  • Could someone tell me more about this girl? I want to do my English Paper on her but I can't find any information on her.

  • "He will never marry her" the translator tells me after we have been driving for a few minutes in the dark, "Yes" I say, "But he can love her" <3

  • every time I watch her, I don't realise it, but a tear trickles down my cheek. she moves me.

  • Everytime I watch her perform and listen to her musical voice block out all painful noise my lungs detest. Not because the air is polluted but because every thought is to listen, to grasp her words and bury them deep with in my mind and somehow my brain forgot to tell me to breathe.

  • This made me cry.

  • im officially obsessed to her!

  • i just want to hug her. forever.

  • How old is she?

  • @JayM4HIM She is 22

  • @speakeasynyc and I, being 21, feel so far behind.

  • Sarah is truly inspirational. I'm trying to improve my poetry just to sound more professional like her.

  • "God taking photographs" gosh, listening to it I basically want to quote every single word she says. She is sooo brilliant♥.

  • Incredible...simply incredible. I only wish there was a form of expression that fit myself quite as well as spoken word poetry suits Sarah. If at sometime you read this Sarah Kay, keep up the wonderful, inspirational and insightful work. Truly, you are doing exactly what you were put here to do. That is not to necessarily write and speak poetry, but rather to touch us all on a very profound and spiritual level. I feel enriched having heard your talent, and for this I thank you!!!

  • shes omg awsome

  • Much better watched than read!

  • She is now DEFENITLY my favorite poet!

  • i like the way he stands behind his mother while she's working

not so much to insist on helping her but just to let her feel his presence

incase she needs someone to reach for something on the top shelf

  • Yes! I'm not the only one who thinks that peacocks sound like cats!

  • "sometimes i wake up with a black hole on my chest"

  • I love the way you write! It makes me want to cry. In a good way lol

  • sarah kay,,,, a figment of undamaged truth speaks the truth...this truth is the love that we all should disperse from our heart.... this love, you see, does not posses a carnal quality within it; rather, a spiritual quality beaming from the depths of benevolence...

when i hear this sarah, i think of Christ. many may not take an advocating stand on my side on this. but i know in my heart that this is the truth...thank you sarah....this has definitely inspired me

  • I wish there was a super favorite button

  • this comes off more as a slightly literary story than "poetry"

    just sayin

  • "Rickshaw named Desire". Great one.

  • Sarah Kay, I have an artist crush on you. That is all :P

  • I stumbled upon her by watching TED and her poems hit me in the heart or the gut- I can't figure out which. She is one of "those" people you see and you instantly KNOW they have this great, unspoken (ironic) talented presence about them. Glad I stayed up procrastinating to find this.

  • Very beautifully written, I sometimes wish that I wasn't so ignorant of poetry, since her voice and inspirations make me want to speak in the exact same manner with passion.

  • how does she do this. shes so talented !!!!!

  • she is awesome!!!

  • hehe "felix the spider" :P ily sara. ur the funniest RA ever ;)

    ur cty kid,

    kelly r <3

  • Sarah Kay is my idol.

  • does this poem have a underlying meaning to it?

I know it does but i feel like im missing it .

  • this one made me cry. absolutely amazing.

    sarah is the peacock's meow!

  • Shes brilliant..i know a lot of it is just original talent..but how does one get to that sort of talent at such a young age? Ive been totally ignorant to poeetry, but could sum1 give me a names of some books I could read on this sort of poetry or sumthing? because im guessing you get better at poetry by immersing yourself in it, and shes kinda inspired me, if not to start writing, then at least to appreciate more poetry out there. Any help would be great..thanks ^^

  • This type of poetry is called "Spoken Word" poetry, so in my opinion, it is better watched than read. Besides the poets posted on this speakeasynyc site, i should refer you the the urbananyc site which also has great poets performing. Please also check out the most famous of the spoken word venues; the Def Poetry series. Google that, and you can see fantastic performances by young & old, male & female, black & white. Enjoy the ride & thanks for viewing.

  • Yes, this is Spoken Word poetry, but a good way to start anyway would be reading though and understanding all the elements presented in The Ode Less Travelled by Steven Fry. It's a form book, but does great introductory exercises for rhyme, meter, and other basic poetic elements to help you.

If you want to go further into Spoken Word poetry after, I recommend finding communities that will help critique, learn from and edit your poetry online. There're tons if you know where to look. Good luck.

  • i am IN LOVE with this girl! well, poetically, anyway. ;)

so vulnerable and soft, but not fragile.

she reminds me of a part of one of Nikky Finney's poems:

"How you do that, write like you never been hit before?"

certainly she's experienced pain and loss, but she writes as someone completely whole and undamaged. i'm inspired to seek that voice in myself.

  • @laroixhaos Well said :)

  • Goosebumps!
