Hi there, one question: what video card you used to build your PC? I bought about everything you posted on your site to build this computer, I am just missing the EGA.... Please reply, will really appreciate...
Whats the name of the song? and what language is it in? Nice setup by the way.. I'm putting together my lab this month and I've been eyeballing the 20 U Skeletek Rack too..
I'm using four regular usb-to-console (aka usb-to-rs232) adapters. + a program called ser2net (linux only). This program provides a way for a user to connect from a network connection to a serial port. So you configure ser2net the way that when you telnet localhost 2001 it redirects you to a console adapter connected to usb0, telnet localhost 2002 redirects you to a console adapter connected to usb1 etc.
ANA-62044 is a legacy card, I'm not a linux expert, but usually it installs the NIC automatically. If you have a chance try it on 32 bit Ubuntu but it should work on 64 bit OS. Try to do some research on linux forums regarding that card.
Hey Ned, I finally managed to build my rack. What I have is Intel 2500 CPU Sandy Bridge and Intel BOXDH67CL mobo. I also bought the ANA-62044. My OS is Ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop.
My problem is when I execute ifconfig -a, I don't see the other 4 interfaces. The only thing that I have are interface lo and eth0.
Cool - so is it possible to run physical routers connect them to the switch or via pc ? like a higher end 2800 with voice ? and also i have a 1unit rack with dual iethernet assuming it wont work ? connecting 4 switches ? any expansions ?
This is pretty much what I did... GNS3 on a desktop with 3 quad-port Intel NICs connected to 4 X Cisco 3550s. Works very well and the NICS were only about $75 each on ebay. Good luck on your CCIE training.
Where are the routers? There is more to CCNA than switches let alone the CCIE. I love the concept, in fact I have looked a rack similar to this in the past for my home lab. But for added complexity some routers would be an excellent addition to the rack setup.
Ahem, if you didn't notice the description. "Building my own CCIE rack using dynamips and real equipment. " That means he will use gns3/dynamips with a few quad NIC's to run the switches into the PC. Gns3/dynamips will handle the routing, and then the switches will handle the switching.
I personally HATE gns3/dynamips - it's somewhat unreliable but if you can deal with it, it can get you a long way.
I've been using my rack (dynamips + 4 switches) for over 5 months from now, I haven't had any issues with the dynamips, I had some issues with quad NICs (overheating , they're next to the videocard), but it's another story.
As to me, Dynamips rocks, it's such a powerful tool, you just need to configure it right. (and don't forget that you should run it on Linux)
i got the 16U one since it was only $10 more.

Hi, how do you setup your console connections, I am using Windows 7 but I have a loaded PC.

The videocard I was using is VGA XFX|PVT86SYHLG 8400GS R but it was a long time ago, I'm pretty sure there is something better and cheaper

Howdy.
What card are you using for console access? Never seen anything like it before.

It's 12 U rack, it was about $130 shipped. It's a really good quality rack.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Oh is that the only cisco rack you have?
is 12U rack enough to hold all the equipment for CCIE or CCNP?
123456iambelial 2 years ago
How many U's is that rack?
How much is it?
Thanks
