Back when Hendrix was all I was listening to, I decided that since he was dead and no more music was coming out...the best thing to do was listen to all his music backwards. It was great...like hearing all new material from him...sounded equally good in reverse. Try listening to "Captain Coconut" backwards from the Crash Landing album.

@imkg09 You don't have to know all that. Here's how I think Jimi did it:

He was overdubbing the solo part and after recording it, he decided to play it in reverse along the record. He loved the result so he kept it that way.

That's how i did it in my 'New unfinished song' and it sounded fine. Not as good as the Master himself though, obviously :p.

Wow.. I heard the solo reversed a zillion times since the old days in the 70's when I would spin the lp backwards, but I never got around to listening to the very begining of the song, and how it's a little outro reversed, and how all of those "thwack"s, or muted (or "x") notes were reversed also (just like the ones I just mentioned that start the song, or end it here in this backwards version).
