Fever by Susan Whitehall and Willie Johns sons have hit the Bookstores it is a damn good read that speaks to the influences this virtuoso impacted on other artist...it is not fluffy but based on solid facts...and a whole lot of legacy,,,and love of the untenable talent of this artist.....buy buy buy...
What year is this from? It's interesting that he sings it in the key of "F" [instead of the usual "C"],A decision that surely hit home, big time. I can't remember hearing a vibrato as good as that before [not from a man anyway]. I gotta' get that 45,so I can blast it thru my pair of 1958 Mcintosh 'MC 30' big blocks, into the four 8'' speakers,to ensure the finest in High fidelty listening pleasure !...and if the useless neighbors don't like it,.. they can get another butcher to fix thier shit.
Fantastic Vinyl Sound !! Even through this crappy computer, you can still feel the high speed juke box sound. Many years ago,I heard the James Brown version of this song,on the radio, which is what brought me here. WHAT A FIND !! So we now know where James [also on King records] has learned how to bend his notes. This record is a timeeless classic ,for many reasons ..The smart lyrics, The old time arangement, mixed with the gigantic rythm and blues voice.WOW Can someone please post the J B version
What a soulful, sultry voice! The Authorized Biography about the "Prince of The Blue" Little Willie John is due out in June 20011! Check out the Little Willie John Face Book Fan page for more information " Fever: Little Willie John's Fast Life and Mysterious Death . . ."
A song I will never forget. My uncle was going through his divorce and would play this tune to death in his little drab apartment once he moved out of the house. You see, he loved his first wife to death but she wanted the streets of Detroit. Eventually, the kids came to live with him when he relocated to Inkster, MI. He remarried in 1966 to a wonderful woman and as they say, lived happily ever after.
There's a really rare doo wop version of this on some obscure label that I like a lot. All I remember is it's on a black label and it's a really raw, sparse version. If anyone knows what I'm talking about let me know
@PJDooWop The Revelers were an American quintet (four close harmony singers and a pianist) popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The Revelers' recordings of "Dinah", "Old Man River", "Valencia", "Baby Face", "Blue Room", "The Birth of the Blues", "When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba", and many more, became popular in the United States and then Europe in the late 1920s..this was found on Wikipedia

Jimmy Busk's comments support everything I have ever said about this song. Mr. Busk's review of this song is dead-on.

But when I reach a window there is just empty space

The lawn we were proud of is waving in hay
Our beautiful garden has withered away
Where you planted roses the weeds seen to say

Is lonely and silent the shades are all drawn
And my heart is heavy as I gaze upon

This song never seems old-fashioned to me. The lyrics are very intelligent and the arrangement is solid. Great song. Just the best. My favorite song.

No question, this is the BEST version of this song. Not only that, this is Little Willie Johns best effort! I get a chill listening to it....

This song was written in approximately 1927 or 1928. There will never again be songs such as those written by Tin Pan Alley songsmiths.

No one could bend a note like Little Willie John. This song is my favorite song of all time.

@xunclexx the sadest and most beautiful. send this song to every divorcing couple and half would get back together.
unfortunately, the other half would kill themselves

This song reminds me of when my parents divorced 35 years ago. Both parents are deceased now, but I never got over the disintegration of my family.
