  • I want one, but I don't think I'd want to wake up to that cronophage in the middle of the night.

  • I love the clock, but also find it quite sinister!

  • Wonderful piece of art. Loved it

  • Holy crap it blinked O_O

  • When Professor Hawking unveils the clock, I wonder if he will give a brief history of the timepiece?

  • Super...I have built 2 grasshopper clocks. That one is a thing of beauty!!!

  • jez du haben ewiges problem weil du probleme so lieben

  • Simply beautiful !!!! A lot of details !!!

  • that thing only takes up 60 watts???

  • Incredibly clever - every single function (seemingly random blinking, occasional slow seconds etc) is a product of the mechanical machinery of the clock - there are no separate devices, it's one mechanism. Also symbolically intelligent as a piece of art.

  • This is stunning and inspiring. What a wonderful creation!

  • very very very very very very unique clock i want a wrist watch like that now haha the grasshoppers creepy but cool .... extremly elegant very smart concept i give it

    20 out of 10 :)

  • That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen.

  • 11 o'clock precisely. What else? Strange grashopper. Looks more like a little T-Rex to me. Well, if people like it - You can even sell it to them.

  • Stunningly beutiful

  • where can i get one?

    SO COOL!

  • where can i get one?

  • =) aahahahah la lahaahahahahaha

  • Awesome. It'd suck to try and sleep with that shit in the room though.

  • Love the visual representation of the chronophage (eater of time).

  • Love the visual representation of the chronophage (eater of time).

  • I'll take one in silver xD

  • this clock is awesome O.O

  • Creepy and beautiful at the same "time" :O

  • Amazing!

  • Magnificent clock!!

I showed this video to my 3 y.o. grandson and he was truly fascinated by it. I must check it out in the flesh if I get back to the UK

  • Beautiful!

A lovely fusion of traditional clockwork with the led lights as opposed to "display".

Strange the way the clock behaves whenever striking the hour - it appears to dance to and fro.

  • Have you ever seen a grasshopper with a stinger and wings?????? Book of Revelation

  • Worth every minute of my time watching this video

  • theres a steampunk to it ..

  • How much?

  • It's certainly a masterpiece but this big insect (the grashopper) on top makes it extremely ugly, but that's only my personal opinion because I hate insects.

  • amazing feat of engineering.

  • a thing of beauty. i work and have done for some years in engineering and to see this blew me away and to see how it worked is heart warming. thank you for sharing this.

  • cool

  • That is very nice.

  • A new twist on an old concept.I love your clock.Fantastic, and mechanical. How accurate is it likely to be?I can get some of my mechanical clocks to keep <15 seconds per week.

    Sandy

  • @g0vqw Wikipedia says "The clock is entirely accurate only once every five minutes."

  • It's awesome. It's just beautiful. And all those little details. I want one :/

  • The fantastic thing is that clock isn't exact. It doesn't go in right time, it stop itself and it run when it want...

  • Beautifull

  • Do want!! Want now!! o.O

  • By watching it, the clock would go several seconds off time every hour. Watch when it strikes 3, it takes a certain amount of time to chime. After it chimes it starts back off at 0.

  • Hi there all,

The real purpose of this clock is to show that time is elastic and that it expands or contracts according to the participant. This is a Quantum Theory Clock that demonstrates in a mechanical way how time isn't exactly the "tick-tock" that we usually think.

    --John

  • Fascinating.

  • This is pure genius.

  • this is gorgeous. This guy is a genius.

  • This clock has kind of a cheap look to it. I love clocks, but something about the design lacks the class one would expect when thinking about 1 million. It looks cool when it is dark, but then the grasshopper looks like it doesn't belong there at all. And the blue light shouldn't be seen from behind the clock.

  • This reminds me of the Atlantis Stargate.

  • cool clock, bro.

  • Miniature one would be cool.

  • I wish we were in a British pub so I may communicate business with you. CHEERS!

  • What a piece, I give you the original Willy Wonka candy recipe fer that!

  • insane

  • When the clock struck the hour, it did it's chiming sequence, moving the lights back and forth. But after that, the seconds continue with 1. Shouldn't it compensate for the chiming? Aren't they losing seconds?

  • Practical art.

  • There is something at once soothing and hypnotic about a precision mechanical device. I could stare at this for hours. I would love to have a scaled-down version for my home.

  • Holy crap.

    I. Must. Have. One.

  • Masonic peice of shit.

  • freaky, lol, JOKES

  • Jed Clampett-lookin' inventor

  • Most. Badass. Clock. Ever.

  • he made einstein sound like a pimp!

    (he totally was too!) :P

  • I believe this cost over a million dollars, am I correct?

  • Awesome...! I wonder if they'll make a smaller version of these for the public, I'd love one!

  • fascinating, i like how its a relatively simple set of mechanisms, but the effect is beautifully complex.

The radial slits are an ingenious method of animation.

I did get the impression though that it may herald a few developments about understanding timetravel perhaps at the college. :)

  • If it were quieter, I'd like to have one in my room. :D Looks awesome!

  • That thing's eyes are fucked up.

  • What an amazing machine and work of art. Beautiful yet frightening at the same time. I love the sound of it too. Very cool!!

  • This guy most likely went straight to his masonic meeting after making this video.

  • it gives me the heebeegeebees

  • Weird stuff ..... it is quite subliminal..... FOULISH MORTALS:(

  • Omg, this it`s amazing.....

  • my teacher went to england and she got a book about it its so incredible!!!

  • This is super Satanic. We should not glory in this 'device'

  • Brilliant but nasty, Nobody is gonna put this on their wall whist they are eating dinner.

  • Amazing...You should be very proud of this Artwork .

  • Possibly one of the coolest things I've seen.

  • Fan-Bloody-Tastique and I'll have two

  • Well impressive piece of work :)

  • Does the "Klingon High Command" know you took their clock out of their conference room?

  • coooool, but too big for my room :P

  • That's fantastic. Very cool.

  • Wow, this is old.

  • though i'd be annoyed by the constant noise, the technical concept behind is amazing as is the detailed display of the grasshopper - even his eyes blink!

  • daymn......ist an ugly ass clock, as a clock.

    but its amazing as art.

    and its big as fuck...

  • that fucking bug thing is creepy as shit... i say we beat it with a bat...

  • I lived in Cambridge and fall under the category mentioned ("unsuspecting citizens of Cambridge"). It is pretty cool in real life.

  • Ok, that went from the coolest clock I've ever seen, to the creepiest just like that.

  • that's a brilliant thing, but aesthetically an ugly piece of shit.

  • as cool as it is, it does seem a bit overboard.. i'll stick with my watch

  • Wow. I want one.

  • Is there's a wristwatch version it of?

  • I want a version only with the LED's

  • Looks like something H.R. Giger would think of. It's beautiful and disturbing at the same time.

  • that grasshopper is the one they talk about in revelations.

  • Time Travel is wonderful.

  • 4:00

    damn. that clock is huge.

  • that thing is brilliant :D

  • If I was going to hide dead bodies in my house. I'd make sure I had a room full of clocks. loud clocks. on the walls. would definitely need one that has eyes that go back and forth. if i was going to hide dead bodies in my house... that is..

  • Great work of engineering, glad this made it to Digg.

  • Marvelous. I remember Wired Magazine did a write up on this beauty. They go into how the clock occasionally slows to a near stop and then speeds up to 'catch back up'. Also it goes into the name of the grasshopper itself, Chronophage = time eater.

  • wow, that is truly impressive

  • a breathtakingly beautiful piece of kinetic sculpture. Congratulations to all involved in designing, building, and hosting this wonderful achievement!

  • It just goes to show you can't be too careful!

  • Amazing

  • I like this and would love to see the lights method used more often. I'm not sure I like the grasshopper design. It's cool but distracting from the clock. I'm more simplistic. I'd pay a lot to have a sleek black/blue clock like this though.

  • thats one hell of a time piece.

  • Fantastic clock. But what kind of scary-arse grasshoppers are flitting about in Taylor's backyard?

  • So disgusting, so ugly...so beautiful.

  • It makes me think

  • thats the scariest grasshopper ive ever seen

  • it looks cool as hell in the dark without the silly grasshopper

  • beautiful but Satanic

  • wow, just wow

  • Beautful clock!!

  • pure Satanism

  • Miniaturize & sell immediately. Its disturbingly gorgeous....but gorgeous nonetheless.

  • that's creepy as hell...but also really cool looking too. I'd love to have that in my home, just not in my room lol

  • Totally Satanic

  • it must be hell trying to change the time on daylight savings lol

  • Wow... shiny!

  • Beautiful and amazing. A great mix of old and new.

  • Do they make a mini version. (Chris Farley voice) That's totally...AWESOME.

  • did wired steal this video?

  • the cronophage looks so awesome!!! i absolutely love how badass it looks! it looks like a dragon or a deep sea fish! both of which i absolutely love!!! i would buy this if you should ever sell a replica!!!!

  • I absolutely love it! every bit of it!!!! i would buy it if i could!!! if i won the lottery, 2 million would go on a duplicate of this baby!!!!

  • Why are you heretics/pagans giving Decoded69 4 thumbs down? Just because he said Rev 9 ? maybe you should try reading it.

  • this guy knows somethin we dont.... i dont fucking like it

  • wow, so much hate on the youtube comments.

this is a magnificent piece of work. thank you.

  • That clock is awesome I would love to have one.

I could stare at it all day long hearing Tic Toc Tic Toc.

  • That clock is awesome I would love to have one.

I could stare at it all day long hearing Tic Toc Tic Toc.

  • That is so cool if they made a smaller version I would totally buy it.

  • September 19 , day of the inauguration, both the announcement that the Hadron collider failed and the World market? "Put" options banned. But can a "plane" fly though a building without slowing down? Will Taylor quote Einstein? Taylor here conflates subjective and objective time. /oqEpuTGc98s

  • This clock is actually giving me the chills....I know it's just a clock by just the combination of the noise and the evil-looking grasshopper "eating" away time, is somewhat terrifying

  • maybe you think it's ugly 'cause you didn't pay attention to how it works. it's the idea and the engineering behind it that make it beautiful. mechanics is such a fascinating thing (*sigh*).

  • Whoah. Wish they spent more time explaining the inner workings.

  • It's a fantastic machine

It's a dream machine for "Steam Punk" fans

who loves this kind of mechanical contraptions. Abney Park musical clips shows some contraptions like this. Fantastic

  • A magnificent clock except for the grasshopper.

  • interesting design the concentric circles by why in my opinion is an unatrractive insect on top

  • Chapter 9 of revalations anyone ????? Wow! so sublimnal!!

  • Revelation 9: Locusts

    Corpus Clock: Grasshopper

    = no link

  • You don't know what subliminal means or how to spell it.

  • There is no god, nothing to worry about.

  • What do you mean? its just a clock.???

  • no thanks.

  • Yes it is ......

    2 meany blind eyes....

  • I'm reading Rev 9 right now and i see that it could relate to verse 9 and just that.

no hair of a woman. no human face (God forbid). and it sounds like a clock not the sounds of chariots with horses. unless thats not what you were getting to.....but please don't say things like that without a fact to why because the Bible is taken wrong as it is already.

  • Wow, i want one :D

  • me 2 were can i get 2 one 4 me and 1 for eBay...

  • Beautiful. Magical.

  • I love clocks, this one is fabouless.

    Thx for sharing

  • Awesome!!

  • What an ugly piece of shit.

  • You build a better one and show it to us and maybe we'll acknowledge your opinion.

  • Tbf he has a point..

  • In your (unfathomably wrong) opinion.

  • U too.

  • @blueplant66: what an uneducated moron...

  • That is what appears to be coming out of your mouth, yes.

  • what a fantastic work of art and horology.

  • i want to see it so badly. it has a great sound too

  • Yay, a version of the video that isn't squished :D

  • cool

  • ugly

  • Nice! I wouldn't mind having one of them.

  • Really impresive. Wonderful job!

  • Love it, well done.

  • Don't you think it's a bit too mechanic?

  • Thats the charm of it, tic tac tic tac :)

  • You might as well have said "don't you think it's a bit too clock?"

  • You know it's coming. FIRST?

  • OLOLOL FIRST COMMENT

  • Interesting enough, but (hate to say this) utterly useless.

  • How is it useless? It's a functioning clock and a beautiful piece of art.

  • Yeah a functioning clock with a "silicon brain, which lets the device do surprisingly un-clocklike things—slow down, stop, even run backward."

A clock that doesn't tell accurate time seems like a pretty useless clock to me. In terms of the design and aesthetic though, it's magnificent.

  • @PhallusCooper only someone who couldn't read an analog clock would say it's useless =P

  • Clocks are used to read the time. I live in Cambridge, and have visited this clock. Although it has a different time system to normal clocks, it is possible to read the time from this one. Therefore, it is not useless.

  • how are clocks useless?

  • It's as useless as any clock.

  • @IamBuddhaHearMeBurp

Was the Mona Lisa useless? How about Michelangelo's David? This is a true art of engineering. The ignorance of some is almost as astonishing as this clock.

  • wow. looks very... weird.

kind of pointless because of clocks today, but i liek the way it works.

  • Excelent time!

  • AMAZING!! Such a fun video to watch!!

    /sarcasm

  • get some culture. youth.
