I lived as a very young kid in the elephant and castle in the late 70's...my mum (we are asian) made the point that Brixton was full of police back then on the streets...yet white working class elephant and castle (which had terrible crime probs...my dad was mugged by 3 white kids and his leg broken) had no big police presence...
