  • The tears won't stop, such a tragedy,so many lifes ended in there youth. "Time to die when I'm Twenty?" My God.

  • 2:35 "...the amazing thing is that 63 years later historians and military experts are still trying to figure out why so many more men died here on this beach than on any of the others."

er... not an auspicious start. No they're not. They died because there were crack German troops in large numbers at Omaha, unlike the other beaches. To pretend this isn't common knowledge (for the sake of an uber-dumb audience) is pathetic.

  • @ryko26

  • @ryko26

IT's SAD Horrific so much blood, troops dismembered, for what?

Let me ask you this, if you were there on your own ? Would you approach this situation as IKE did? Would you deliberately stand in front of a rifle knowing your demise

Would you walk out from your front door knowing there are 1000 enemy armed troops waiting?

I would of course think of an appropriate alternative

For those doors to open on those front and center troops IS INSANE

OBVIOUSLY it was GREED for IKE etc. A HERO??

  • @ryko26

Those MEN were most certainly HERO's following orders. WOW. WOW. Knowing they are going to be KILLED and the men behind them and the men behind them and the men behind them totaling 2400. SHIT that's FUCKED.

First of all I would of laid down for some sort of protection or attempt to avoid being KILLED. Carried a couple dead comrades on my shoulders for some protection, FUCK THAT. I salute those men who worthlessly lost their lives my Heart Pours out to their Souls Soo BRAVE and a waste

  • @11110JFK Multiple postings with the random USE of CAPITALS as well as comments such as"tattoos were IBM numbers" rather suggests a person who is MENTALLY ILL. Or at least some twat who thinks "could of" is ENGLISH. And yes, this is a parody of you! lmao

  • @ryko26

before you depict ones cursiveness you better brush up on your brain power in a more beneficial mannerism, you stumbled and knocked yourself out. Stop tossing shit on the wall nothing you say stuck.

    WAKE UP

  • Most important battle? My ass! The most important battle had already been been fought out in the East

  • The most important battle in the history of the world it was not.

  • Vive L'Amérique!

  • Whoever wanted to know about D-day should look at this

The most casualties out of all the beaches, and maybe even all of Europe!!

"Every black dot here is a dead American soldier." Damn, gotta be a lotta dead bodies to be seen from a photo from a plan at least 5000 ft up?

  • Couldn't they have got someone better than this long haired middle aged man who hasn't grown up? Timewatch is aways a worthwhile hour though.

  • if hitler woulda used the jews the germans would have won the war

  • very clever ppl in ww2. they had great low tech solutions for difficult problems

  • I was at Normandy this past June. Along with everything else, when we got to Omaha Beach I took a big Zip lock bag and took some sand. I went to an antique store and bought some period jars and bottles and gave it out for Christmas presents. We were there in early June and it was cold and rainy and harsh. You all just have to go there. It's an experience of a lifetime. And it's a beautiful beach. And everyone everywhere is friendly, helpful. and knowledgeable, Expect rain if you go in June

  • you people have no regards for those US soldiers that died in Omaha as well as the one that survived, you never been in war , i am sure if you been in war before you would not say any goddemn nasty words nor joke about it, you will piss in your pamper once an artilliery is dropping near you, mama mia why they allow a retarded person to post a comment here who know nothing and have no idea what is war, Iraq and Afghanistan is not like Vietnam ok there was a front line between pro soldiers

  • Most important battles of World War II

Stalingrad: Turning Point on the Eastern Front

Midway: turning point in the Pacific

El Alamain: Turning point in Eastern North Africa/Mediterrianian

Operation Torch: turning Point in western North Africa/Mediterrianian

Operation: Overlord: Turning Point on the Western Front

  • That said without a doubt the most important battle of WW2 was the Battle of Stalingrad. If the Germans win there, they could have won the war.

  • What an idiotic statement "most important battle in the history of the world". There were thousands of battles far more important. I like to think the most important battle was the Battle of Tours that saved western civilization.

  • Most important batle in the history of the world? It wasn't even the most important battle on the western front, that easily goes to the Battle of Britain. I don't even think DDay ranks as the top 30 in all of World War 2. I mean, there were bigger battles fought in Africa. There were hundreds of battles with far more casualties and far bigger implications than DDay in WW2 alone. It did establish the Western Front, but it was inevitable and the Germans didn't have a prayer in stopping it.

  • I disagree. There were a couple of other events during WWII more important yet then the invasion of Normandy. Kursk and Stanligrad come to mind, and Pearl Harbour itself was of crucial importance.

  • @TanoBrati "and Pearl Harbour itself was of crucial importance"

True but probably not in the accepted notions that many have.

    * Pearl Harbor was one of the greatest defeats Japan suffered in the War

    * Welded a divided isolationist Nation into one unified ppl

    * Excepting USS Arizona & Oklahoma all the ships sunk (useless in carrier wafare) were raised, modernised & took part in Battle of Surgeo Straights in 1944

    * Important oil fuel storage depot missed completely

    * Strategic blundering

  • @auther1046 This is very true. I think Yamamoto himself said something like "Gentlemen, I fear that all we've achieved today is to wake up a sleeping giant and fill him with a deadly resolve."

And as you pointed out, the damage done to the fleet, while it seemed pretty bad, was mostly superficial. Only a bunch of old ships were sunk / damaged ... the carriers remained unharmed and - most importantly - the harbor facilities were barely scratched.

  • @antred11 "the harbor facilities were barely scratched"

Which made it possible to start the salvage of the sunk ships immediately. Modernise the entire area and prepare for a war on a scale that no one had seen before. If you've seen pic's later in the war of ships to the horizon my dad said it was very much like that except it was all around in scope. We clobbered them so bad the 'New Japanese Navy' started to build their ships with glass bottoms so they could see the 'Old Japanese Navy' :-)

  • you know world war 2 was a one bloody war one side that had it the worst was the soviet union with stalingrad they lost a lot of people

    like 150 000

  • 150 000? try again.

  • Thanks for uploading, really enjoying it.

  • ^The most important battle in the history of the world^ ......of the world, no less huh?! It was one of the most important battles of WW2 and those men fought bravely but even so we could argue about its importance considering Stalingrad and Kursk.

  • isn't he the host of brainiac?

  • he is the host of top gear thats for sure

  • he is the host of all good things :D

  • If you were Russian you could be forgiven for thinking this was when the allies finally joined the fight. After Stalingrad, Germany wasn't going to win the war.

  • @titokawaru Very true. The Allied invasion in my opinion was not so much as to defeat Germany as it was to prevent Russia from dominating Europe after the war.

  • Thank you. It is utmost important to remember the courage and dedication of allied soldiers. God bless them.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this video. As most people have been saying, I too am truely greatful for what these men fought for. God bless them, their families and everyone here who supports their cause. Thanks again for this video series.

  • Welcome! Glad you enjoyed.

  • I have nothing but respect for the allies. It makes me sad to think that the lives lost allow me to sit on my hole and be a slouch. Thank you men I'll be seeing you in Normandy 2010!!

  • In 2006 I visited this patriotic and unforgetable place. My heart is there. Thanks for this video. We are soldiers forever. Ezio(Brazil)

  • I have not seen this whole playlist yet but I want just to say that the "Timewatch" series is just, so far, the best videos of your channel. Thanks for sharing.

  • Yes BBC shows on the whole are superior to American; CRASH BANG Against 10/1 ODDs AMERICA is BETTER than everyone else, the History Channel nonsense, that is on American TV. And I'm an American.lol OMG I'm ranting I might have to delete my own post.

  • God yeah totally agree mate the documentaries made in the UK are far far superior in quality of content, compared to the over patriotic crap I used to see back on the History Channel in the US.

  • only in recent times did the US acknowlege that there were far more killed on Omaha. This secret was kept to keep the morale up on the home front

  • I knew a fellow who landed in the 5th wave on Omaha. He was also in the Battle of the Bulge. Was wounded in the kidney. Walked around the Ardennes forest for two weeks before he got medical aid. A hardcore guy he was. Proud to have known him.

  • GDHOUSTON YOUR THE MAN!

  • holy crap that's Richard Hammond! I LOVE that guy!

  • GDH rules 5/5

  • GREAT vids, Sir. Keep'em coming.

  • Looks like a good vid. Are you uploading the rest?

  • Yes! Just World War II related videos

  • Richard Hammond! yeah! always wanted to see this.

I wonder if he's as good as Clarkson and May at making non car related stuff.

    thx a lot!

  • I was thinking the same thing.

Jeremy Clarkson has done a bit of history as well.

Maybe launching oneself from car related stuff is the way into history!!!!

  • Sorry I live in America and had to read up on these two fellows. Clarkson narrates an excellent special on the raid on St. Nazaire, which I will upload soon.
