  • i use to do it and my hand hurt sooo bad after, don't do this cuz it will damage not only your stroke but your hand as well

  • I wanna go play some tennis!

  • won't the thumb behind increase tennis elbow?

  • @lakesideslide, the thumb is simply the first step in the series. What this drill does is keep the hand close to the ball and insures good contact. It also gets the person in a "good" backhand grip. Thanks for your comment.

  • @lakesideslide It may seem a bit uncomfortable at first but you will get use to it. The important part of the "thumb print" backhand drill is to minimize the backswing, feel the "power position" with the racquet and hitting arm and to "find" the ball out in front.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • very good tip. I'll try it.

  • ill try to do that the next time i play tenis

  • you and oscar make tennis so much easier for us. thank you

  • but how do ppl really have trouble getting power with one hand? its more flexibility.

  • Well, if you don't hold it properly, it sucks. If your explosive, pocess great power in your legs and back, of course you will love this stroke, but if your weaker and not peculiarly efficient in explosivness, you will hate this stroke.

It requires a great amount of coordination and a sudden release. Again fluidity, coordination and explosivness. You need to do it right or it will be very weak.

This is why people prefer two hands; it's way easier to control. But, yet, way less effective.

  • @GueorguiJoukov but i thought 2 hand backhand have more power than one hand backhand? why is two handback less effective?

  • This is part of Oscar Wegner's method

  • thx man I'll try this out

  • very thoughtful technique...

  • Very very nice tip! Im going to use it to teach for sure! It will be a easier transicion to the actual right racket position!

  • interesting, thanks

  • very good...
