Here Saitoti's fault lies in the numerous failures in disaster response. Health Minister Beth Mugo, a woman, standing right there beside Lucy, is the one who should be grilled on issues considered a health hazard and the lack of emergency medical facilities. Don't bring up sexism mama when clearly that is not the issue here!

You people need to take some time and look into Lucy's heart instead of all the unnecessary bashing . She may not have the etiquette or the prowess to deliver a moving and perfect speech but she is speaking from her heart . She is visibly upset and unlike her hubby who never seems to display any kind of emotions , she has touched on issues that should have been addressed by the govt. years ago . Such as civic education to the rural folk on the dangers of siphoning gas . Give her a break ppl
Lucy demonstrates a serious deficiency in etiquette, she can't open her mouth to the media without embarrassing herself. This was an opportunity for her to redeem her image, by genuinely condoling with the affected victims of the tragedy and their families, and kindly call upon the relevant ministries to confront their failings and take corrective actions. She should stop wielding legally nonexistent powers and concentrate on using her influence to improve kenyan lives.
No one tribe is special. We're Kenyans first and foremost.A dead Kikuyu, Luo,Kalenjin, Ndorobo are all same in the eyes of God.Those who think their tribes are special are the peddlers of tribalism, greed, nepotism and theft of the public coffers. They steal, grab land, employ their kin, kill others to resist change. They leave in other peoples land and cannot accept others to do so on their land. They vote for none other apart from their tribesmen. They use others as stepping stones to power.Tribe?
I am so proud of mama lucy! why do we choose people who have continually shown us that they cannot do the job?Do you remember musikari kombo appeared shamelessly on TV with a gold watch on each hand? he was showing you proudly what he does with your hard earned money! we need to get our legal system together. what are the thousands of lawyers who have graduated from nairobi university doing? by the way, what happend to the policeman who killed the former MPs son? did he get away with MURDER?
Increasingly, it became difficult for itizens outside Mt Kenya to be served without first giving bribes. Under Moi, the situation deteriorated further when cartels from the Kalenjin emerged with the sole aim of displacing the Kikuyu from the centre of political and economic power. When Kibaki took power, the deadly cells of corruption from the Mt Kenya were, ostensibly, resurrected to reclaim their former positions. For the past 6 yrs, these cartels have been view with various corruption scandals
you are either a big idiot or just plain ignorant if what you say is true why are the luos in kibera that voted odm still living in filth... eeeh i suppose that is the kikuyu's fault alll kenyans that have no morals are very corrupt there is alot of things to say about other tribe like theft murder and sooo on but i wont forcus ma energy on that id rather point out where we all as a country are going wrong.
before moi kenya was respectebla after moi ruling kenya for the longest in kenyan
the molo area was predominantly a kikuyu area and maasai roamed it same as burnt forest now its been slowly stolen from these people who bought the land legally by clashes during mois era and they continue to extinguish kikuyus. nandi and baringo and such area s are kalenjins ancetral lands. ma grand moter land was stolen from her and they had bought it square from the whites. so i know. you hate kikuyus cause we encourage education and progress withing our families yet otehr tribes do the same

you people need to see her whole statement..i have never liked the first lady but after her statement yesterday i like her alot..she has a very huge point in what the country is facing..hunger,this 2 tragedies and security..read nation
i totally agree wit the 1st lady..i mean this was a crisis y wud u jus say "u never learn"..instead of saying tht he shud hav atleast cme up with an idea of eduacting people in the rural about the dangers of petrol..and im soo dissappointed in his response to these tragedies..u are supposed to be there immediately tryig to figure out what happened
I say someone kick our butts... we should rise up against those hyenas who have stolen all our wealth. Amos Wako. George Saitoti. Mwai Kibaki. William Ruto. Amos Kimunya. Nicholas Biwott. Daniel Moi. Etc. They all bear responsibility for our desperation. But we are so foolish.. we blame God and the Devil. But God and the Devil are innocent. We have the thieves amond us. We support them.
Lucy Kibaki, How do you feel about sharing power with Odingas? Do you think this was a good idea now that they have started to steal too with Hon. Ruto and others in there? Lastly what did you expect Hon. Saitoti to do? Don't you know he is a professor by training and sometimes he has to do what he has to do? Did you know stealing is bad especially from free gas tanker? What makes you come out now and make noise when many people died last year? Aren't a shamed? Where is mungiki at this time?
... And two days later in Nakuru a tanker tipped over and the residents scrambled for the spilled oil oblivious of the danger of explotion. I now doubt if civic education alone would help the people from a future disaster. I think POVERTY has a lot to do with this absurd behaviour. It appears poverty has transformed some people into opportunists. Whenever they're in a position to get free stuff they go for it irrationally. The civic education from the politicians is STEAL like we do but die.
This lady should not be allowed to speak to the press, she should be banned completely. not only she embarased the Prof Saitoti but also her husband by critizing a minister who is her husband ally. Mama ruzi did u 4get quick enough what u did to nation camera men?
no doubt she has a point about basic civic education but the delivery leaves us wanting! Its biting poverty that drove those unfortunate souls to siphone gas, thats the main issue. Politicians start paying taxes so Kenyans can live in dignity!
Wakenya habari zenu !!! first who doesn't know oil and fire don't go together, these were adults with basic education, saitoti said the truth no matter how much it hurts,a hard head makes a roasted arsse,Lucy advice you husband to run the country vizuri, fire them then he himself should allow for proper elections if he has the heart,if not just run the country well, act as a leader... bana !!!
things that make me go "wow"...jameni kenya yetu ina vitimbi...Stop the blame game and do something lady....maze wakenya pliz nxt elections lets just vote new blood...maneno ya wazae hapana coz they dont even care about the country, taxpayers &infrastructure...is somebody listening...lets atleast make sure that all these white hair goes away...pliiiz guys...thats the only way kenya will start developing...
Maybe she didn't relay the message in the most politcally correct way, but if u filter the good from the bad, she has a point. One thing is for certain though, followers blame leaders, great leaders eat the blame..
Well said, but what I read in the East African Standard that she is waiting for an explanation in writing from the Interior Ministry and the Provincial Administration with regard to their civic education efforts or lack thereof is laughable. She can't talk without embarrassing herself by wielding legally nonexistent authority. She is such a gadfly.
absolute bollocks ,there are virtually no roads in kenyaand i was wondering when i read that there was no single fire exit in nakumat when the inferno happened.this country suffers from lack of proper leadrs n policies
public humiliation hits the spot ,i was shocked to see one fire truck outside nakumatt .if one was handed the role of internal security he or she should step up and do the job period trying to get a photo shot after the tragedy isn`t part of the job saitoti
I don't think it's fair to blame one person for this whole thing. This is the country's responsibility as a whole, moreso the government. Those in power are too busy lining up their pockets to care about the welfare of the common mwananchi. While it wouldn't make sense to most people I totally understand why those people chose to go out and get some of the spilled oil/petrol -- the country's experiencing oil shortages, and many make less than $1 or $2 a day... it is indeed a sad tragedy
Lucy is absolutely right, we need more people like Lucy to keep the government at its toe so they perform the services that they are elected to do as members of parliament
Where are u living in?Lucy is part of the Govt, she has a husband earning more than Gordon Brown or Obama, she gets 8,000 USD per month, taxfree.Michelle Obama isnt getting anything. If she was for the mwananchi she would have advocated for reforms.
Ur highness russy '' ur husbands govmnt doesnt not have any regards for health and safety regulations in the workplace....mayb u shld nominate ur self as a health safety administrator.....then u can may b save life's of innocent wanainchi.....i say ''thank God their not many Russy's running the world......lol
She is right, Kenyans need civic education. The government has neglected its duty on teaching and informing the public of the basic health and safety regulations. Lets not wait for accidents and disasters to happen before we act.
u sound like Ruto preparing to take over a kikuyu farm in Eldoret after elections....r u happy now? He is headed straight to the Hague with his buddies....watch this space...
on the other side its poverty which makes somebody to risk his life for a few shillings if people a well of and have there basic needs why should they risk there life for a few cents ,FIGHT POVERTY NOT THE RESULTS OF POVERTY !!!!
hut ab !! mylady i think women should takeover the men a busy looting, but madam with due respect dont you look in the mirror b4 u go out u look like they d thrown u out of bed.
Very true what the first lady is saying, i agree with her. She's not pinpointing or accusing anyone but when will Kenyans learn esp the gorv since the tragedy of 1998 in sindindi. Kenyans are not proud of whats going on in the institutes and ministries in kenya. Police and GSU not doing their work becoz are not paid well so they take opportunities like bribes. God bless Kenya
what are you drinking Mrs. Lucy Kibaki? Don't u know Saitoti is a proffessor. He wanted them (Kikuyus) to learn a lesson right there. I mean stealing is bad. You guys have been stealing for so long. It's about time!
True he is proffessor in goldenburg faculty among others, that fights economic crimes. F.Y.I. i'm a kyuk, hustle day in day out & never stole. I don't have to defend the whole community if only we could minimize such ignorant comments.
That's good. Then why can't you teach ur fellow tribes men not to steal. What are you gonna do with Kibaki, Kimunya, Murungaru, lucy, Njoroge, Kamau, Njeri, Chebe, Muthiti, Uhuru, and who god knows who etc. This tribe has become a big liability to the fellow kenyans around the globe. I'm ashamed to be associated with them. We can't wait when Kibaki will resign.
Raila wants to earn just as much is Kibaki,3.2 Mill USD a month,Ruto has been stealing since God knows when,Moi same.Kalonzo´s salary can pay Joe Bidden and leave extra change.Orengo was shouting Justice, now he´s quiet. Was Pattni a Kikuyu?Ole Ntimama?Sunkuli? This is pure Tribalism.
The whole tribe has problems. They steal anything and everywhere including in the churches. These people have no shame. All they can think of is the amount of money they can take. I'm ashamed to be associated with them.
stop lying to yourself fellow kenyan and face the truth kenyan are all corrupt kalenjins have been stealing for years and no one said anything. the leaders that are in government currently (odm )have demonstrated this very clearly. everyone was like odm will save us they are the truth soon after they were elected and their pockets were filled what comes next ? eeh? hunger growing number of slum dwellers, displaced idp's silencing of media by Pm ati they are against him same dude who said they
had a right to keep the government in check KENYAN WE NEED TO VOTE NEW BLOOOD ALLL THESE PEOPLE NEED TO GO THEY ARE ALL CORRUPT WETHER DIRECTLY OR IN ASSOSSIATION . kenya like other progressive countries needs new blood to make it in the future
Kenyattas deliberate Kikuyunisation of the Public Service hoodwinked the people of the Mt Kenya region to look at themselves as a special breed of citizens. Besides, the Gema community was misled to nurture a false sense of entitlement to virtually all the opportunities and resources of the nation. Consequently, Gema operatives established corrupt cartels which regulated the distribution of the countrys resources and employment opportunities.
am not ashamed of ma tribe i am a special bred cause of ma tribe just as you think of your tribe. and you are wrong about the public service its dominated by kalejins and luos that is why its sooo inefficient and run down. look at the army, police, town planners etc eeeh? are you truely that ignorant.........
Kibaki songa kando wachia kiti bibi, tunaona Rucy anabonga sense kukushinda wewe. Amos Wako, Saitoti, Ruto, Murungi. Makwere, Namwamba should all resign immediately. I wll watch 8pm news waiting to see their barua za kujiuzulu. Hawa wazee wanatumada sisi WaKenya.
My dream gava Martha karua shift to security, Unita Kidula justice na constitution, Raychelle Omamo replace Amos Wako aka Headmaster wa ufisadi, Michuki arudi kwa Roads na Maathai environment, Tuju apewe public works.
The First Lady is Right. In public policy, you can delegate authority, but you can never delegate responsibility. Our so-called leaders have to take responsibility for the failures ongoing presently.
I concur with you mama Lucy. Politicans need to do civic education and put policies that will help protect the lives of Kenyans as well as emergency preparedeness. Prof Saitoti, those words you spoke were misplaced and i demand that you RESIGN. This is a serious sign of irresponsibility. These people are ignorant and they need to be tought what is obvious to you-that petrol is deadly.
You may not like Lucy's ways of handling her business but I appreciate her coming forward in this manner. Someone needs to speak up against these self-serving ministers. Stealing AIDS money, stealing maize while the pple go hungry and allowing IDPs to languish in the wilderness while they persue their selfish ambitions is a very worrying trend by this government.
What Mrs Kibaki is saying is very true!! Saitoti didn't help the pple with his comment! What they need is someone to educate them on the dangers that petrol can cause! Since they don't have this knowledge, they would run to the next trailer that overturns, cigarrettes in their mouths, to tap some petrol!
Sorry for the Kenyans who suffered thru the inferno BUT Mami should understand that in house u don't blame/accuse the boy when a bad incident occurs, the Father is to blame for not teaching his child good habits!! Kibaki should know one of his boys is making Mami angry
I don't care you people say, this woman is not psycho. Mama rusi you are the best.I wish Saitoti was near her so that he could some spanking from mama
what is Lucy Kibaki doing in Molo? Does she need free gas too? Why did she slap imanyara and yule Mkamba mmoja in the state house? Is she planning to get away with it? Hey Lucy, we need some free money, gas and soda.....

The whole tribe has problems. They steal anything and everywhere including in the churches. These people have no shame. All they can think of is the amount of money they can take. I'm ashamed to be associated with them.

First Lady. PEOPLE (a word strange to our leaders until election time) have died.
Name calling and blame shifting to subordinates is not a mark of true leadership it brings division in the camp.
The biggest Youth Movement is at hand. 900,865 strong and counting
ONE VOICE, ONE PEOPLE, ONE AGENDA.
2012 Youth MTA-DO? 1428 days to go. 1428 reasons to Impact a life today. It's your patriotic duty as a Kenyan

These people are ignorant and they need to be tought what is obvious to you-that petrol is deadly.
kangetaman1975 3 years ago 2
You may not like Lucy's ways of handling her business but I appreciate her coming forward in this manner. Someone needs to speak up against these self-serving ministers. Stealing AIDS money, stealing maize while the pple go hungry and allowing IDPs to languish in the wilderness while they persue their selfish ambitions is a very worrying trend by this government.

My apologise to all those that lost there lives..mama Lucy is right...Saitoti is useless..she may not be as articulate but she makes a good point.
