Steve Davis has been doing exhibition matches since the early 80s, he has been a fantastic promoter of snooker. Its good to see snooker stars give a bit back to grass roots levels. Would you see a permiership footballer doing this? No chance, unless there was loads of publicity and press involved!!

Misconceptions about Steve Davis...1: Boring...not true and has never been true. He's one of the funniest and wittiest players of all time. 2: stuffy...again untrue. He's a very relaxed chilled out sort of guy.

3: Methodical..perhaps true. He plays the game of snooker as it should be played. It's about outwitting your opponent. It isn't about potting as many balls as you can in as few minutes. Never has been.

I'm not sure if you're replying to my earlier comment, Idisapprove, but if so I was being ironic - I've always been a fan of Davis, even when he was at the height of his game and 'coldfish', amongst others, was a widespread (mis)conception of the man. His record speaks for itself.

From what I remember, in the 80s he definately did come across as rather cold and stuffy 'specially next to guys like Higgins or White. Over the last 10 yrs, he really loosened up and showed who he really was all along; a happy, go lucky, nice guy.

I never thought he was, it was just that the media decided to present him as boring, esp Spitting Image with their Steve 'interesting' Davis. The trouble is, if people see it on the telle they the think it's true.

You guys from Britain should promote Snooker more. Here in the U.S, hardly anyone plays it and that's a shame. Heck, I'd pay to go watch any of todays Snooker stars shoot, and I don't mean on a pool table.

Place here in town had 2 Brunswick 9 foot tables...All the guys ( me included ) who thought they were hot shit on a 5 foot bar regular pool table sure got a rude awakening on those long ass tables and the rounded pocket corners.. It was a great lesson in...touch..baby

@lemonite1 Unfortunately it's all about attention span.( Before any offence is taken I'm only talking sports)Same with football or soccer as you know it. It seems to be with you guys something(exciting) HAS to happen every minute or so in sports. Here's the paradox - you guys love your stats though - but as I say watching sports, things have to happen quickly.

@lemonite1 mate u do not know the class and flair of snooker. it is an aritocratic game and u american wagabonds do not have ettiquates to play it. so better play the useless kinda american games like american football or baseball or pool. u can not match the brions(ireland. scotland wales and england combined) in the real games like footbaal rugby or snooker to better keep yer bloody american mouth shut which always yells aparthead.
