  • This is one of the oldest instruments in the world. Dating back almost 5000 years

Historically, Kurdish Music has very ancient roots that go back to the Hurrian period 2500 BC of Kurdish history. The Hurrians - the ancestors of the modern Kurds - were an ancient people that inhabited present-day Kurdistan and established several kingdoms before their aryanization by the coming Medes.

  • Wow this is the first time I have seen this instrument and I love it.

  • Hussein Zahawy was born in 1980 into a Kurdish family. He was brought up in London in a musical environment and was taught to play the daf (frame drum) by his grandfather at the age of five, which initially became his main musical instrument. At a later age, he pursued his interest in other Kurdish and world percussion instruments. At the age of thirteen, he was invited to join the first national radio and television orchestra of Kurdish music in Europe.
