  • Check some of the vids on YouTube. You can take the top shell off almost the same way you did here. Male part off, top shell off, gills & guts off, mustard off, then legs off, break in half. Probably easier that way.

  • But I like to eat the crabgut. Its like the toppings on a cake. Delish!

  • same here the orange stuff is good. whats wrong with eating that?

  • @rps13sr I guess to some folks it does not look as good as it tastes (like an oyster).

  • good god.... you know there is a much better way to do this than bust the thing in half, right?

with one hand, grab the legs (both halves) and the other reach your thumb under the back flap and just tear the shell off. Most of the guts come with it and you avoid that giant nasty mess you just made with the smashing the thing to bits.

  • Thanks for sharing your method...

  • hey pappystu,,,are you eating dead crab :)

  • the horror, the horror....

    he he

  • i do pretty much the same thing except I pop the shell off whole,,,and only use 1 inch of water to steam instead of boil

    Nice work!!

  • been out of town 2 weeks... Thanks yea steaming is great too! how long do you steam for?

  • i use a turkey fryer with a high btu burner,,,get the water and salt boiling,,,throw leg sections in,,,wait till bubbles cover crab and then 12 minutes of bubbles o the verge of boiling over but not quite

  • Roger that... We will try your method this summer sometime... keeping the meat from getting water saturated is key eh....

  • i prefer it this way because the meat cooks in its ow juices rather than having all the flavorful juices boiling out of the crab

  • where in Puget are you? we just checked the pots near Edmonds and had 2 limits,,,,,,stock piling for the picnic tomorrow

  • We lived in Whatcom county for 15 years but moved to Grand Coulee 2 years ago...

Lot different over here... Crabbing in US Puget Sound waters was really on the downhill when we left...

  • i agree with your last comment,,,but last year it bounced back a bit

this year the commercial guys raped our area this june,,,so we really had to grind to get the limits

kind of wish they would give certain areas a year off or so to rebound from all the overfishing

  • The fishery management is a complete joke and I know some of the agents involved... I remember how good it was back when I first started and if they don't get a handle on the situation I think the species is in trouble... sad...

Good to meet you... Running off to work now so will catch you later...

    Good luck on the water...

    snicker....

  • It's not hard to do :)

  • LOL I know what you mean....

  • I am going to take the high ground and not make any crab jokes here lol..I'm a seafood lover Pappy and those dungeness crabs look awesome.I've had snow crab and king crab legs and I'm quite fond of the lobster that is flown in live from the east coast of Canada (PEI) ...I'm don't think I have seen dungeness crab sold here in Ottawa..Mmmm I love that garlic butter also..I don;t care if I stink for two days after eating it lol

    Rob

  • You know some bad jokes about crabs eh? vbg

  • Yes some very bad jokes..but hey I love bad jokes : )

  • yeehaw! Think I'll head for Denver and get some snow crab, yup. Good vid!

  • I like snowcrab too... And Ofelio... Alaskan Crab is a bit too salty for my taste... And Blue Crab from the Cheasepeak Bay are good too, but never go eat them hungry because you'll go mad trying to get enough meat out fast enough! LOL

  • That was one of your interesting ones :) Thanks mate I liked that....was it snowing there? Cause the ground looked extra white. I have only seen it snow once in my life.
