Why these songs didn't get the airplay? Bad Pd's at radio..period..Rhythmic radio was about the only place to hear these songs. If you didn't live in a bigger city..then forget hearing them on a CHR formatted station. It wasn't like it is now, where non-rhythmic music is the exception rather than the general rule..B'ham,al had a rhythmic station that wasn't strictly r&b/soul that played freestyle, house, crossover type stuff, but didn't last due to bad PD's and personnel changes..
You can also factor in that Pd's were too conservative..If rock dominated top 40 stations didn't want to give your music airime and r&b stations didn't want to either..then if you were a freestyle artist(cover girls) or other not easily marginalized into a specific format (judson spence, kevin paige), then you were out of luck in most areas of the country. That was then this is now..Pd's at Pop CHR radio know the deal now and make rhythmic the rule rather than the exception..
Nice beat & loved the older Lincoln with the suicide doors, which takes me back some years, well, actually decades as far as the car is concerned, lol
