very helpful video! It was very easy to do but im still having a problem.. i bought a brand new cylinder and installed it. the acc and on position works fine but it wont start but when i put the old one back in the it starts fine.. so today i went to the junk yard and found one with the key still in it and installed it with the same results. no start... what you think?
@kandleguy87 You would need to somehow get the key to turn forward. If you haven't, try to wiggle the key up and down as you turn it forward. Also you may want to make sure that the steering wheel is not locked in place. Hope this helps you out.
i got a problem with my 96 mazda protege. the key is stuck in the ingition and wont turn back to the lock position (0) but it will go in Acc (2) on (3) and start (4) so i am forced to leave it in Acc which drains my battery even when i have everything shut off. any help?
what if the pin doesnt just slide in? i have a 1991 honda civic and the pin isnt taper so it just slides in. its circler all around. so im guess you would need something to hold it down until it clears. any suggestions??
is there a tutorial to do this with an older chevy? ive been at it for 2 days already trying to get the cylinder and the turn signal switch on my 89 caprice 305 classic
so how to you take out this cylinder if you dont have the key? my buddy was trying to cut a key for his astro van so the locksmith destroyed the cylinder taking it out so he could get the key code. is there not an easier way instead of destroying it to get it out??
@TNredneck84 The easiest way to remove them is if you have the correct key. If he gets the code and has a key made he should be able to turn the ignition to remove it. Then he could replace it if he needed to.
@1aauto he says you cant get a code for GM models before 98 or something like that. thats why they had to destroy it to get it out. is there not an easier way if you cant get the code? it seems this way is pretty violent and breaks things that probably shouldnt be broken....hope you can help!
@TNredneck84 We show how to remove the ignition if your current one is sticky and you have the key. I'm not aware of a away to remove it without the key.
@WillieHatesDQ You would need to find a way to get the tumbler to turn in order to remove the switch. You could try to jiggle the key while you turn the ignition to see if this helps.
@Rheygand Sometimes the ignition wears out or breaks in these vehicles, we sell a replacement ingition and show you how to replace the one in your Chevy Venture, incase this happens to you.
how would it work if your ignition was sabotaged?

@xochix01 You may want to double check to see if everything is lined up correctly. It should just slide right in.

My son stuck a paper clip deep into the ignition, so I can't get my key inside. Is there a workaround for this situation?
geobeck1969 3 months ago
@geobeck1969 Boy that's a tough one. You need to get the ignition to turn in order to be able to remove it.

does the replacement of lock cylinder and key affect the theft deterrent system?
Daddybopper 7 months ago
@Daddybopper It shouldn't as this is controlled by a matched code between your FOB and the security computer in the vehicle.
