  • You really shouldn't smoke pot and hike .......... you might hurt yourself - just sayin!

  • he's cold thats why he did not move fast and when he tryed it took him a long time

  • I dont like snakes in my garden..lol On a hike maybe.

  • Very nice! Thanks for the nature hike. That's a very interesting timber rattler. :)

  • Thanks kalacaw! I was lucky to escape in one piece I tell ya:))

  • Snakes... Fascinating creatures... I always enjoy meeting them!

  • I enjoy meeting them too! I'm always glad when I see them before I step on them though, LOL.

  • Have you met the forest POPPE? He lives under a big tree.

  • Hehehe, nope this is the first I've heard of him. I'll have to be on the lookout for him. Normally I just see timber rattlers and octopus's:)

  • Those timber rattlers sure get big! Now I know why you're a gardener and not the host of a nature series. That was no octopus, it was a squid. Get it right next time! :P

  • Oops! I don't know how I could have screwed that up! It's a darn shame I don't like calamari or I could go back up there and track that sucker down kill it and eat for months! I've seen it up there a lot so I don't think it strays very far from it's natural habitat.

  • I'm one of those who are freaked out by snakes (city boy) so if I knew there were snakes where I was hiking - I would NOT hike there - lol.

  • Hehehe, I guess in your case it's best you not know they're there or you'd NEVER go hiking then. Because if there's a forest there's snakes!

  • Ignorance - in this example - is bliss :)

  • I wonder if those snakes had wintered together in the same place and had just decided to come out that day.

I'm glad the octopus didn't decide to chase you. Something like that could give a person bad dreams.

  • I'm betting those two snakes knew each other:) And yes it would have been nightmare city if that octopus had given chase!

  • I love that crunch, crunch, crunch sound as you are walking. It's hard to get that when you live in a city. That was a beautiful little snake!

  • It's an even louder crunch in the fall after the leaves have just fallen.

  • you have bigger balls than i

my great grandfather was killed by a snake

    nice close ups ya got

    *waves to snake*

yeah, stay over there mr. snake

  • Mr. Snake says he's a little hoarse and for you to come closer so he can tell you Hi:)))

  • Since you say you're not good at identifying snakes, were you not worried it might be a dangerous one? Or maybe you don't get poisonous ones in your area? I'd keep my distance lol! Pretty though :)

You should have taken that Timber Rattler home with you!

  • I really wasn't worried. I stayed plenty far enough away from it and utilized the zoom on my camera.

I've only got room for the head of the Timber Rattler I'm afraid so I guess I'll just leave it out in the wild:)

  • Nice stroll....pretty snakes,I would be scared.

Stick with my cats, because I can cuddle them,well....sometimes...if they let me...lol

    Great video :-)

  • I'm not afraid of them as long as I see them well before I step on or over them.

Sometimes ya just gotta let the cat be the one that starts the cuddling, LOL.

  • Oiy!!!

  • Vey!!!

  • Mr. Snake sure is staring into the camera!

  • I wouldn't want to get into a staring contest with him. I'm sure I'd blink first!

  • sorry, I dont do snakes!

  • Very cool! what a nice stroll through the woods. Very punny! LOL! Thanks,Grams

  • Thanks for watching Grams! You're one of my most faithful subscribers:)

  • LOL you're a nut!!!!

  • Yep, that's me!!!

  • I see you are branching out into wildlife documentaries but for goodness snake, can't a guy lie in the sun for an hour without getting prodded? He has "leaf me alone" written all over his face!

  • The garter snakes did look a little perturbed. I think the timber rattler was planning some sort of evil plot however. I fear he'll summon other timber rattlers and they'll then break up into splinter groups and cause all sorts of mischief.

  • a likely tail!

  • Rogue Timber Rattler splinter groups can be a knotty problem to sink ones teeth into and eradicate.

  • You are thilly. :-D

  • I probably should come out with a line of Thilly Cheese Steaks but people would probably laugh at the idea:)

  • You keep poking that thing and poking that thing, and then it rears up and bites you in the ankle. I know a cobra when I see one. Consider yourself lucky.

  • Whew! I was luckier than I thought I was. Escaping a Cobra and a Timber Rattler in one day is hard to pull off!

  • Yeah, that's why I wear boots when hiking. Of course we have rattle snakes out here. But I have to ask, what was Nadia Suleman doing out there? Octomom in the woods - where were her children? Enquiring minds want to know..... Terrific video.

  • I think she had a shovel with her. (Hey, accidents happen ya know:)

  • identifing snakes is difficult b/c there are so many types of them. there are more than 100 types of corn snakes and i know there allot of types of garter snakes what is important though is knowing the poisiness ones. in the USA. there are 4 types. 1. water moc. 2.copper head 3. coral 4. rattle snake. know what these look like and all the others are non-poison it's a good thing to know.

  • Thanks for the info. I think even some of the non-poisonous ones have teeth which might hurt a little if they were to bite you. The garter snakes don't have any from what I read. I pretty much treat all of them with a healthy dose of caution. I guess if I ever got bit by one it would be best to know what kind it was though. We have both copperheads and rattlesnakes here but no corals or mocs.

  • He's just posing for the camera :O) Do you know what kind of snake that is? Never mind ... you answered my question. They are good for the garden :O) Way cool critters! TIMBER RATTLER!! YIKES (Bark is worse...LOL) They are related to the SNOW SNAKE. Thanks for taking me along for the hike. That is a beautiful area:O)

  • Thanks Dorotwhy! Yep, I like it here anyway. We only had about 1" of snow last winter. Pretty soon the snow snakes will be extinct around here I think.

  • snakes are cool when they're a few feet in front

  • Thats pretty much the way I feel about them too:) Some people will pick up non-poisonous ones hand handle them but I don't see the appeal. Supposedly these garter snakes don't even have teeth and I've seen videos of people handling several of them at a time.

  • Very cute...Blinky!

...but your little Gartersnakes sure were not easily spooked.

  • Thanks Beeke! I encountered another one of these in the middle of last summer at my outside water faucet. It wasn't easily spooked either. I guess that's just their nature.

  • I was waiting for you to pick them up! Of course, they probably would have peed on y ou.

  • I didn't know if they were poisonous or not until I came home and looked them up. Even still, I like snakes well enough, but don't much feel the urge to handle them.

  • im glad theres not many snakes here in england they freak me out!

  • I like snakes just fine.... at a certain distance, LOL.

  • Heh heh heh "its bark is worse than its bite." Corny but good!

  • Thanks David Ray! It's probably best to leaf those timber rattlers alone:)))

  • Wow.. that was kinda special Blinky.

We don't see that kind of thing here. I've never run into a snake in the wild. x

  • From seeing the reptiles you have I'm sure if you ever were to run into one in the wild you'd be very tempted to capture in and take it home and keep it for a pet, LOL.

  • Hehe.. c'mon I'm not quite THAT bad!

I'm just watching white tiger cubs being born on TV. It's making me cry! lol

  • Boy Robert...you really went out on a "limb" for this video. You must have had a mean look on your face cause that octopus looked "petrified."

    ha ha haaaaaa! hugs, Chris

  • Hehehehe, yep I'm sure that octopus was just as afraid of me as I was of it:)))

  • Now i love this little snake!

I bet you didn't think i would say that hey Blinky!

He is devoid of spikes and prickles, in fact he's a very smooth looking character..

I think we only have grass snakes and adders in England

  • Nope I never would have guessed that you'd say that at all! LOL. It's hard to say but I guess even snakes wouldn't eat those ever so cute hedgehogs because of their prickly nature. We have quite a variety of snakes here but not really an abundance of them in sheer numbers. I actually did almost step on a rattlesnake once while hiking (many years ago) which scared me half to death. It's the only rattlesnake I've ever seen in the wild here.

  • In my sons school ( he's a teacher ) some people brought in all these snakes and i went along to see them, and we were allowed to hold them and i just thought what wonderful creatures they were.. i was surprised how heavy and 'muscley' they are

    :-)

  • The hedgehog is probably more likely to kill the snake, than the other way round, should it get a chance.. :)

  • that is a mean looking snake, love and respect scotty and libby:0)

  • Thanks Scotty and Libby. That first on did act like he got a little mad at me. I was disturbing his sunbathing.

  • Cool! Nice hike there buddy!!

I miss the woods of the east coast. And all the snakes. I don't seem to spot near as many out here.

  • I like snakes so long as I spot them before they spot me, LOL. Unfortunately I'm not good enough at identifying them to know which ones are poisonous. I can usually find out later on if I take a picture of them though.

  • Beware the timber rattler... :)

  • Only my stealthy wiles prevented me from becoming timber rattler lunchmeat!

  • phew!

  • i love snakes :)

we have tons 'round our yard

    xoexo

  • Sometimes I go 2 or 3 years and never see a single one so I was surpised to see these. I wouldn't say I love them but I'd never kill one the way some people do. They're in important part of the ecosystem. On the other hand I wouldn't be too crazy about it if my yard was crawling with rattlesnakes, LOL. These garter snakes are harmless.

  • when i was little there were lots of rattle snakes around & also coral snakes. we had to be careful when we played outside. but now that the d@mned town has become a massive tourist trap its become over developed and not many are around.

we have lots of harmless snakes though. i have a reel mower so while i do the lawn i sneak up on them atleast 5 times a yard session. i like when they try and attack the mower. what i can live with out is all the spiders...

    xoexo

  • Very cool! The temperatures must not be quite warm enough yet for the snakes to be frisky. They seem to be still in their winter sluggish mode. Great video! I love that dangerous timber snake and the octopus was terriiying. You were so brave to venture into the wilds of snakedom. :-)

  • I think I'm still suffering some post traumatic stress syndrome but given enough time and bowls of ice cream I should get over it:)

  • Even tho I hate snakes.. still a cool vid I think...lol

  • Thanks Bocist! They sometimes scare me to death when I nearly step on one and I have no desire to handle even a non-poisonous one but overall I'm cool with them. They're just part of the canvas of nature.

  • do you mind if i call you brook; since you are babbling? lol what part of the world is this?

  • Western North Carolina. Ya, it's probably a tossup as to whether my videos are more, or less interesting depending on whether I talk or not, LOL. It can go either way.

  • Do you go on lots of snake hikes? lol

  • I go on quite a few hikes but almost never see even a single snake.
