This is a great movie what people do not understand that this is one of the First movies made from a COMIC so yea plenty of what seems wooden acting,But its Filmed as if the movie were a COMIC.
i love this movie, it's dark and has a lot of violence in it.that's what the punisher is. i have no problem with this film.thought that dolph did an excellent job and the movie also had a great actor in louis gossett jr. who played his former partner and best friend. i really thought the ending to film was very cool.some of these kinds of movies from the late 80's and 90's got a bad wrap.

MAXPunisher Frank Castle is 63-64 years old (and recently lost a pinky, he's really fucked up right now, but he just killed Bullseye, got smashed to shit, went to jail in a bodycast, nearly got blown to bits by a grenade, escaped jail and immedietly with no weapons assaulted the Kingpin and started his war again living homeless, so right now he's closer to this depicition of the Punisher than ever before)
As one of the biggest Punisher fans ever I love this film except for the fact they made him a weird psycho living in the sewers naked half the time. Would it have been so hard to put the skull on his shirt and make him live in a warehouse like he usually does? If they had gotten Dolph back for Punisher: War Zone, expanded the movie by 20-30 minutes, and brought in Barracuda it would've been getting a sequel I bet. Dolph should still be doing Frank, hell, he's actually YOUNGER than Max Frank
Pretty solid film imo and I'm a 90's-baby watching this for the first time. Some pretty good action, interesting concepts and overall atmosphere. I think they could have got rid of Pun's eccentric sidekick tho. I think this story would probably have worked better in a graphic novel especially with the stark colours present in the film. Overall I'd say 6.8 out of 10. Personally I prefer the 2004 film with Thomas Jane which I'd give 7.5 out of 10. Still enjoyed this 80's verision though. Peace.
Dolph was born to play the Punisher...the way he played that stubborn, don't give a damn attitude...classic Punisher. Now that im older i see this film was made with a vision...rather than the new films the 2004 film has him as a florida agent and hokey villians. the new film gave him a joker knockoff. The action was totally ridiculous and the lighting for some reason was purple....come on

damn, it´s the 1st time i watched this and i must say this is closer to the original Marvel comics than the new Punisher movies, tha atmosphere is so tight and Lundgren is playing this broken, obsessed character really well, he´s not such a bad actor after all.

IN every Punisher movie that followed, what was missing was Dolf Lundgren's portrayal of Frank Castle as a traumatized, vengence obsessed anti-hero which was true to the spirit of the character written by Marvel Comics. His was a tragic black-and-white existence of punishing criminals who were above the law to ultimately obtain a purposeful end to his lonely life of suffering.
This movie is good the main problem was the budget written by Boaz Yakin of Fresh, should have been shot in NYC but due buidget Australia. The first comic book movie by Marvel with adult theme, pity the Punisher logo wasn't utilised in the movie. An original story Italian Mafia vs Yakuza perfect, if your a fan look for deleted scenes approx 40 minutes missing.

@ihatefurrys I thought this one was much better, The Punisher doesn't seem invincible in it. The story behind why he became The Punisher was shown in the Travolta version, but in this one overall he was more of a believable character, imo.

I'm not familiar with this character and some things don't add up; HOW does The Punisher get cash to buy food and guns and gasoline for his motorcycle? How does he buy food? Won't he be recognized in public? Even if he collects guns from his fallen foes, I don't think he would be plundering their fridges!
