This is a load of crap. The only plausible way that they could "contract" Tourette's like symptoms is if they have recently been infected by a Streptococcus infection. A Strep infection can activate Tourette's like symptoms. It is called PANDAS, Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections. It is rare and associated with dramatic, "overnight", onset of symptoms of those associated with Tourette's and other tic related gross motor function disorders.

Today, for a doctor to call this a fake, psychiatric disorder, is foolish and dangerous. When the immune system is compromised (run down, stress, miss sleep etc.) not only can symptoms of a movement disorder from strep toxins, return, but worse. With a negative throat strep swab; my son went into kidney failure with blood titre for strep 300 times too high. Bottom line is to always TREAT a movement disorder with 3-6 weeks antibiotics and /or immunoglobulin's.

After I hit my head in a bike accident, the tics started getting worse and now I have full blown tourett syndrome. It IS environmental, not psychological. There was a cyanide spill 40 years ago 3 miles away from the school. I hope when they do air contamination tests, they don't just test the school, but several surrounding areas, especially near busy roads, because 2 people from out of town got the tic disorders after passing through Leroy.

I think this is fake. How does all of a sudden 12 girls all end up with the same problems? Sure it could be chemicals and other reasons. This is a load of crap. The only plausible way that they could "contract" Tourette's like symptoms is if they have recently been infected by a Streptococcus infection. Today, for a doctor to call this a fake, psychiatric disorder, is foolish and dangerous. When the immune system is compromised (run down, stress, miss sleep etc.) not only can symptoms of a movement disorder from strep toxins, return, but worse. With a negative throat strep swab; my son went into kidney failure with blood titre for strep 300 times too high. It would be interesting to see if there is anything in common such as...hpv shots, flu shots, 8th grade shots, birth control pills, diet pills, etc... This is very scary. I'm praying for all the teens and their families. I have teens and it scares me to think it can happen to them.

@Fis10n I live in Stafford, which is a totally of 5 minutes away from LeRoy. I attend Leroy school though and I am good friends with 2 of the girls. These kids all love school. Also, none of these students are really good friends, some of them even hate eachother, and they all got this at different times. Some started in September and some started only weeks ago. They all didnt "wake up the same day," with the same syptoms, maybe you should actually pay attention to the story. This is VERY real. I see these kids every day, they're in lots of pain.

You might be able to get a couple of people to go in on a hoax but to get a dozen to do this? Also, many are really good students and this will really screw up their acedemic career.
