Old Offspring kicks ass, not a fan of the new stuff at all. I mean, c'mon...Pretty Fly For a White Guy? They went from THIS to...THAT. I feel the same way about MxPx, started out a killer group, fast Pop Punk and then went to that "Responsibility" crap. I don't mind when bands sell out and go mainstream, but when their sound is forced to drastically change and I don't dig their new sound, I'm simply no longer a fan. It is what it is, but that's the way mainstream labels operate. It's sad.
dex turned trendy. he does what others want him to do. like the label wantin him to write a catchy pop punk song that can b playd on the radio. i still love offspring but it makes me sad to see them become sellouts
Sure the Offspring have got a little more mainstream, but i don't think they sold out. Look at songs like "Takes Me Nowhere" and "Trust In You" Those sound like old offspring. If a band did the same thing every album it would get boring for them and the fans and they wouldn't get any new fans..They are still awesome. Can't wait for their new album in 2010!
When where the offspring not mainstream? Think back, punk rock became popular again right about the time the offspring started getting big, smash was a very mainstream album and ironically most people site it as their best and most "punk" whatever punk means now.
heres my view. most punk was offspring, then ignition, then smash. over time there albums got more and more pop punk then just punk. ever since they left epitaph, i think columbia made him get rid of his awesome braids and get a more normal haircut to improve there image and not look like a bunch of punks.
I very much doubt that colubia made him cut his hair. Even smash was mainstream its its own rights, many fans said they'd sold out when they brought that out, now they say it was their best album. Sure the offspring have changed, it was their own choice. I am a fan and i have have followed them through the years. To me, they've always just been the offspring.
But thats the thing, punk really means to do whatever the fuck you want, theirs no code, that was the point in punk, d.i.y. You could look how you wanted, plus, do you think dexter looked very punk rock with braids?
yeah.god forbid that someone does their hair before going onstage to put on a good show.how picky can you be the offspring was amazing before smash and their amazing now.
So you are saying they sold out when he started to "doing his hair?" Do mean cutting it or what? Do you cut your hair? Ever put gel or wax in it? During the "smash" years Dexter had gay looking braids, how is that good and his current hair bad?
No dipshit the hair dont matter all i was saying is there music just got less and less punk Being punk is bout bein diffrent and your own person and which ones more different braids or "done hair"
Well now son, i've said it before and i'll say it again, "punk" is or at least was, about doing whatever the fuck you wanted to do, so in those respects, they are "punk". Is punk staying underground and having a handful of fans and having braids instead of un-original hair? Show me a punk band that is still original, or different, or "not done." How is their music any less punk now? They used to sing about the same things as they do now, if you don;t like them now then you never really did.
How have the Offspring sold out? Everyone said that when they brought Ixnay on the Hombre out, fucking hell, people who go around crying "sell out" are usually dumb fucking kids who are as fake as their opinions. Everybody said that the Clash sold out when they brought out London Calling, because it wasn't "punk". Fuck off, go and listen to something else then.
Offspring never sold out. You figure would that floor would move a little bit. The only sell outs are the people in that crowd that came to a bad ass punk show, and didn't break some shit. If you started listening to the Offspring because of pretty fly for a white guy, then "yes" you are a mainsteam poser. I suggest you get yourself some bad religion or nofx immediately! Who can bitch about the number one selling indy record of all time.
i dunno if having a bunch of people like you is really considered selling out, the offspring has been around for a while, people will change. letting fans have the say as to what you play is selling out also
Sold out? They've matured, that's what that is. Here was Dexter's answer when asked what is punk rock: "What is punk? Well, for us it's always been about following your own destiny, thinking for yourself, making your own decisions, and going along with what you think is right, no matter if other people agree with you or not." (Source: flymusic tv interview)
True, RAFRAG has a different sound than Smash and isn't punk by label, but selling out is a term from those who can't mature as a band.
if it could be considered that they have sold out they certainly hadn't sold out when this song came out. Furthermore this is one of he greatest albums in rock history
i don't understand this "they sold out" shit, when did that happen? they haven't changed much in 15 years, when you think of all the bands that came and went in the time the offspring have been around and how little they have changed, you still think they sold out? then you're an idiot
I'll tell you exactly when it happened:when Splinter came out,and their subsequent albums were even worse. While America and Conspiracy of One both had poppy "aimed at mass market/young teens" songs like Pretty Fly, Original Prankster etc. they were still pretty good albums.Splinter and the later ones are just a joke.I am not against bands changing, that can be a very good thing. But Offspring has not changed positively, and you don't know what you're talking about if you think they sound the same
and the mini album shoud go in this order: 1(Can't Get My) Head Around 2 Never Gonna Find Me 3 Lightning Rod 4 Race Against Myself 5 The Noose 6 Long Way Home 7 Da Hui 8 Spare Me the Details (not a bad song) 9 Pass Me By(this song should be in the album) 10 Defy You 11 Defy You (Acoustic Version) and "Lightning Rod" as the firs single and Video...what do you guys think...??
Their first 2 albums was like Smash but more close to oldschool Cal hardcore. Nothing to do with thrash or death metal. Just most people ignore the first album ("the offspring") and some even the 2nd ("ignition"), albums that are awesome but people that listen to them for songs like pretty fly or hit that won't like:)
people that listen to them for songs like pretty fly or hit that won't like jajaja yes that is sad but true.... they listen to No Hero and say WTF....??
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Please, stop this! It was all just a f***kin' joke, I mean THIS GUY CAN'T sing LIVE. Either too much beer or whatever.(doesn't mean he's a bad singer, look at Kurt, he'd the same problem on stage)
I love their first two albums but you'll have to admit that they just suck so hard without their vocoder... ;-)
And by the way is it a legend that Offspring was a Trash-metal or Death-metal band before they got known?
"because there is nothing they could write that would be any better than what they have already done." try... EXACTLY the same, listen to "trust in you" kindof dissapointing.. but i do aggree, they are an amazing band
yeah you are 100% right there man, cant stand folk saying RAFRag is true to there old sound , they must be delusional ,hammerhead and the noose is all i really like after conspiracy of one.
come to think about that a band never stops developing!
you can't say they are not rocking anymore... cause if they play their old stuff (like i said befor - but you don't get it) they still fucking rocking!
