  • Soulsister, your mother and this song were made for each other, no-one will ever sing this song the way she did. I first heard this song when I was 17, 33 years ago, my first love had cheated on me, got someone pregnant and married her, I watched him get in the wedding car from my bedroom window, I was crushed. I put this record on the player, left the arm across and played loud, I cried so long, he was my man and she had him, this song still takes me back to that time, R.I.P Yvonne and thankyou

  • soulsisteronthe1 you must be so proud of your mother. She sings this with so much feeling you feel as if you're living it with her.

  • Ï remember hearing this song on a swedish soul radio programme in the 70's...i thought to myself..not dancaable and no funky rhythm...but maybe i listen to it one more time....i did and i did and then it become one of me favo songs...i listened to all versions i ever come across BUT the feeling Yvonne Fair sings with will never ever be better....sorry to hear about your mother....she will live forever for all her work and especially this song

  • WOW!! she's great,i knew Yvonne when she was a young girl we lived on the same street Longwood ave,So.Bronx.I was singing with a group then (my teenage years) I did'nt know that she could sing she sounds great...R.I.P. yes I remember you and your family.Soulsisteronthe1 the blessings of the Lord be on you and your family..

  • great song at discos long ago remembering old friends when i hear this song u know it should have been me dwag gwan thief

  • Yvonne Fair is my Mother,James Brown is my father. She filmed this about a yr before she passed away. I miss her so much i'am so glad that i can bring her back to life whenever i'm lonely for her. March 3rd 1994 She lost her battle to Cancer at the tender age of 51. Long live Yvonne Fair a true DIVA!

  • @soulsisteronthe1 Thank you for your post soulsisteronthe1 . How lovely to hear from you. I`m pleased you have happy memories of your mother, one of the few true deep soul divas. Over 30,000 people have viewed this video!! RIP Yvonne. Fair lady indeed.

  • FABULOUS, I LOVE THIS, TAKES ME BACK MANY YEARS, ME AND FRIENDS USED TO SIT IN EACH OTHERS BEDROOMS AND BRING ALL OUR 45s AND PLAY MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG XX

  • Is so easy to go over with this type of singing. Yet she never does. AMAZING!

  • did she say "somebody call the police", Still love Gladys & Pips version.

  • @higgybaby1 yeah lol "somebody call the police, that woman down there is a god damned thief" lol

  • Unreal. The talent, the emotions. Yvonne Fair was one of the best. She is missed by this fan. Rest in peace...Hugs.

  • No covers can or will ever beat this !! Gladys and other followed Yvonne led !!!

  • I wouldn't even bother listening to any covers of this. You cannot top this, you can only come in 2nd This is perfection at the highest level. Reminds me of that freezing London winter of 75/76 Cheers Mezzoman

  • I love this version!

  • one brilliant song thanks for posting

  • She shure gave this song her all and deservedly so too..love this version, of all versions..... bless you sweet voice 4 singing it the way it should be sung....and many thanx 2 the uploader 4 sharing....

  • Bless her... What a voice....

  • Bless her...

  • ubicomp i agree with you glady's version is better

  • "No Gladys it should've been me!!!" LMAO!

  • Glady's version better? No way ubicomp. You need to clean out your ears. I love Gladys but she didnt capture the emotion the way Yvonne Fair did. Each to their own I guess.

  • love this song!!! best version ever!!

  • I think shes screaming out her emotions and feelings, which is what a woman would do if that man of hers got away.........just my opinion

  • She's a good screamer. Gladys did it way better tho.

  • Used to watch a drag queen sing this, in the 70s...awesome voice!

  • amazing vocal, superb song.. nothing to add other than utterly brilliant

  • She is the one and only to sing this song. Everything she did was the best. This videio is of her at an older age but she still has the voice of when it came out in the 1970's.

  • What a " STAR & SINGER!" Truly missed....

  • Back in the day, she recorded the vocal in one take and that's what makes it so incendiary!

  • Much as I love Kim westons original & Gladys Knight & The Pips update, this is the one for me..Paulo xx

  • spot on she does own it

  • stunning!

  • Never was a lyric delivered with such intensity. She was fabulous!! Yvonne Fair ,,,still sorely missed!

  • @bazzbazzley Actually, Gladys Knight also does this song justice. Listen to Gladys sing "If I Was Your Woman" you'll hear the same intensity...but then, it's all a matter of personal opinion.

  • absolute classic

  • after a recent splitt with my girl friend i played this song god was i so wrong to let her go this lady owns this song no one better

  • i lov this women i'm 50 now and it still sends chills down my spin

  • I have heard others sing this song. This lady doesn't just sing the song , she owns it. Absolutely fabulous.

  • you should see whta the vicar of dibley does to this with richard armitage.LOL

  • it should of been meeeeeeeeee lol

  • Is this the official music video. It looks too new for the 70's?

  • the weird thing is that I watched the video and I don't know a thing about her but I could tell she had died a while ago without even checking

  • Undisclosed causes, looks like a brain tumour to me.

  • @MickeyLove01 no one knows its never been disclosed

  • @paulhamerton1 it says on wikipedia;

Yvonne Fair died, aged 51, from undisclosed causes, in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 6, 1994.

Not that I like to use that as a source but that's what it says. I think you didn't read what I said properly though.

  • @MickeyLove01 i did read mate as i said no one has officially disclosed the cause of her sad death i loved her voice

  • @paulhamerton1 I said undiscolsed causes, the brain tumour was opinion. But then again i can see things others cannot.

  • @MickeyLove01 but rumours are just rumours or opinions as its never officially been announced speculation isnt great

  • @paulhamerton1 I'm just going to watch some paint dry.

  • @MickeyLove01 then you can bore that with your guesswork

  • @paulhamerton1 That's right, but between giving you the attention you crave so much and watching paint dry, there's only one winner.

  • @MickeyLove01 no just want facts not stupid rumours so easy

  • why was she at the church??? ps r i p yvonne fair what a voice you had my fav song when i was 15 xxx

  • straight into heart

  • love her voice, not heard this 4 yrs
