the phone is still running on 1.5 here but the final release has 1.6 and it runs perfectly smooth and works great and they are coming with an upgrade 2.1 second quarter this year

Granted though, the production model is a great deal faster and would probably improve with android 2.1, when sony get around to releasing their custom firmware using it.

Upsetting to see sony butcher such a good device with a slow ui. Yes I have used one of the final handsets, and to me the HTC Sense UI on desire looks farther and more responsive than Timescape, the extra ram in the HTC really helps. In comparison to the iphone, both have a better specification. The iphone 3gs has a 833mhz Cortex A8 processor underclocked to 600mhz, which is about the same as an older HTC Hero, and yet people still think the iphones are better.

Look when this video was uploaded, and notice that the fact the phone was in prototype mode at the time.

Hence why it's slow, laggy, doesn't respond or stuff like that.

There's loads of new updates on others videos, if you looked for them.

The phone is currently released (at least not in the UK) so this phone is possibly the prototype phone, which will eventually get upgraded to 1gb.

That's right. Prototype phones such as this one tends to have glitches. Even the iPhone prototypes had lags.

I agree. Even people with money should think about plopping down $800 + tax + Internet service. Lunacy!. BTW, I just ordered a Nokia 5530 Xpress Music. It has all I need, including Wi-Fi, camera, 16GB micro SD ability and so on.

The money I saved will now be spent on a trip to the Bahamas. Lying on the beach, sipping Pina Coladas with a couple of island girls and using my $199 Nokia... I'll send a text message from Paradise island as to how much fun Im having with the $600 + I saved...

How can people say this phone is amazing when they haven't really tried a retail version? I am a huge SE fan, and this phone does look good but for me it is straying to far from what is actually is ... a mobile phone. The iPhone and the HD2 are where I'd stop. I plan on buying a HD2 soon, and although it will become out-dated by next summer, it will do me nicely =)

I wonder if you able to put widget features on your home screen just like the android features from past devices. If it doesn't that would be a bummer but the timescape feature looks quite nice. It kinda has the PSP/PS3 wave motion n the background.

You don't have to use SE's UI if you don't want to. They're kind of like widgets or apps. You can go straight Android if you want.

This unit is running a 1GHz processor and still chops and chugs? Bravo to SE for trying something different but consumers are already used to a seamless UI experience.

I was on the edge of my seat waiting to sell my iPhone in anticipation for the X10 because on paper it looks amazing, but when I sit back and think, all the X10 really offers over what I've already got is an LED flash.
