  • Simple touch is way more comfortable to hold, and is great for reading!

  • I have the nook simple touch i say its the one you would want just way better

  • could you go on youtube with it?

  • Just got it, already reading it. And I freaking love it.

  • this video is making me want to go get one right now....

    I think i might.

  • I am a recreational reader and i really like this device. I am considering buying it but am wondering if i can transfer my books from ibooks to the nook. if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

  • @ohann14 The Nook Simple Touch supports PDF and ePub books, I can vouch for the fact that PDF books can be easily loaded onto the device via your computer. I have not tried ePub but, as long as your books are one of those formats and have either no DRM or the standard DRM that the Nook supports, you should be fine.

  • @ohann14 no. you cannot. in any way at all.

  • get the kindle touch, more things

  • I'll choose the kindle touch

  • you can search the internet if u just write the url in the search box

  • @ajgolberg Not anymore... the new B&N update disables 'search box' web browser. Nook Simple Touch auto-updates firmware, so you won't have the browser for long (unless you root it).

  • I bought one yesterday. It's AWESOME! In the instruction booklet I think it said it will flash every 6 pages to refresh, but I think you can change that in settings!

  • I like Kobos, but absolutely love the Nook Touch.

  • Im buying a nook simple touch

  • I plan on buying the NOOK Simple Touch!

  • THERE IS WEB BROWSER !

  • great review i have it i did not know how you could accsess the highlights but you can

  • hey just to let you know to get to the web browser a.. you have to do is press the N key and the press search amd type in the website you wamt

  • i have a question, can I delete unwanted samples form my nook... i just got one for Christmas and i am not sure I can delete the sample I have DL ... thanks

  • @supaman Yeah, having a B&N account is required. For the "free download" thing, just don't do it. For one thing, it's illegal and it'll send you the Federal Prison.

  • @gwhizkids LOL are you serious? How they would find out? Because I plan to put in my eReader the books I already have in "physical paper". I would just buy the ones I donb't have yet.

  • When you purchase a nook do you have to have a barnes and noble account? And when you get a book, do you have to buy it from there or is there like a free download thing that they have for books?

  • @DetroitBORG There IS a web browser...just hit the "n" button, go to search, and enter a url :)

  • I just got mine,it is awesome,i have Steve Jobs' biography on mine

  • it has a browser tough.

  • There is a web browser but it is verry well hidden. You go to search and then type in what web site u want to go to an it will bring u rite to it. I love my nook. I just got it.

  • Which of these E reader is Better

    1- Nook Simple touch

    2- Kobo Touch

    3- Kindle 4

    4- Sony PRS-T1

    5- Kobo Wifi

  • @MrTerryahmed

    Nook Simple Touch

  • Comment removed

  • there is a web browser, its just hidden

  • Go Books!

  • IMPORTANT: There is a web browser.

  • Wow the nook really sucks

  • this guy is wrong there is a browser on the nook simple touch

  • @ThePeterchow Not any more, Nook retired the browser with the 1.1 firmware version

  • does it have comics

  • @iPodTouchAppPerson

How could it, there's no color.

  • Its $99 now i can't wait to get it for christmas :)

  • If this Christmas goes well (read: if I get enough money :D), I'm buying this pretty little Nook for myself :) I checked, they should deliver in Croatia... Only 99$ now! And I so welcome the fact that this Nook has absolutely none of the advanced features (mp3 player, blah blah)... What I need is an e-book reader, not a multifunctional device that can browse the web, walk the dog, change diapers... Thanks for the review, it helped me make my choice :D

  • can u turn it to the side or only straight up

i was gonna get the 2nd generation nook color but this is cheaped so i need to learn about it

  • @graciify27 Yes, you do have to pay for books on this device. And, some libraries do allow you to borrow books. In the kindle store many classics are free and some others are very cheap! Hope that helped!

  • do you have to PAY for books you want to get from the store? can you get them from your local library? someone please answer me because i was thinking about getting one for my dad by christmas

  • Can you get books from the local library?

  • @cleverhero thats what i was thinking too!

  • Can de Nook Simple Touch display images? For instance, if i want to read a paper from college with diagrams, graphics, etc, or just plain images, or comic books, will i be able to do it?

  • Nice review. Thinking about this. Like the design much more than the Kindle Touch. Already have a Kindle Keyboard as they call it now; perhaps a convert, like I said. :P

  • can u add your own book stores on the nook? or only Barnes and noble?

  • @detroitborg hey I am a total stranger to e-ink readers and stuff,

naive question, will this device read any PDF file, I mean even pirated books and stuff, or just the ones that I will buy

    thanks

  • which do you think would be a better investment: the nook simple touch or the kindle touch?

  • excellent review, thank you. i was especially interested in seeing the various ways to navigate, which you covered very well. thanks again.

  • Fabulous I'm getting nook touch soon looks awesome!!!! Lovin it!!! (:

  • I am actually having trouble deciding which one I want to buy, so I was wondering if you could help me by answering one or two questions about the nook original and nook simple touch. My two questions are: 1) How is the screen clarity of the original nook in comparison to the nook simple touch? 2) Which of the two devices has given you better battery life generally?

  • @wiilover55 Nook Touch has longer battery life, slightly crisper screen, and fewer features. Nook Original had game, web browser, audio player/headphone jack.

  • Do google e-books work on the Nook simple touch?

  • Do you prefer the new generation Kindles and Nooks better? I'm tempted to purchase the Kindle 3 for its audio and web browsing capabilities. Thoughts?

  • what is the cheapest tablet now?

  • does it have an mp3 player, photos, video and wifi?

  • @DetroitBORG Nice review, but I'm curious as to when the next nook generation comes out. Last christmas i got the kodak zx3, which i love, except about a week later they announced the next one at ces 2011. I just don't want that to happen again.

  • Good video. I'd love a comparison between the "Simple Touch" and the new Kindle touch thing-- whatever that's called ;P

I did notice a constant jitter to the video... what was that?

  • I hope to buy an ereader. I like both kindle touch and nook.. I can't decide what to buy . can you tell me which Ereader is best for eyes. ( i'v already can't see far)

  • Which is better. The nook simple touch or the new kindle 4?

  • @Bored4NOreason I prefer the Nook Touch so that's what i would recommend. It's more comfortable to hold with a higher contrast display and a better UI.

  • @Bored4NOreason

The nook Touch also lets you browse the web...hit search and then type the website address !

  • Great video,really like it.

  • excellent review! thank you for uploading.

  • this is one of the easyest machines i've ever used i love it

  • acctually the nook can go on the internet but it's hidden, press the quick nav button then tap on search, the enter the url like "Youtube.com" for an example and then boomm baby ur on the internet

  • My compliments on the review. It moves along briskly without losing you. No umms, and ahs, sounds professional. Good job.

  • @PeterPiper00 Thank You! :)

  • Great review! I'm thinking of either getting the Kindle 3G or the Nook Simple Touch...Right now, the Nook is looking better. The only thing is with my experience with touchscreens, I often encounter problems. So far, how has the touchscreen worked out for you? Have you encountered any problems pertaining to it? Has your overall experience with it been good? This is really the deciding factor for me.

  • outstanding review. trying to decide between a kindle and a nook. i never even considered a Nook before to be honest because the Kindle has been so superior in previous generations. However now i am not so sure... how is the syncing? that is important to me as i like to read on my computer and my phone sometimes.

right now my kindle apps on my Macbook and my Droid phone work great together. i can just pick up where i left off. how is this on the nook?

    thanks!

  • do you have a lot of touch screen problems? i'm a bit skeptical because i'm not a huge fan of the touch screen... i might get a kindle because of that but i really want the nook (the only reliable touch screen i've ever used is the apple ipod)

  • @christinaaaaa The touchscreen works flawlessly, although an e-ink screen can never act as quickly as an LCD panel like the iPod Touch.

  • @christinaaaaa if you mean the new kindle 4, you will deeeeeeply regret it because of the UI, and the lack of usable keyboard.

  • Can u put PDF on to this device

  • @QUAY1E Yes!

  • i like to read and don't know what r.e.t.d.g.f.j.f means but is was in my book does anyone know.

  • I don't like best one amazon kindle but Good review

  • Great review! I have the Nook 1st gen and was trying to decide if the 2nd gen was worth it. Your review has convinced me. :)

  • Hahaha that was a very stupid question to ask!

  • Will you get the Nook Color?

  • @RobertHuck64 You can actually see my Nook Color in this video.

  • Glad I got KIndle it has text to speech and more memory.

  • @sdhummer Ummm. Nook has an expandable memory slot.

  • I have a nook color question. How's the readability like in sunlight when you use the nook color?

  • @EarwenUndomiel It's not great, lots of reflection, and hard to see. You're best best is e-ink when you're outside.

  • @DetroitBORG Ok thanks for the reply.

  • Still like the kindle better

  • what if u dont have wifi can u still set it up

  • @dancercat28 You don't need WiFi to activate it, you can use it without a B&N account registered on the device.

  • @DetroitBORG gfkgntkgngk4wnr;gremlgmerkm

  • Thank you for this video!!! I got my Nook last week, and I absolutely LOVE IT!! The size is absolutely perfect, so I can comfortably put it in my purse and take it everywhere I go. To be honest with you, my cell phone weighs more than this Nook!! I wanted something for reading, and this is definitely it!

Thank you for the video :)

  • Got the 1st edition Nook back in November. Really love it, but can't help eyeing the new nook! Great review and very informative.

  • @creamytarte Yes, the Nook Store has many free books. The best way to investigate this is to look at the the Barnes & Noble website for their catalog of Nook books.

  • @gajklfptr5542 Congrats! How do you like it so far?

  • Is the first review i watch complete, very good work because of you i decided to buy the nook Thanks Goob vibes! :D

  • @stebanteran Glad to hear it, I hope you are enjoying it!

  • great review! very informative. my fiance bought me the original nook for xmas last year, and while i love it, i've been eyeing the 2nd gen. i never used the speakers or web browser on my 1st gen, so i don't think i'd miss it. thanks for the in depth review!

  • @youngcou I don't think you can go wrong by upgrading, I think it's a much more usable device for reading. An technically you do have a browser if you type in a URL address in the Search box.

  • @creamytarte there are Free Fridays where they have a book for free. varied genres. also, all public domain books are free. depending on your ethics, you can obtain books for free via "other" outlets.

  • This is a great video; thanks for posting it. I am thinking of buying the Nook, and this really gave me a lot of information on it. Thanks again! :)

  • @Cheeseburgeh Glad to hear it!

  • Weird. When you scan through the pages, it doesn't blink-and-reverse-colors...

  • @KeLopezDOTCL It will every 10-pages or so.

  • There is a web browser....it's hidden

  • @44LittleMessi Where???

  • Do they have diary of a wimpy kid or kidbooks

  • @thejedireviewer14 The Nook store doesn't have Diary of a Wimpy Kid yet.

  • I had a conversation with a barnes and noble associate about this new NOOK. I also had a chance to handle it (download, read, type, and log on to my facebook). It was a breeze and super quick, On par, if not better than the Kindle. I loved the touch screen, and it was extremely light. Dispite those facts, I would probley prefer the Kindle due to the abilities to the Kindle. Also the Nook simple touch does have to flash every 6-8 pages.

  • What happened at the end with the repeat?

  • @123TechHead That was suppose to be a blooper ;)

  • Really thorough review, you got me to go ahead and order one. Can't wait to receive it!

  • @NorCalBear84 It's a winner, you'll love it!

  • The interface for the Nook seems nicer then the Kindle's.

  • @j814wong It's much nicer, the Kindle is a great device backed by a great store, but the UI is pretty awful.

  • I prefer the kindle.

  • There is a web browser in it

  • @JacobMcabe There is, but it's hidden and it's not optimized for this device so it's almost unusable.

  • it sounds like "The Snook"...an easter egg from hell in The Losers movie :)

  • haha the end :)

  • i bought the new 21.5 inch model and it doesn't have a cleaning cloth do you know why? please respond

  • @theoharis27 The iMac? They no longer include cleaning cloths.

  • This and the Pocketbook 360 plus are the best readers available at the moment, in my opinion.

I don't even count the Kindle since Amazon refuses to support the epub format (I know I can convert to .mobi, but it's the principle of the matter).

  • Dude make a video about the new betas of ios and os x please

  • @rikaskate22 I will be.

  • question, please answer! why does this nook have android 2.1?? what is the point of it being on this simple device.

  • The Nook has not been released in the UK and considering Barnes and Noble do not exist in the United Kingdom then I assume there will never be a release for these isles.

Its annoying because Waterstones (Large UK Book Retailer) licenses the, not-so-great, Sony e-reader products. Still, I suppose the Kindle is fine really: I'm certainly happy with mine.

  • @OJSlaughter93 The Nook is a very hackable device and its open to more file formats than the Kindle...so it's possible to acquire and use all around the world. I know it tends to be popular globally, even if it's not widely distributed. Barnes & Noble has always had some of the best e-readers IMO, but the Kindle 3 is a solid device.

  • @DetroitBORG I was considering buying a new e-reader in the near future

But importing one is just too much hassle, it would end up costing me much more than any other e-reader with the import duty and postage costs

  • @DetroitBORG are you going crazy for ios 5 like me? i hate how apple releases things so early!

  • @videogames73 iOS 5 is absolutely brilliant, by far the best upgrade yet.

  • Is the touch also available outside the US? I live in the Netherlands and i really want this reader!

  • @krullebol1122 Not that I'm aware of, except through eBay.

  • 2:28

    Lol

  • I would buy this if they make a "color" version. It's light and comfortable to hold but I hate that's B&W, I'll keep my Nook color for now.

  • The display kinda reminds me of old PDA that uses monochrome display, aah good times. :)

  • @HLM190586 Well, they used LCD at the time...e-ink is not LCD fortunately ;)

  • @HLM190586 Thank goodness it's not LCD. This is a far better display technology than the PDA days of old. E-ink is far from perfect in its current state but it does a few things far better than even modern LCDs.

  • this look like the ipad :)

  • Cool

  • Detroit, please use some Vitamin E oil for your nail cuticles.

  • You should have shown us about the pdf feature in this new nook. I wonder what would it be because, kindle 3, you will have to separate each page of pdf into 3 parts if read in horizontal and sometimes it can be very annoying if some information get torn between parts.

  • The touch screen is not resistive, it is based on IR. That is why it is inset more deeply, bc the IR sensors are around the bezel.

  • Believe I will keep my Kindle 3.

  • personally i love my nook color for reading it just takes a minute to get use to it & get the setting right and with the antiglare/fingerprint screen protector, it works great in sunlight as long as im not in the direct path of the sun. also the nook color is great with the feature book that have videos, magazine reading, apps, and surfing the web & is the best full featured ereader out there (only one) and in my opinion (and millions of others & companies) the best android tablet for under $300

  • @DetroitBORG When are you going to be getting your iMac?

  • Great review, the iPads got competition!

  • 4:54 "let's just tap that" lol :)

  • Do a video on the iPad on 5.0

  • I agree web browsing does suck on e ink

  • Detroitborg,

what happened to the TV unboxings? You posted on twitter like 3 weeks ago you bought 3 TV's and you had the unboxing.

  • Not to say this is a bad e-reader but it seems a bit lagy...looks nice tho :)

  • Awesome review, I might get it , because my iPad is no good in sun light

  • hello everyone,

I am running a site with a friend, where you can download pictures called: refrast.nl

would you please be so kind to go to that website and click an add?

    Thanks very much!!

  • What happen to the iMac that you ordered?? thumbs up if you want to know

  • @EternalSilence501 kabommmmmmmmmmmmm! big kabommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

  • Lol. What happened at the end of the vid?

  • Finally a book reader that does just that and does it well! Seriously considering getting one.

  • What files does it read. Seems like a great ereader

  • Room tour! :D

  • I like DetroitBORG because he takes the time to read through the comments, and answer any questions, comments, or concerns that his viewers have. That's what makes a good reviewer.

  • doesn't seem that responsive :S

  • Nook finally made a book reader I would consider, but I already have dozens of kindle books so it's too late. Unless I can read my kindle content on it, they are wasting their time.

  • Just to clarify for you, it's neither resistive nor capacitive. It uses infrared from the sides to detect where you press.

  • @JoshuaRead Ah, that explains the bezel. That's surprising, never really seen that on a portable device.

  • @JoshuaRead wow. it must be the first of its kind.

  • There actually is a web browser ***
