My favorite of the many repercussions of this project is how infuriated it has made the lower-IQ portion of each artists' fanbase (with an obvious lean towards Metallica's end).
The Black Album isn't the last great Metallica album, it's the first crappy one... this here is the LATEST crappy Metallica album... The one thing I'll defend is the fact that they aren't selling out because I really doubt anyone is buying this crap. (Except maybe 3 or 4 old Lou Reed fans). Metallica songs are all in the 3rd album, Master of Puppets: the titletrack, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Battery. People used to listen to a certain sound hardly like changes.

At this point, it sounds like people are justified in hating the new project, because they've had reason to hate Metallica's projects since the 90's. The 80's stuff was something to adjust to, the Black Album was artistic suicide.

A perfect ballad like Nothing Else Matters brought also the non-metal people closer to this band, so this is not a suicide, it's a triumph instead! Sadly, I can't find anything good in Lulu :-)

Before you malign the album, you need to realize that nobody in Metallica thinks it's a metal album. Kirk has literally said in an interview that it should "not be judged by heavy metal standards". This is a creative, artsy venture for Metallica and Lou. If you like it, then great. if not, then respect them for pushing themselves artistically and once again putting their reputation on the line. Metallica does what they want, when they want. What is more "metal" than that?
