Do you like the idea of the pyramid workouts? Like with reps being 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, 4? Or would you rather do a workout with like 5 x 5? I'm at about 450 on my squat and wanna get it up to about 500. Just curious on your thoughts.
@leemhayward do u think that if u do only heavy squat and deadlift workout for instance 5sets and 5reps, would u get great results only do there execrises and some couple of helping movements?:D
The deadlift heavily works the lower back, so yeah it's common to get some muscle soreness in that area after doing a hard deadlift workout. But as you get in better shape you'll experience less and less soreness from your workouts.
Lift within your means, if the weight is too heavy then drop it back down. Start with a weight you can manage and strive to increase the weights by 5 pounds per workout. Small jumps like this make it easier to get stronger and maintain good form.
Hey Lee, are you doing your deadlifts on a back day or on a leg day? I do back on tuesday and legs on wednesday so I wonder what's better or it doesn't have much importance... I do them on back day but I heard it's better on leg day, so I don't know...
Im 15, 135 lbs, and im doing powerlifting. My squat max is currently around 275, but recently i've started leaning heavily to the right during my workouts, and i think it's actually gone down now because of that. I have no clue what changed for this to happen. Any tips?
Hey Lee, Great video. I've been trying to put some videos together of me working out but I can't find a gym I am allowed to film at. I keep talking to managers but they won't let me. Any advice?
You'll have to find a gym that doesn't mind you shooting video. Some of the "fitness centers" around here don't let guys shoot video either. This particular gym is privately owned.
hey lee im having trouble with squatting i can barely squat like 170 and its terrible but my bench press is 200 pounds and i just started squatting and i know people that they squatted for the first time and got like 220 and 225 its just not fair :(
Honestly, it doesn't matter what you lift your first time trying an exercise. What matters is that you stick with it and make slow steady gains over the long term. The good thing is that you are aware of this weakness and you can now take action to prioritize your legs more in your workouts.
@leemhayward Yea dats real when i first started squatting i probably could do 135 lbs 10 reps max which was when i was 16, now i am 22 and i can squat 385 for 5 sets of 6 to 8 reps and my max is over 405(4 plates)! just keep at it and become innovative in changing up you workouts and you will get stronger!
if you want your max to go up work on your tech. it is possible to gain about 30lbs because of lazy tech. also do a pryaimaid set on your work out twice a week with the following sets of 8,6,4,2,12 start out with about 65-70% of your max and go up gradually after a short break on your set of two try to about 95% of your max out weight. squats are the most brutal work out it takes the longest to get a perfect squat i squat 225 and i only weigh 152 i am able to do this b/c of tech.
Hey man, that's a common question. When you work a specific muscle group, it's a myth that you are burning fat from that area. Your body will burn fat randomly from various areas determined mostly by genetics, no matter what workout it is that you do. Your best bet is cardio. Lots of cardio. The more calories you burn, the better.
when i do these exercises, should i do all the sets of the same exercise at once and then change the exercise? Or should i do 1 set and then change to the next exercise until i finish 1 round and repeat the process?
When I used to do box squats, it would hurt my lower back (feel like it is compressing it). Is this normal, or due to improper technique and/or weak muscles on my part?
Could be both, start off light and get the form down perfect first, there is a bit of a learning curve with this exercise. Once you feel solid, then gradually up the weight.

There are pros and cons to both approaches, but my favorite of the two would be the 5x5 routine.

my rear delts get extremely achey when doing deadlifts, is this normal?
spam2094 2 months ago
@spam2094
It could be from the strain on the upper back. But generally most people don't get really sore in the rear delts from deadlifts.

What about glute ham raises, they work the hamstrings from origin to insertion, unlike the leg curl?
stallion7788 1 year ago
@stallion7788
If you have access to a glute ham raise station then by all means use it. We don't have one at the gym I train at.
