Highest respect for you my friend for saying it like it is. I am an automotive mechanic and an ex Chevy guy. I own 2 Camrys (200,000 & 300,000 KMs) and a 1986 Toyota4x4.... amazingly reliable, low maintenance vehicles. Anybody who owns one will never go back to that North American junk.

Well the problem was that Toyota previously wasn't recalling cars, even if they knew tan automobile had serious problems. I believe that was part of the investigation. The allegations were probably true, seeing as how Toyota recalled 7.1 milking vehicles this year, and they weren't all for pedal issues either. Toyota still makes great cars, but why should we apologize for their mistakes?

Every single one had the same transmission and fuel pump problems. From 80's though 2000 same problem but it was never addressed by GM. Why? Because they pay UAW too much so they have to cut cost some where.

When I lived in Detroit, a rumor was going about between Japanese that US government retaliates against TOYOTA, because TOYOTA overtook GM's sales and GM went bankrupt. I heard about the rumor three or four months before the recall.
I'd like to point out that the issue with the Toyota Prius doesn't mean toyota is unreliable. The pedal in the Toyota Prius is american made. I know how news agencies spent many hours covering the accidents caused by the faulty pedal. One thing they didn't spend much time on is the newscast I witnessed where american cars are also being recalled for having the same american made pedal and the same problem.

American motor companies are jumping on the electric steering bandwagon as well. Chevy cobalt The cobalt handl;es extremely poorly like the corola and the focus will as well. Electric steering produces some of the worst handling cars. Amazingly bad road handling.
The Electric Steering in these Toyota cars is extremely bad. The new Corolla with electric power steering has dangerously bad road handling issues. I cannot stress in words how badly these cars handle on the road. Toyota's spokesmen lie about the problem and they are ignoring this problem because there is no fix for it. The problem is the steering system itself. Toyota cannot afford to do what is right and that is to repurchase these awful cars from customers who bought them in good faith.
oh... and most of these crashes were either staged or caused by human error. The government just over exaggerated it. It sort of reminds me of how the British ruled the tea companies back in the mid to 1700's. They used their political power to close down all of the other tea companies until there was just one government owned one left... and look what happened.
NHTSA showed a result of electric fuel injector, Aug. 10th. The result is Toyota's is no probrem. Now, everybody can understand what happend at that time. Yes, they did wrong drive.
True GM has issued a lot of recalls, GM and most other American automobile manufactures issue a recall after about 200 complaints. The issues with Toyota accelerators dates back to 2005, Toyota was clearly neglecting to issue a massive recall for PR reasons, and instead putting their customers safety in jeopardy, because of this Toyota is facing scrutiny. Toyota has faced many law suits in the past for neglecting to issue recalls, example Toyota engine defects that date back to 1995.

The rental tool said to Dan, 'after having this for a week you want a toyota' - what a tool!. I own an 08 taurus (volvo s 80 based). Let me tell you I road in the back seat of that camry and was appalled compared to the back seat ride in my car. The seats are so cheaply padded my butt was starting to go numb after 10 min. the suspension was soft ....

The camry was noisier, and the cheapo use of materials in the interior was terribly obvious- now my 08 taurus' interior is not of lexus materials, but light years better than this camry! The seat foam in the camry was laughable...my seats are so comfortable in the back you could drive accross country and the build quality and ride is light years better than camry. @guinmaan i have an 07 corolla. 108,000 miles. all i put into it was tires, fluids, and brakes. even my clutch is original. now i am a GM and ASE certified tech at a local GM dealer. GM has huge problems with fuel pumps, fuel level sensors,water pumps and coolant crossover gaskets on ur 3.5 and 3.9 L engines( impala, buick lacrosse/lucerne) not to mention a new recall almost every week on EVERY model they make. and these cars are 07 thru 09's!
still doesnt change the fact that toyota built crap for years...other companies have always capitalized on other comapnies failures....just business practices...

The allegations were probably true, seeing as how Toyota recalled 7.1 milking vehicles this year, and they weren't all for pedal issues either. Toyota still makes great cars, but why should we apologize for their mistakes?

Every single one had the same transmission and fuel pump problems. From 80's though 2000 same problem but it was never addressed by GM. Why? Because they pay UAW too much so they have to cut cost some where.

When I lived in Detroit, a rumor was going about between Japanese that US government retaliates against TOYOTA, because TOYOTA overtook GM's sales and GM went bankrupt. I heard about the rumor three or four months before the recall.

I'd like to point out that the issue with the Toyota Prius doesn't mean toyota is unreliable. The pedal in the Toyota Prius is american made. I know how news agencies spent many hours covering the accidents caused by the faulty pedal. One thing they didn't spend much time on is the newscast I witnessed where american cars are also being recalled for having the same american made pedal and the same problem.

I cannot stress in words how badly these cars handle on the road. Toyota's spokesmen lie about the problem and they are ignoring this problem because there is no fix for it. The problem is the steering system itself. Toyota cannot afford to do what is right and that is to repurchase these awful cars from customers who bought them in good faith.

True GM has issued a lot of recalls, GM and most other American automobile manufactures issue a recall after about 200 complaints. The issues with Toyota accelerators dates back to 2005, Toyota was clearly neglecting to issue a massive recall for PR reasons, and instead putting their customers safety in jeopardy, because of this Toyota is facing scrutiny. Toyota has faced many law suits in the past for neglecting to issue recalls, example Toyota engine defects that date back to 1995.

The rental tool said to Dan, 'after having this for a week you want a toyota' - what a tool!. I own an 08 taurus (volvo s 80 based). Let me tell you I road in the back seat of that camry and was appalled compared to the back seat ride in my car. The camry was noisier, and the cheapo use of materials in the interior was terribly obvious- now my 08 taurus' interior is not of lexus materials, but light years better than this camry! The seat foam in the camry was laughable...my seats are so comfortable in the back you could drive accross country and the build quality and ride is light years better than camry. @guinmaan i have an 07 corolla. 108,000 miles. all i put into it was tires, fluids, and brakes. even my clutch is original. now i am a GM and ASE certified tech at a local GM dealer. GM has huge problems with fuel pumps, fuel level sensors,water pumps and coolant crossover gaskets on ur 3.5 and 3.9 L engines( impala, buick lacrosse/lucerne) not to mention a new recall almost every week on EVERY model they make. and these cars are 07 thru 09's!

And this brings us back to the issue of Toyota quality being affected by protectionist parts outsourcing deals with US manufacturers, as well as illiterate workers in states with public schools in shambles. I've never denied that possibility, though the US government (not surprisingly) appears to.

It's a lot like asking me to offer s sunroofed truck for testing without telling me the full details of the testing procedure, only to chortle 24/7 later on how my truck did not do as well on surviving a flip as a domestic hardtop. Germany is a different country after joining the E.U. Japan still has too many ultranationalists, and they hate just about anybody that's not japanese, i don't think they'll ever join something like the E.U. of Asia.

Germany is the EU. No Germany, no EU. The reason there is this whitewashing of German statehood which you so unwittingly parrot has to do with this entire reality. And so, an entire mythology of "deNazification" was created and after only 3 years Germany was already part of a nascent EU.
Germany is the EU, which is reflected in the reality that she is footing the bill for many of the other members. Whether she can afford to do so for another 10 years remains doubtful.

I feel sorry for Toyoda, but can you imagine what would happen if we let U.S. economy fall and not recover? Do you really want China to catch up and surpass the U.S.? U.S. in power is different from Germany, China or Japan in power. We are not at WWIII because U.S. is leading the way. Bullies or not, at least U.S. doesn't try to slaughter or conquer the world.

Spain to Britain to Germany to the United States. Each abused their own power. I stated facts, what the hell you commenting saying i'm brain washed? "Ultranationalism" is an empty expression, a rhetorical device intended to demonise, and thereby attack the right to sovereignty on the part of other states.
Your apologies for Germany are bizarre, but not something I haven't encountered many times before. Apologies were forced upon Germany, and Germans echoed them - mindlessly and insincerely, that's all.

@seseljsrs Also, I never said what U.S. did to Toyoda was justified. I'm just saying, in a realistic world, countries do what they must in order to protect their own interest. Just like the U.S. attacked on Toyota, just like Japan tries to cover for its war crimes. China also refuses to give Tibetians and Uyghurs freedom. It's a sad fact, but it's true. Nothing you can do about it.

What your post suggests to me is that as long as an economic competitor can be demonised politically, for any reason, than it's alright to change the rules of the game to suit whatever interests Washington might have at the moment. That kind of thinking is not going to win the US any friends.

If Japan was in power leading the global market. For the future of Japan, they would've done the same or worse to United States if they were in U.S shoes. U.S. government did what they had to do for the future of their country. Each country is sovereign and they have to collect and maintain their own interest in order to survive. You learn this in international politics in college, basics of all basics. On top of that, Japan recently had a protest against U.S. military in Japan.

The US has been doing for the past 20 years what it criticised other countries for most of the 20th century - protectionism, nationalisation of industries, etc but also going one better through extending CIA false flag operations towards these objectives. It's really shameful behaviour from an empire built on stolen land which owes the entirety of its economic success to imported labour.

What I'm telling you is the US is applying a tactic very commonplace in politics - the negative ad campaign - to business and the free market. It an only mean bad things for the consumer, who already knows what kind of results the negative ad campaign gets in politics - unqualified persons abusing office for personal gain. @seseljsrs Well, i think it's more for a country's gain than a personal gain. Either case, situation with Toyota wasn't fair and it wasn't right, immoral if that's what people call it. If the U.S. really wanted to compete back into the auto industry, instead of attacking Toyoda, they should be fair is what people are saying, but that is hard to ask from a country that is protecting its own self interest. Sad fact is, morality and politics just do not coexist.

That's true enough as revealed by the discrepancy between US deed and word, but your closing statement is a contradiction of much US rhetoric which claims otherwise, especially in criticising foreign states.
The Toyota case is an exercise in determining the domestic public's RESISTANCE to Washington's nationalisation/protection of domestic corporate interests. Washington was encouraged to do this by the passivity of US ratepayers to its recent bailouts of those same interests.
