Im a younger guy but I rate Burt Lancaster as one of my favorite movie actors ever. My favorite film (and in my opinion, one of his great under-rated films) was in a 1964 movie called "The Train". I recommend that movie to anyone whos a fan of Lancaster
Burt Lancaster did a lot of his own stunts too. For example, there is a lengthy, continuous shot, in the movie "The Train" (great film), where he runs, catches and jumps onto a moving train. Even IF any of the movie stars of today wanted to do a stunt like that, the studio would never let it happen.
One of Lancaster's best performances was in the Italian film "The Leopard" in which he played a Sicilian Prince adapting to drastic changes in the Italian social structure. My father who was born and raised in Sicily in the early 1900's said that his performance was very authentic. Perhaps because Lancaster was raised in the old Italian American neighborhood of East Harlem. Many of the old timers remembered him very well.
I didn't see them mentioned in the clips, but two of my all-time favorite Lancaster performances were in Brute Force and Go Tell the Spartans. The former is just a top flight film noir take on the prison movie with a great cast. GTtS remains one of the more intriguing war films ever made, despite its meager production budget.
He was the most fantastic handsome actor. I remember seeing the film trapeze when I was just 5 yeas old and was totaly captivated by him. Burt Lancaster.....Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe the biggest star of them all....an actor who wasn't afraid to tackle any role. It's heartbreaking to think that such a man of action had to spend the last few years of his life unable to walk and barely able to speak.....far better to remember him the way he was and the way he will stay forever to his fans...a big powerful man who moved with extraordinary grace...and who dominated every scene he appeared in regardless of who his co-stars were.
@92af The hell he was a bad actor! You are a complete idiot if you believe that. Keanu Reeves, Bill Paxton, Bill Pullman are all examples of bad actors. Nobody that knows anything about movies and acting would ever include Burt Lancaster in that group.
@jenkosblues Burt Lancaster......"bad" actor??? LOL. Maybe the person who made that comment thought it was "opposite day"? Lancaster is consistently rated among the top 10 greatest actors in history. While some were better than others, I don't think he was ever attached to a really "bad" movie, and he has acted in many great/est films. Bad actor.........only an ignorant child would make such a comment.
Burt Lancaster a bad actor? Now some people are so jealous of success that they enjoy attacking
an ICON. Their attacks give them the punk power they can finally achieve. Burt Lancaster was a great actor. THE SWIMMER is only one example of his talent!
Thank you so much for uploading this, videoholic. It's hard to believe that this wonderful actor left us over fifteen years ago. Forever missed, never forgotten. Burt Lancaster, R.I.P. <3 <3 <3 <3

Let me see Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp do a backflip like that without wires or a stunt double.

Burt Lancaster was one fine man and actor...so masculine but one of the most graceful men onscreen.

All that talent - and GORGEOUS to boot! 'Larger than life' indeed -the screen could barely hold him. We were lucky to have him.
