  • Dundalk here... Not as impressive :)

  • This song is simply about the Matchmaking festival in Lisdoonvarna. People travel from far distances in Europe to attend this Event. I Heard this song live last night acapella. He told us the Chorus and did the verses solo. Hearing an actual Irish fellow sing this live and intimate is truly transformational

  • Tell you what, you can a fuckin unreal plate of sausage and mash in the restaurant shown at 4:02. It's across from the centra in Lisdoonvarna! :D

  • @culzo89 No centra in lisdoonvarna! Spar? Mace? The bar shown is Nellies/The Ravine.

  • @clavery1234 im irish and i want a 32 county republic

  • Fuck up about this republicain shit yes im irish and i would like to have a united ireland, but at this moment in time Southern Ireland can just support its self. id rather drain england money than waste the euro. Think about it that way

  • @clavery1234 english money ^^^^

  • FUCKING CLASS

  • a cousin of mine goes pot-hole'n...

  • Wow, the famous tradition of Irish lyricism put on fine display by Christy Moore!

  • he is so handsom and single but he is a father naneedj.info

  • bloking2003 you free stater WANKER. IRA...not the old freestater pricks, the good ones that kept up the fight

    BRITS OUT OF IRELAND!

    Great song.

  • Yeh, great song, but wake up - the war's over. The nationalists lost. And that's coming from a republican.@rorymullan

  • @StonefieldJim4 sorry, but you have no idea what you are talking about.

The nationalists lost, coming from a republican? First of all, republicanism is a branch of nationalism, so why are you making it out like you are not a nationalist?

Second point is, the Provos didn't lose, a believe they agrred to a ceasfire and the main parties met in the middle with a compromise. If they lost, then so did Collins and the rest of the old IRA in 1921...

  • Capitulation to British imperialism is losing: Collins, de Valera, and the rest@dkr56. This is not a condemnation, but rather a sober assessment of the facts. Describing myself as a republican is not an expression of blind faith in 'the old ways' (which would, of course, contradict my remark about the war being over), but a statement of loyalty to the argument that the division of Ireland remains the fundamental problem.

  • westbelfast100 scum keep your ira shite and f off

  • Hola to all in Lisdoonvarna,

    from Johnny Keogh in Frigiliana

it's a long, long way from Clare to here,

but the sun's still shining and the water's clear,

the weather is great but if its music you seek,

then head down to Lisdoon, any day of the week...

    Oh Lisdoonvarna..........

  • New York here

  • I love Christi, nice Irish music...from Greece

  • Does anyone not seemto know that the song is not about Lisdoonvarna match making but about a folk/rock festival that took place between 1978 and 1983?It wasn't in Lisdoon but in nearby Doolin which was less known at the time.I went there twice in 81 and 83 when Van Morisson and Galagher played there. It was wild enough and the last festival was marred by a lot of violence(which would never happen at sanitised Oxegen). It was chaotic enough and had little or no security.Great crack mind you.

  • @hartsty Willie Clancy Festival in Miltown Malbay maybe.

  • @hartsty last festival was finished off by the multiple deaths on a nearby beach , I believe was on the sunday afternoon. was there in 82, Spain won world cup on Sunday. The levels of drunkeness were not made aware to me at the time, I was the drunkest there. 15 pints & a bokkle of Vodka before I even got there. I was to drunk to drink any more after I arrived. spent the whole night in the square, near broke & never got back to the site, me friend said he'd a blue tent & I had bubble vision!

  • @hartsty the festival was actually in lisdoon for the first few yrs then it was moved to doolin and this song was wrote about the festival when it was in lisdoon

  • When I discovered Irish music,I went mad and tried to listen to everything at once.

I became delerious with joy, but managed to take in what everyone else was saying.

"Christy Moore is the greatest living Irish man",they all said.

I bought his "best of" album.

I found nought to argue with.

He is indeed the greatest living Irishman.

Long may he continue to be!.

  • ah what a legend in the making!

  • what county is that tree stump in?

  • Lisdoonvarna has a famour batchelors festival every year when many women (a lot of Americans) descend on Lisdoon in search of a strapping Irishman. Not sure how they feel when the batchelor sheep farmers descend from the mountains in search of a "ride". Wonderful innocent place where you'll split your sides laughing, and the Guiness tastes better there too!

  • Great sounds a lovely place must visit

  • It isn't.

  • I suppose it's ok if you don't live there and are just passing through as a tourist.

  • Went to Lisdoonvarna quite a few years ago. A desolate place. Still I'd rather be there than here in The Netherlands.....

Maybe I should try my luck there in September ;-)

  • if you went to Lisdoonvarne and it was a desolete place, why go back?

  • Can you not read? I said: I'd still be there than where I am now. BTW: Lisdoonvarna is also known for its matchmaking festival in September. Which is why I said I might try my luck in September. So it will not be desolate then. And since I'm a woman, I might even get a chance in finding an Irish man there. (wink wink, nudge, nudge)

  • can i join you in finding our irishman ..nudge nudge ..never been in Lisdoonvarne ...

  • Christy, you are great! Lisdoonvarna deserves the song! The musical talent I found in the townspeople, playin' and singin' at Curtin's Roadside Tavern was something I'll always remember. It was late July and it was wonderful...not to mention the Guiness!
