Maimuna bint Haris, the wife of the Prophet (s), was the step sister of Asma bint Umais, Abu Bakr’s wife, their mother was same (i.e Hind bint Auf). Ummul Fadhal bint Haris and Salma bint Umais were also the sisters of Asma bint Umais, who were married to Abbas and Hamzah respectively. After the death of Abu Bakr, Ali married Asma bint Umais, hence Muhammad bin Abu Bakr became his stepson (Durr-e-Najafia , p. 113)

The Holy Prophet (saaws) had said "I swear by the one who controls my life that this man (Ali) and his Shi'a shall secure deliverance on the day of resurrection". Do any hadith exist in which the Prophet (saaws) had guaranteed paradise for Imams Abu Hanifa, Malik, Shafi, Hanbal and their followers?

Tafsir Durr al Manthur, by al Hafidh Jalaladeen Suyuti in his commentary of verse 98:7

In such circumstances how can we accept that the vast bulk of Kufans were Shia? How can it be believed that the Shia, that had been obliterated by Ziyad all of a sudden appeared again and were strong and confident enough to summon Imam Hussain (as) to them.

This was the treatment afforded to the adherents of Ali (as) under Mu'awiya. Such was its severity that when Ibn Ziyad become Governor of Kufa, he said to Hani bin Urwa (who was Shia):

Muwiyah made Ziyad Bin Sumaya governor over the people of Kufa and linked it with Basrah. As Ziyad had lived in Kufa during the time of Ali[ra], he was aware of all Shias living there. He dragged Shias from every stone and mount and murdered them, threatened them, cut off their hands and legs, made needles pierce their eyes, hanged them over trees, exiled them from Iraq and made them homeless to the extent that no renowned Shia remained there in Iraq"
