  • Mutya ka Baleling sa katahum (you’re like a jewel, Leleng, in beauty)

Timgas pa sa puti nga baybayon (brighter than a white sand beach)

Sa kasingkasing ka panganduyon (my heart will yearn for you)

Perlas ka nga angay gyud angkonon (you’re a pearl I’d like to own)

i have a very shallow background of bisaya dialect so this is out of nothing but my own understanding. not a very accurate translation. sorry...

  • @bluspy by the way leleng is the name of the girl. but because of the structure of the language, people misunderstood it as "baleleng". the "ba" is used in the dialect to end a question. it's similar to tagalog. "aalis ka ba?" it's not part of the name.

  • waw.. astig!!! baleleng is the name of the girl right. it's a love song.. some words are quite close to hiligaynon so i can make them out. but the rest, is deep rooted bisaya... i don't understand the words. but the song sure is a romantic love song. aahah... there is a tagalog version of this song which is a lot more understandable for most of us... but nothing beats this vid.. eheheh

  • thanks dude, for my native song.

  • mann, you're awesome. Some Filipinos dare not sing this!. Good job!

  • good job. you da best.

  • nice video.. MABUHAY KA..

  • So that the people will know: Tausug is the original version of this song.... Max Surban only Cover this song from the Tausug in Basilan Philippines... I hope it helps!

  • five stars buddy ...mabuhay ka thank you for embracing our culture

  • baleleng that is one my husband favorite visayan song.

  • *****, your husband is great mam, i wish he would sing more bisaya songs, i would probably make it a collection...

  • baleleng is a visaya love song about a girl(baleleng) who can not be with her boy, but is sung in old deep visaya alot of young filipino do not understand to get the total story of the song you must ask a older visaya speaking lolo or lola but just listening to the song you can get the feeling of the song i think a little sad but still a nice song

  • @shailee79 I first heard this native song from the Tausugs when I was assigned in Sulu in early 70's and this became the most sung song by the soldiers in their happy gatherings. I believe those soldiers (me, included) who were lucky enough to get back home took this song with them and translated it into their own dialect like visayan, tagalog, ilocano, etc.

  • ano po ba ibig sabihin ng "BALELENG"???somebody pls tell me..thank you po in advance!!!!

  • baleleng is a name of a woman

it says beleleng u r like a precious stone

    like a beautiful shining pearl

like a star in the skys, like a gold thats shines

and I am just a nobody u are like the heavens that cannot be reach and and I`am earth

and I love u forever without bounds and conditions even we are so different from each other

and if I will be lost forever in my life my heart will always be waitting for u because I love truly and the song goes all over again

  • in bisaya its a little bit different I`ll give u only the naration ok cause the song isvery deep bisaya ok

  • @TheRomulusas,pangalan pala ng babae ang meaning ng baleleng!thank you po^_^ ...god bless

  • thats a very old biayan song and very nice song too

  • u are a precious stone that cannot be reach and a one and a million in a blue moon more refine than the white sand beaches in the shore everyones heart will be longing for u caz u are a oearl that should be owned if I loose u my heart will wait for u in the deepest ocean with full of tears, bankaw bunal here is just like an expression

  • @TheRomulusas thankyou for that so difficult for me to translate maybe if i was born filipino i could ,maybe one day i will be able to but i study tagalog at the moment as i have a house near manila but i am still interested in all the languages of the philippines

  • I gave him 5 star! Very nice voice and well done!

  • maybe you could take a look at my latest effort kung sakaling and i think you will see a big change as i get better even i dont like these old recordings much but hay there are not many white guys singing any filipino songs so i will leave them here till i re record them ,i just want to encourage others to try the languages of the philippines

  • maybe you can re-record it now that you have stayed here in the Philippines for sometime. It is visayan and the elocution in the different visayan dialects is much the same as the Pilipino language. I admire you because I am a Filipino but i can't even say a single visayan word much less understand it. Mabuhay ka!!!!

  • i love it...ur very good

  • taliwa ning lawod sa mga luha...di mo ba sya kino correct sa words syllabication...mabilis ang pag bigkas ng words...this is one of the most well-loved songs in the Visayas, I for one

  • Brilliant mate...

  • hahah.. yeap.. tausug song originally.. tawitawian song..

  • ga tuo mo nga amerkano na siya! oging kana oy nga taga siquijor. ilad mo no?

  • im english hindi emericano the english have more respect for the filipino culture we dont want to rule you or take over your country just come and share time with you ha ha and sing good and bad karaoke

  • ang galing, you're bloody good. tama ba? Shailee salute ako sayo. Philippine History should be re-written so that Filipinos will be more nationalist, like Japanese, English, French and other advance countries.

  • This is my 3 month old son's favorite bedtime song... yes the original is in "tausog" i believe. Made famous by the Visayans.. Then Tagalog. But I wish i can hear the "tausog" version... more exotic..

  • @zaldee78: There are quite a few Samal, Bajau and Tausug folk ballads similar to (the original) Baleleng on youtube. Here's the link for one called 'Bujang Manis', although the user titled it as 'Baleleng': /watch?v=WTY70p2kxhM

it has a very different sound to other Filipino folk music.. dare I say "exotic" lol :)

  • more!.....more!.....more! PRACTICE!!!

  • o.k. lang yun, di naman to contest.

  • it brings back old memory. i love seeing an american singing tagalog/visaya'n song. very nice

  • americano hindi ako english hahaha

  • hehe, Baleleng is a great song. I always used to hear this being played when I was younger by relatives.. good Karaoke!

The song originates from the Tausug people of the Sulu archipelago and was made famous in the Visayas by Max Surban.

  • haaa baleleng si dodong well done

  • wow nice ha...

  • wow nice!!!

  • my mum described baleleng as the beautiful maiden in the seashore as what the song describe...is she right? thanks for singing this song glad you like it as the song originally is diallect used in near our place

  • yes i understand it as as the same but she can not be with her loved one

  • you look like tom hanks

  • oh ok well i will try not to get stuck on a island haha

  • Proud 2 Be Pinoy.....And Proud 2 Be One

  • Baleleng is a rare specie of tuna (yop, the heathy fish!). For the baleleng which hard tro find, the song described (as I translated): 'like a pearling that is hard to get'.

Nice job singing, this Tausug folk song.

  • fuck to us many pinoys who could not even know some of our songs while this foreigner sings them by heart. Bro..thanks for singing this fo us.

  • to shailee79,if i'm not wrong, baleleng is a name of a girl (who's rich according to the song)and a man who really loves her so much, but they are separated by differences. i 'm so glad that foreigner like him find time to, you know, listening and singing that song, it is very beautiful song, full of emotions.

  • You rock, man! The way it looks like you even memorized the song.
