pop cost. For example a space marine squad has 6 pop cap and a dreadnought 15 (i have the game but im just guessing). You can choose how to win, it's both possible.

@Kremor88 It really depends, if your not into base building and a game based on how you use your units than on how many you have, DoW2 is a better choice, but if you like base building and huge masses of armies throwing themselves at eachother StarCraft II is better

@HITMAN232008 Hmm, resolution too high? Weird, typically, the higher resolution the better. If it claims it's too high, it's likely means that too much of your CPU is going to running the resolution and can't keep up with everything else.
But since you have everything on Low setting, I have no clue on how to help you. Although, you can try using the Task Manager to change the way your computer treats the game. Such as increasing or decreasing the games CPU usage. That might help.

no overclocking, no modded drivers, just up to date.

@TheRoogarooga nope, its completely different. oh and those saying this game sucks, are morons. It highly needs strategy to win it's games(even though i suck at it in the moment but hey i bought it a week ago and I'm managing XD) BUT the campaign is highly concentrated on the blood ravens, so no other campaigns other than bood ravens :[ in other words, its worth the pay for the multiplayer( I payed 150$ in my country's currency, totally worth it.)

Forget the "spam unreal ammount of units to overrun the enemy" tactic. This game is based on territorial control with fewer units. Each unit is specialized and useful in a particular situation. You wont trow away your troops because a single unit can easely be the win or losing factor in each engagement.There is no rush tactic here.Only real strategy

@TheRoogarooga also consider that single and multi player game are very different. Single is a mix of RTS and RPG elements. You will improve your troops, equip the heroes and adjust your tactics around what your squads can or cant do
multiplayer is closer to the multiplayer matchs we know, but with many differences. No base building, no spam-fest tactics. More territorial control using covers and the right squad at the right moment against the right enemy

I like the way cover is dynamic, like you don;t have to click them in and out of cover.
Ive never played this as my PC can't run good games, and I only really play Xbox - which has Halo wars -_-

@BMWchickmagnet because i suck at this game and like the first one i would see what type of strategys the computers use on the hardest difficulty. Also i have a crazy computer so i could watch a crazy fight between all of them and it wouldent slow down. Its fun to watch sue me.

@MOARepicLULZ change the audio settings down to the bare minimum. for some reason the way the audio (voices played simultaneously etc) has been integrated with the rest of the engine it makes pcs run like shit. my pc runs this at maximum without breaking a sweat, but goes to a crawl if the audio shit is put anything above Low

@Karskin009 I don't see how StarCraft II was half-assed. Sure, the game mechanics were virtually the same, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Also, the story in StarCraft II is absolutely amazing. Especially the pre-rendered cut scenes. It's probably my favorite RTS game. Although I'm not a hardcore RTS gamer, so that may be why.

@Despotes518 I play both games, and no, dow 2 is not like dota. Dota is a game where you usually only have to take care of 1 character, your hero (with a few exceptions such as syllabear). Dow 2 is a real rts, and you need good micro'ing if you want to win. However, your hero can level up just as your hero in dota can, and you can buy up to 3 pieces of wargear for him.
