  • This has always been a vicious, slick track.

  • Words can't desrcibe how good this music makes me feel. Just wish I was there to witness it for real !

  • Man the cats that don't feel this groove better check their pulse! They

got to be dead and unable to rock!! ..tsk! tsk!...a moment of silence.

    Anybody got a tissue?

  • Ron, Robert and Funky George everybody get down

  • Jazz Funk at it's finest !!! not sure why they need 2 drummers though..?

  • @ScottMarquis

Cause there Kool and the Gang

  • Now that's a fabulous horn section!! Beautiful, just beautiful!!

  • The awesome power of horns clearly demonstrating utter superiority. Wow! Thank you for posting this incredible video!!! Kudos!

  • long way from when i first saw them live in '72, but still kickin' it

  • Kool and the gang is old school but it's still on hit. That's the best kind of sounds to hear!!!

  • Great video, thanks for posting it.

    Jessie

  • I don't remember EWF even going here!

  • uff! que maravilla de presentacion

  • never gets old... awesome! (from San Fran)

  • Totally kick ass!

  • the driving-est song these guys ever did, this number could rock out a disco back in the day -- SHAZAM!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Music, REAL music! I'll take some Kool and the Gang over the new crap any day!

  • Kool and the Gang kicked Ass, I still rock this joint in my car (Full Blast) till my windows shake. I was 13 when this came out and I still have the Long Version of Open Sesame. Long Live our Greats, Kool and the Gang, and Earth Wind nd Fire.

  • Could somebody upload "Ladies night" from this concert? It´s been removed and I can´t find it!

  • OMG what a good video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These guys are so gooooooooooooood :D

So fucking crazy beats ! :D

  • what was the title of the LP this was released on and what year.???

  • @sp4armyguy1 - The LP was also called Open Sesame and it was released in 1976. Not yet reissued domestically on CD but there's an import version coming out 5/3/11.

  • @drsloan Thanks for the heads-up. Kool & The Gang is one of my favorite groups. I remember them when I was in high school performing at some of the local venues.

  • YES!!!

  • dO YOU REMEMBER?????

  • Semplicemente fantastici!!!

    love fnk

  • This used to be my SHIT when I was little.. I still crank it now. And people think I'm crazy cause I say Kool and the Gang is one of my ALL time favorite bands...

  • @Limeade04 K&TG was one of my all time faves as well. Good dance music.!!!!

  • Ain't nothin' like 70's funk y'all!!!! I was 15/16 years old when this masterpiece came out. I feel so blessed to have been in my teens when funk was going strong. :-)

  • the gang is firing on all cylinders My high school math teacher would play kool and the gang during test to relax us.

  • @soulburst Then your math teacher ROCKED.

  • Nothing kicks ass like 70's funk!!!

  • Great live version. The brass section is no joke...

  • jazz & funk hall of fame!!!! this track is fantastic!!!

  • I just gained a whole new appreciation for this song

  • Real music!

  • This is stunning, for something live to sound as good as the original single, if not better, I can't stop playing it :-))))

  • But why Robert Kool Bell stay in second line? Is he the band leader or not? I think he have to be a frontman, in pole position... Right?

  • @jack60r 'Kool' Bell always played a little back if not even with the front. Being that the horn section drives this tune, it'd be a sin not to put them out front.

  • @ceviche666 Many Thanks 4 answer! I see, but if I were Kool I stay in first line, 'cause I'm the # 1!!!!

  • Lovng some Kool and the Gang .FUNK !

  • where's J.T.at (the lead singer)

  • If you get the chance listen to their earlier work before they got too commercial, raw uncut funk!

  • So glad this was part of my disco era!

  • I hate it, terrible

  • @Nightwithe ****Tosses eggs at Nightwithe**** How dare you disagree with the majority here. :P

  • @Nightwithe are you deaf or what?

  • These guys are baaaaaadddddddd with horns.

  • great stuff here....One of the best SNF tracks

  • Now This is up......Humpin....

  • those guys are some real players!! I always dug this tune.

  • james taylor ?????

  • megaultrasuperfunk !!!

  • Go Gang Go One of the tightest bands in the biz. Glad 2 b born in that era.

  • found this music in world of roguecraft episode 2

    very cool

  • That's Robert 'Kool' Bell on the bass in the red. Awesome!

  • @ooarrlatvian He's in the white behind the horn section.

  • damn fine brass section - Kool & Gang always were top quality

  • S. N .F great track although this live version is much greater

  • MUSICIANSHIP!

That's why these 50+ year old brothers, along with the original Earth Wind and Fire members, together or not doing their own thing are still eating, paying the mortgage and maybe even driving a "Kaddilick" or two! Props and Respect to Newark, New Jersey for producing these 'scientist of sound' who by the 'sound' of things are still 'mathematically putting it down'!

  • Comment removed

  • This is classic. Kool plays the bass. Saw them play this song in Miami in the 70's without the extra horns and it sounded almost the same. Just as good. 55 year old school lova.

  • Kool + Earth W&F, the best funk ever!!!!

  • u forgot johnny guitar watson...

  • @Terranova911RS U right! I loved so much JGW, but i think his sound is different, another category...RIP. However: JGW, EW&F, KOOL... GREEEEEEEEEAT!

  • yea, agreed :-)

  • Damn, two drummers!

  • One of them is the original,

    George "Funky" Brown

    Great video!

  • Great stuff you know. :)

  • esse é o video pra noite de sexta e sabado.valeu.

  • That was my absolutely funky favorite :-D wahooo !!

  • love this performance quality of the video excellent

  • Ronald Bell (sax) VC É DEMAIS SHOW CARA SOU SEU FÃ AQUI DO BRASIL..............

  • Gotta love it !

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm a big fan of Ronald Bell (sax); the man behind many of their tunes, old and new. As a sax player, I appreciate his raw tone, his signature altissimo "A," and the Coltrane influence in his solos. Check out his solo on this clip: simple and soulful. The horns are tight!

  • CLIMB ABOARD MY MAGIC CARPET

  • Earth Wind & Fire Phoenix Horns and this horn section? Hmmm....not really a fair comparison but give props where it's due. Big credit to Brother Robert "Kool" Bell for auditioning and hiring brothers equally as tight as days gone by! Same goes for Brother Maurice White and the present EWF horn section; not quite Tower of Power, Phoenix Horns or the old Chicago horn section but this is wonderful to see and hear anyway. Salaam!

  • I could join this band for the rest of my life.

    2 drum kits.

    3 guitars.

A brass section to die for.

    What could anybody else want?

  • Earth wind and fire??? ;D

  • Great Shout!!!!

EWF are actually my Favourite band in my life so far. Yes I could join them as well!

  • yeahhhhhhhhhh buddy

  • Unbelievable!

  • Wesley Snipes on Trumpet???!!!....HA HA HA What a band man!. SHAZAM!!!!

  • Salaam! I'm overjoyed to see the younger brothers demonstrate musicianship. It's a joy to see that we still produce actual musicians rather than persons 'skilled' in manipulating drum machines, TASCAM boards, and concerts where all the persons on stage have caught publicized 'cases'. I say a return to musicianship and away with fake groups like Day 26 and the lot of them! Shazzam!

  • I agree. The synthesized crap a lot of people call music these days NEVER sounds as fresh, skilled, or flat out good as a band like this actually playing any instrument no matter what the genre is. Half the "musicians" these days probably have no idea instruments can produce sounds like this without being connected to a computer or midi device.

And yes I know there is a synth involved, but it's minor and in the background, not 90% of the sound being produced.

  • Synth is great but not overkill.

  • HORNS!!

    This is hot.

Liked them when they were doing this kind of stuff, not "Ladies' Night" - their "Hollywood Swinging" and "Summer Madness" days.

    Check it out.

  • One of the greatest songs ever

  • Can anybody name a Black band that came out in the last 10 years

    Like the Ohio Players.Kool &the Gang,Slave, BT Express,Midnight Star,Earth, Wind & Fire,Gap Band,Lakeside,Isley Brothers,Brother Johnson,Chic,Change,New Birth ,L.T.D.,Commodores,Brainstorm, Ready for the World,Mandrill

it's going to be real hard

Not singing groups BANDs that sing

Don't hurt yourself thinking about i

  • NO!

  • great point!!..only two i can think of are joe public and they lasted not even a minute...amd mint condition who are still doin' it!!

  • Alot of people said The Roots going to check them out

  • This is the sweetest brass you will ever hear in any song....toooo sweeet. One of my childhood favourites from Kool & the Gang. Still sounding fresh.

  • i love this song!

    where i can found it?

  • It's on their self titled album "Open Sesame" that was recorded in 1976. I have it on the remastered CD. Parts 1 and 2 were made and a extended 12' disco version.

I grew up listening to Kool & the Gang. Hasn't been another band like them to come along outside of EWF and the Ohio Players that sound exactly like their records when you see them in concert. Kool & the Gangs entire band are excellent musicians. No computerized sound here, like what you get from the music being played today.

  • excellent

  • "They are the genies of sound, everybody get down. HUUH!!!"

Man, this was a wind instrument extravaganza. I just loved every moment of this:)

  • THE HORNS FOREVER KICK ASSSSS!1

  • @tubagee...Like Yoda woulkd say....ASS KICKING FOREVER HORNS"!!!

  • @afrosensuous Yoda would say ''Funk, or Funk not, there is no try''

  • get on your camel and ride!!!!

  • This song is from 1976

  • man to bad i was born in the '90s

  • Since about 1967, they been doin' what they do!!! Quincy Jones went on and on about the horn arrangement for this tune. That in itself is one of the greatest compliments any real musician could get!!!!! Lon live Koll and the motherf---ing Gang!!!!

  • Great AND commercial! I only they could have stopped here - pop enough for mainstream but still funky!

Why did thy have to go on to produce crap like "Joanna", "Ladies Night" etc.

  • Because they had to survive the '80 and they did it well ! Most funk bands were fading during those years while K&TG was running through the '90. other bands like Earth Wind& Fire didn't do well in the '80 (exept live shows). in the early '90 the funk came alive again and lots of bands revived themselfs since.

  • I know - you are right but the music was still crap! I was glad to see them make some money but Funky Stuff, Hollywood Swinging, Jungle Boogie etc were SO much better than their pop stuff it was like 2 diferrent bands.

(BTW, I saw EW&F live in England in 1979 and they were great!)

  • I was 8 years old then(1979) and I wish I could go back in time to realize what I missed... (-:

  • Personally, I thought Ladies Night was a great song by them.

Unlike most bands, tehy simply adjusted with the times, even if it involved lowering their talent.

  • Agreed. My point was I'd rather they hadn't lowered their standards. But by doing so they did sell LOADS more records!

  • Someone call the IRS there's Wesley Snipes on trumpet!

Kidding aside this rocks or should I say funks.

  • Wow, they have a lot of new members of the group now. only 4 original members left from the 70's

  • Yep. Peace be to Woody Sparrow, Robert Mickens, and Charles Smith. I hope the other guys stay with us for a while.

  • And Ricky West on keyboards! The Hollywood Swinging Man!

  • Don't forget Rick West. Light of Worlds.

  • This is so cool.

  • Check it out! There is an original Kool & The Gang video of this song from the user 'trepallergb'

  • I tried to find the original video in here but couldn't find it. Can you tell me what's under? Thanks

  • I hope you see their original 70's video someday again !!!
