I'm being pedantic here but the titel is "That was The Day" officially lol. It is This Is The Day but it's from the 1994 Dis-infected EP where Matt reworked some old songs. he titled this That Was The Day. Ok. ..whatever,lol. It's still one of the best songs of all time.
titel=title!! and i meant the original is one of the best songs of all time; this is just a great alternative version. The harmonica replacing the hammond organ I loved back in 1994 but you can't touch the original. Soul Mining is one of the best albums ever.
i was introduced to this song 18 years ago by and old girlfriend. To this day it still has the ability to make me smile or cry depending on my state of mind. It has to be one of the best songs ever written. It reminds me of someone very special. Olivia if you are out there i will always love you xx
i HATE drum machines, is it not possible to find a live version of this gorgeous song without a drum machine boinging away in the background ? (definitely the worst thing about 80's music)
LOVE the song... LOVE this version... ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY HATE THE T-SHIRT!!! Wish folks would just sing, and not try to make pseudo-intellectual statements about things they never studied... wearing a shirt celebrating a mass murderer isn't cool... but like I said; Love the guy's music...
Like the nappy you would have been wearing at the the time. Dont you kids have some Amy Shitehouse to listen to or something? Anyway, just for you, here's the 93 line up, see if you've heard of any of them.
Alice Donut - Babes in Toyland - Bad Brains - Breeders, The - Butthole Surfers - Dinosaur Jnr - Eat - Fishbone - Gallon Drunk - Gary Clail's On-U Sound System - Gigolo Aunts - Goats, The - Grant Lee Buffalo - Jesus Lizard - Kingmaker - Lemonheads, The - Madder Rose - Ned's Atomic Dustbin -
New Order - Ozric Tentacles - Porno for Pyros - Primus - Rage against the Machine - Senseless Things, The - Siouxsie and the Banshees - Stone Temple Pilots - The The - Therapy? - Tool - 22 Pisterpirko - American Music Club - Automatic - Belltower, The - Big Truth Band - Blue Aeroplanes, The - Burn - Candyskins, The - Captain Sensible - Catherine Wheel - Cropdusters, The - Daffodils - Dr Phibes and the House of Wax - Dylans, The - Edwyn Collins - Equations Fatima Mansions - Five Thirty -
Guy Clarke & Townes - Hollow Men, The - Into Paradise - Katell Keineg - Late Road Lunatics - Loves Young - Milltown Brothers - New Fast - Nightmare - Pooh Sticks, The - Popinjays, The - Power Of Dreams - Railroad Earth - Rain - Ratcat - Real People, The - Revolver - Rockingbirds, The - Southernaires, The - Sweetmouth - Thin White Rope - Thousand Yard Stare - Toasted Heretic - Van Zandt - Welfare Heroine - Well Loaded - Adorable - Back To The Planet - Bettie Serveert - Big Star - Bivouac -
I had a bootleg tape of this concert, lent it to my then manager and have not seen it since :-( Still, saw them twice in Glasgow and they just nailed both gigs. Great band who should be massive......
Matt johnson the only real artist on earth "a pure genius".I hope he continues to produce music as well as he has olways done.Italy is waiting for you.
Yeah, they're on the M&Ms commercial about 300 times a day. I've been a fan for about four years now, after finding a copy of Dusk at my aunt's house.
This song playing in our suite after 48-hours of craziness. During 'You pull back the curtains' lyric',I bet my friend that a plane would be there when I drew the curtains and sure enough, there it was. The lyrics and simplicity of the melody make it this one of the most powerful songs I ever heard, completely relating to (my) life. On the list with Aimee's Mann's 'Wise Up',David Baerwald's 'All for You' as life changing tunes.
The song is so simple and minimalist, yet hauntingly beautiful. Wonderful emotion in that performance. I think the song skimmed the lower reaches of the US Hot 100 charts back in 1983 or 1984.
Great voice: 10/10, Great lyrics: 10/10, Great shirt: 10/10
