  • it is evil to fancy bullies

  • what's art about that?

  • i'd definately have his artwork on my wall! :)

  • He's very good.

When you paint...it takes you into another mindset.

    It's quite remarkable.

I've never felt anything like it.

  • I am not having a laugh...

  • Calum, creativity is an 'Art', so therefore The Office is art. Ricky just gave us a little glimpse of how he escapes from the dark side of criticism and m**gs pissing him off. I think Ricky is as genuine as they come and detests ignorance. We are all ignorant to some extreme but when you spread ignorance everywhere and cannot see the error of your ways, then you're a fucking R-tard.

  • they're actually not bad. not in a "let's break this down and analyse it" sort of way, but definitely in a "that would look nice and i wouldn't mind having it on my wall" sort of way. I like the mix of colours.

  • Ricky i'm an artist , I guess you could call me , just a suggestion. STICK WITH MAKING ME LAUGH .lol

  • tweelees

  • The office is not art its comedy

  • @CalumnMcAulay Which is one of the arts duh.

  • @CalumnMcAulay comedy IS art

  • 43-48

  • If those are really his paintings then they are bloody good.

  • I love wildlife art actually. How could he hate them?

  • i was expecting a joke lol

  • Love his art work love them colours myself ..doesnt have to be perfect ..wouldnt mind having one of them on my wall :)

  • i'm pretty sure this is a joke. those appear to be professional paintings. the whole "but i just dont have the skill" bit must be the crux of the joke.

  • @Svourdroculed Nope, He's describing the process too much for it to be a joke. I guess that's the problem with being a famous comic, no one really believes him when he's serious.

  • @caisandra03

He's joking!! OMG!! I can't believe you didn't get it!!!

  • LMAO !!

  • i thought this was a joke at first, but when he got a few out, theres a distinct similarity and hes got great style

  • little puff

  • Beautiful cat, Hes a cat person , But an animal person aswell :) Gah who wouldnt wanna date this man, come on :)

  • The painting aren't bad at all in my opinion. Of course he's playing with the seriousness of the interview but he's clearly got a genuine passion for paining.

  • Classic Gervais at the end there. :)

  • yeah i cant tell either, is he pissing about?

  • @laughorcrytv

Yes he obviously is. You Brits don't know your own?

  • @hegelets oh sorry i was just making a comment and having fun watching. i shud have known he obviously is, etc etc etc etc etc cant anyone just hav a nice time on here?

  • @pudseypumper It's definitely sincere. Gerve is actually into art like this, on the XFM shows he gets a bit pissed off at Karl because Karl doesn't like his art on his walls and Gerve says he just likes the look of it. The problem with the video is the music, it's cheesy and lame. But he is sincere, he genuinely loves art and music. He also likes Heroes. I mean come on, the paints are quite nice. People saying this is satire (of what? Himself?) are reading too much into it.

  • He wrote a great kids book, why shouldn't he have done these paintings?

  • It's pretty obvious that this is serious, and his paintings are actually pretty good for an amateur. People who think this is a joke or think the art is bad, A - don't understand Ricky Gervais's humor (which this is obviously not), and B - probably don't know shit about art

  • @drumzeppelin you are an idiot its so obvoiusly a piss take and the paintings are shit!

  • WHO KNEW?! i LOVE OLLIE :-)

  • ...probably an artist fourth.

  • I kinda like the paintings though

  • Looks grim. Innit?

  • haha love how hes openly taking the piss

  • I hope he's having a laugh because his paintings are rubbish.

  • I wonder what Karl would think of them :P

  • Ricky Gervais is a complete hack, riding the coattails of the genius that is Karl Pilkington.

  • @Hoopermazing ha ha ha if it was not for gervais we would of never heard of karl pilkington. oh and ricky had two massivly succesful shows without karl

  • @Brendanoco Thanks, Captain Obvious.

  • @Hoopermazing how is he riding off the coattails of pilington if he was majorly succesfull without karl

  • @Brendanoco I was being facetious. Thus the "Captain Obvious" comment. Upon further consideration, that should have been, Captain Oblivious.

  • @Hoopermazing its sort of hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic over writing on the internet

  • As soon as I start thinking this man cannot surprise me anymore he's coming out with another hidden talent! I love him!

  • He has the New York painting on his blog. He is being serious here. :)

  • Twee? What does "twee" mean?

  • Only this work isn't really conceptual ? Some of it ain't even half bad, I think without the skyline on a few of the works they would stand out as genuinely good expressionist pieces.

  • This has to be a wind up. You never know with gervais but I am guessing it is a piss take. I am an Artist myself and Conceptual art is generally seen as the armpit cheese of art and I think gervais has the intelligence to know this.

  • Im pretty confident he's been sincere, apart from the obvious bits of humor.

  • He's taking the piss....lol

  • So true what he says about animal art...

  • lol dont get me wrong i absulutely love RG watch the office, his stand up etc but his painting looks like a turd smeared on to a canvas!!

  • Well, I'm just glad he kept his day job......

  • I'd buy a Gervais painting

  • is that his cat?

  • if you know Ricky Gervais and I mean beyond just The Office and Extras (interviews, stand-up comedy etc) you'd know beyond any doubt that he's not being 'serious' here but as someone mentioned in one of the earlier comments, his subtlety in not revealing the obvious is masterfully created and makes his character believable enough to keep watching! Comedic genius!

  • did anyone else find this a bit sexual?

    No , just me then

    Fair enough :) lol

  • the first one reminds me of hell!

  • @SuperYellow1989 how do you know what hell looks like ?

  • @EricandSean107 looks like uve caught me out, ur right ive never actually visited hell, there i admit it.....! lol

i just mean it looks like how hell is protrayed in popualr culture, fire and broomstone, u no all tht jazz

  • @SuperYellow1989 what the f*** is broomstone? :D:

  • @sanmal88 sorry i meant brimstone lol!

  • is the part on the art actually true? i need to know this

  • haha he is clever xD but i heard he is an artist :b I bet he is really good! I love Ricky Gervais!!! <3 <3 <3

  • He is acting. The thing is, he is acting well enough for you to believe him. He is impersonating a sad, middle aged man, such as Rofl harris, who finds small passion for poor artwork. This passion takes away from the grueling, tedious life, until bang. A pile of soft, bloody tissue smashes against the wall, and a dark figure slides to the floor... You get it now, right??

  • Err... domestic cats aren't wildlife LOL.

    Nice paintings though.

  • It's for real. Check his blog.

  • he does paint but he is being sarcastic too in this vid ... hes taking the piss... tv show heroes lol genius gervais..

  • There is sarcasm to everything he does, which means to me, nothing he does can be taken completely seriously. Think the laugh at the end signifies this.

  • You're clever

  • Course its a joke. The last serious thing Gervais did was seona dancing, decades ago. Didn't quite work out so he took a stab at comedy, and perfected it over 6 billion other potentials.

  • He actually does paint, mate. He's posted some of his own work on his blog. And he is definitely being sincere in this video.

  • the end where he polishes he trophy,

    what a funny bloke

  • he's a genius.

  • the thing i love about this video is that its serious yet there s a tiny hint of sarcasm here and there...it makes u wonder wether its real or wether he s sort of acting...amazing Ricky gervais!!!;))

  • contrary to what some people may believe. this is not a joke. frequenters of his blog will remember he posted a photo of the new york landscape at 1:03. most good comedians are conceptual thinkers, something that gives one the ability or more over, the tendency, to take ideas and project them onto, and represent them through. different mediums. in the office gervais represents his ideas of respect and popularity through david brent. this is just another expression of gervais' ideas, using paint

  • his paintings are actually well good.

  • They are his paintings , he showed the one of New York on his blog.

  • I LOVE RICKY, Glad im alive to see him perform. Keep it going man..

    Love u

  • Lol newyork and heroes. I think this is a joke or he is being serious and being funny along the way

  • I'm stumped. It wasn't funny enough to be a parody yet I've never ever heard him refer to painting even in passing on any podcast or interview.

  • I don't think this is a joke

  • i geniunely don't know whether this was sincere or not. I dunno. I'd say the office is art anyway..

  • @ykoshy it is obviously a joke...

  • @XConnorsMusicX since i wrote this about 2 years ago, i have since realised it isn't actually joke - he actually does paintings and puts them on his blog sometimes.

  • @ykoshy I ask you to re-watch it then, cause it has about a millon trademark Ricky Gervais tyle jokes, and I never said he doesnt paint, but its still a mick-take!

  • There had to have been more to the man that has brought us the greatest comedy known to man.

To say that he's a genius is an understatement, a gross understatement. Despite his obvious skill he's still humble and that's amazing; even the little skit at the end where he's polishing the Globe........a parody of egotism perhaps and even if it's not he f**king deserves the Globes and more. Good on him.

  • Who sez he doesn't have the skills?? They're awesome! And yet, as a cartoonist, I do the same thing he does, when I try to paint! He says, "Well, I don't have any technical skill..." I say, "Well, I can't paint like Gervais, there, I always try to make it too perfect!" Frankly, I try to DRAW when I paint, I fight the brush! I truly admire his confidence to paint so freely and, in his view, imperfectly! I will do my best to follow his example, from now on!

  • you do know its a joke don't you?

  • I know Ricky Gervais is a totally straight-faced comedian, I'm just saying I think the makers of these "Obsessives" clips are playing it straight this time. If not, hey, more power to him. He's a master. I just think he's not in his "office" character right now. Looks pretty real to me. Sad that the world's come to where we can't tell what's real or fake anymore .... he'd probably LOVE that we're having this conversation!

  • it's serious

  • The actual paintings don't look too bad.

  • what's up with the flickering?

qu'est-ce qui se passe avec le flick-blanc-là?

  • Havin a larf.

  • Interesting vid.
