  • Matt when will you be back in Paris, we miss you so much....

  • Maravilhoso ! s2

  • I think this is a great performance! His voice is incredible. I would give anything to see him perform live. God I wish he would tour again.

  • not the best performance, but a damn good song

  • I'm being pedantic here but the titel is "That was The Day" officially lol. It is This Is The Day but it's from the 1994 Dis-infected EP where Matt reworked some old songs. he titled this That Was The Day. Ok. ..whatever,lol. It's still one of the best songs of all time.

  • titel=title!! and i meant the original is one of the best songs of all time; this is just a great alternative version. The harmonica replacing the hammond organ I loved back in 1994 but you can't touch the original. Soul Mining is one of the best albums ever.

  • awsome band great harmonica nice one

  • totally love this song .. brings bk great mamories.. most underated band ever

  • an alltime great underrated by mainstream media. he did it his way with integrity toward the music..

  • I was at the Dublin gig too!

A great gig by one of my fave bands.

  • nice one

  • rula61, i totally concur with you there. brilliant song.

  • i was introduced to this song 18 years ago by and old girlfriend. To this day it still has the ability to make me smile or cry depending on my state of mind. It has to be one of the best songs ever written. It reminds me of someone very special. Olivia if you are out there i will always love you xx

  • Saw The The In Dublin in 1990. One of the few bands i pretty much know all of their lyrics. LEGEND!!

  • I love this song so much :-)

  • The coolness is matched only by the hardnes of Matt!

    LOL!

    Fantastic!

  • where is the british pop music since the the, the smiths and the others !!! we are waiting for it even in france

  • The harmonica player is great!!

  • Jim Fitting. Brilliant, brilliant musician from Boston!

  • Please come back The The! British music really needs you!

  • forever the the in my heart

  • Though I loved the accordion on the song, the harmonica is doing an excelent job at it. Very nice version.

  • i HATE drum machines, is it not possible to find a live version of this gorgeous song without a drum machine boinging away in the background ? (definitely the worst thing about 80's music)

  • LOVE the song... LOVE this version... ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY HATE THE T-SHIRT!!! Wish folks would just sing, and not try to make pseudo-intellectual statements about things they never studied... wearing a shirt celebrating a mass murderer isn't cool... but like I said; Love the guy's music...

  • DU CARALHO MEU TIU

  • is matt singing about the way we f*** up our lives running after a mirage ('all the money wont bring back those days') ...or is it about drugs?

  • Jim Fitting on harmonica. Vastly underrated harmonica player!Should be mentioned in the same breath as Sonny Boy or any other great.

  • the best song of the 80's for sure

  • the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TOM 1 - YAN 0

  • yea matt johnson is incredible... can't wait for something new...

  • I had a bootleg tape of this concert, lent it to my then manager and have not seen it since :-( Still, saw them twice in Glasgow and they just nailed both gigs. Great band who should be massive......

  • Superlative harmonica by Jim Fitting!

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • Matt johnson the only real artist on earth "a pure genius".I hope he continues to produce music as well as he has olways done.Italy is waiting for you.

  • He is really a great musician and can sing beautifully also. This song is one of the best of the 80´s.

  • I got to see them for the Mind Bomb tour with Johnny Marr in Atlanta. Fantastic show.

  • @HumGuitar saw them at The Beacon In NYC on that tour. Changed my life.

  • @akabbott I was at that show too. Changed more than one life :)

  • unbelievable !!!

  • how big are the the in the states?

  • not too big, they are on a candy commercial.

  • Yeah, they're on the M&Ms commercial about 300 times a day. I've been a fan for about four years now, after finding a copy of Dusk at my aunt's house.

  • 6:14 a.m. Las Vegas, December 9th, 1992.

This song playing in our suite after 48-hours of craziness. During 'You pull back the curtains' lyric',I bet my friend that a plane would be there when I drew the curtains and sure enough, there it was. The lyrics and simplicity of the melody make it this one of the most powerful songs I ever heard, completely relating to (my) life. On the list with Aimee's Mann's 'Wise Up',David Baerwald's 'All for You' as life changing tunes.

  • sometimes a big gig turns into a small affair ?? takes a great artist to do this ???

  • Perfection....lyrically, musically, in attitude, vocally.....nothing beats it....ever

  • What a surprisng and brilliantly stripped back version. A great voice.

  • Aww... where's the accordian? That made the song!

  • Matt Johnson is a profound political thinker and one of the great musicians to come from the UK. Cleveland Rocks.

  • I never knew he was this good live! Matt, thanks for all the great songs. You've been the soundtrack to a lot of adventures.

  • Excellent!! !

  • Excellent!!

And it took me a long time to find this video here!

Matt Johnson is awesome!! loved him for ages!

  • Brilliant!

I lost my Virginity while this Song was playing.

    How Good ist that?

  • lucky ****er

  • That is as good as it gets!!!!

  • Too right. Perfection.

  • We all wished an event like that should to be surrounded by such a beautiful atmosphere. Congrats.

  • The work of a genius, seen the The live a couple of times, blew me away.

  • eletronic drum´s:)

  • Does anyone has THE THE live in concert on DVD?

I have loads of DVDs to trade, more than 250 DVDs of different artist!

    Would love to trade!

  • matt johnson a pure genius

  • The song is so simple and minimalist, yet hauntingly beautiful. Wonderful emotion in that performance. I think the song skimmed the lower reaches of the US Hot 100 charts back in 1983 or 1984.

  • Simply Great. One of the best pop songs ever.

  • Brilliant! He is fantastic live!
