Imagine yourself working with those kind of trees and being crouching for 7-8 hours around them. Your back and legs would be killing you for sure, and if you work hard as you can, you get tired and your back will be in wrong postions ffor last hours of day. I'v been felling trees in the good old UK for over 20 years and we wouldn't waste that much timber in this country. For a start we couldn't get our extraction equipment around stumps that high, and our trees arn't as big, (waste not wont not),,
@lysander301 You should never fell a tree near to the ground because the roots have too much influence on the base of the tree - essentially it's harder to get a directional fell. The stump would be cut off afterwards.

@lysander301 You should never fell a tree near to the ground because the roots have too much influence on the base of the tree - essentially it's harder to get a directional fell. The stump would be cut off afterwards.

Also take an ecology class. Ecosystems dont spring up where there are 6" little trees. They move on to a different area. most of these monster trees are either diseased or in decline. they clear out the big trees to make room for the new smaller trees that they plant. Loggers actual professional loggers replant trees. Think of them as forest managers there helping maximize the forests production.

I'm curious why these old growth trees were cut? Were they on land being developed? Without much of a description on the video it leaves everyone to use their to imagination.
To the log-at-all-cost peeps... nature doesn't always have a solution for what humans do. Clear cutting can change an ecosystem and climate for centuries. Personally, I don't give a damn about loggers if it means my grand kids are going to inherit a moonscape. If loggers are so tough then they can go do other work, too.
