  • wow chihahua dancing!!!! the image is ecstacy!

  • @1:09:09 Jeff is asked about the possibility of running his non-Turing machines on non-Turing Hardware designed specifically for them, which is totally the right track.

  • Hawkins is heroic. What a wonderful human being! I wish him the best of success, but he does't need my wishes. People like Hawkins and Monica Anderson should be the heroes of pop culture.

  • 30,000 Neruoscientist, 3: 50 yet they can't develop a S-AI. Each person working on topic, and a combined conference or culmination of the information using the net would lead to immediate development, as it would with any project.

What more, in that amount of people you will rarely find one that has the same inventive powers as say Vinci, which is somewhat of a probable set back.

  • Hurray for atheists

  • @321lawc This has nothing to do with atheïsm. This is just scientific evolution : ) Don't bring in the old intelligent design (creator) vs "evolutionary" debate. The scientific community (in particular cognitive science) is making nice progress, but we still understand shit :) (and no i'm totally not religious). btw Atheism or science are also just matrices for filtering information and structure our environment for better "understanding". They are religions in essence to.

  • @Sciencegek while there is truth in the idea that science is modern religion, it should be acknowledged that certain beliefs are not congruent with a reality that involves man made machines capable of any feat of mental awareness that man has achieved. we are lucky that people are willing to suspend the construction of their belief system until more reliable evidence can be provided by science.

  • 30min

  • But I don't understand how can this theory contradict with Turing's theory if they use a Turing machine to implement the model?

  • It contradict with Turings' theory about AI.

But not with Turing's theory about computing (Turing machines).

  • He explains in the last few minutes of the video. Turing machines are universal, so they can simulate (or emulate) any other type of machine.

  • This theory contradicts Turing's theory about Artificial Intelligence (namely that behavior characterizes artificial intelligence) but not his theory that Turing machines can compute any computable problem. Hawkins believes prediction demonstrates intelligence not behavior.

Of course the algorithm Hawkins touts could be simulated in a turing machine. After all, the brain is a finite state machine.

Turing formulated more than one theory in his life.

  • You're confusing different parts of Turing's work, as Ilgas points out (I now notice)...

  • Turing's theory is that behavior is the proof of intelligence. Hawkins is saying that is not true. It is prediction that is the proof of intelligence.

  • It doesn't really contradict. This HTS thing is basically a new way of storing data that accurately emulates the way our brain does it.

The rest is explained in the video, if we can emulate the way the brain does it, which basically defines our perception of intelligence, then we can design a machine around it that conforms to that perception.

    Blows my mind.

  • we will be able to built very sophisticated general AI system using HTM, heuristic based learning algorithm soon.. some people have already done it..but there is still lot to do..

regarding machine consciousness..I guess we need a good theoretical framework first.. Cristoph Koch, Giulio Tononi and many other scientists are already working on it

  • this is really good!

many people are still getting confused with artificial intelligence and machine consciousness..

  • Dr. Hawkins rocks!

  • His work is awesome, the only downside is this will be a nightmare for CAPTCHA technology.

"Will be good at what humans can recognize but computers cannot" the PRECISE thing CAPTCHA is used for to prevent bots from signing up to mass mail for example.

  • @PornoSatan I guess we'll just have to have people compose a sonnet instead.

  • very informative. thank u for posting.

  • never mind, found it on numenta website

  • 34:30 what website did he say you could download the program off from? My pattern recognition hardware did not get that name.

  • lm-fao pattern recognition hardware

  • I'm glad i'm still 20, and the world will drastically change in my lifetime.

Jeff is one of those historical figures, it seems

  • @batukhan

...till the machine takes your job

  • @IceyGrooves ...and invents prosperity linear to peaceful time.

  • This is interesting. Doing beyond algorithmical approach in problem-solving. I had these ideas myself, though not as clear as all that.

I wonder how many people could watch and understand this video, and whether we will need a new terminology for computer science soon, because the current language does more to obfuscate the general picture then it does to explain the details.
