@TheOtherView Well, unlike America. Sweden is actually free, and everyone has a chance to become whatever they want to be. It doesn't matter where you're from or what you look like, you can live on the street without a penny in the pocket and still be able to go to our finest schools and colleges (School/colleges are free). We're at the very top when it comes to gender equality, health care is absolutely free for anyone, ETC*. Just Google "which countries set the best examples".
"unlike America. "..."everyone has a chance to become whatever they want to be." Huh? Do you know the background of the current president of the United States? The US has no class system unlike much of Europe, and freedom of speech is protected like no other country. Yes, it's not perfect but I'm not sure what you're saying. BTW the U.S. is more diverse than Sweden is it not? Ethnic Swedes make up a staggering 85% of your country. You guys are a bunch of Xenophobes.
@TheOtherView I'm not talking about Europe. Sweden has no "class system". The freedom of speech in Sweden is just as protected, if not even better than in America. Xenophobes, really? Lmao. Had we been xenophobes, there'd be 100% ethnic Swedes. We're letting in more Iraqis than any other country, one of our cities are considered the second most Iraqi populated city in the world, after Bagdad. That city alone ("Södertälje" a.k.a Little Iraq) takes in as many Iraqis as all of USA.
@TheOtherView It's obvious that you don't know shit about Sweden. I suggest you keep reading that wikipedia article you're reading. Perhaps you'll find out how Sweden's more free than America. I've lived in America, that's the difference between you and I - you haven't lived in Sweden. You don't know what it's like here.
I don't know what you have against Sweden, honestly. We're a peaceful people, we're completely neutral and we have a strong and close friendship and cooperation with America. We're the 4th biggest donor of aid to 3rd world countries, and we're a people of only 9 mill. We've done a lot for the world, whether it's inventions or aid or what not.
We're letting in a lot of immigrants, more than most countries, and we're not xenophobes.
@TheOtherView Of course the U.S is more diverse than Sweden, come on. You barely have natives. You're the most diverse country in the world, for the most obvious reasons ever. I don't even know why you brought that up. You had the most slaves to begin with. Your country isn't founded by Americans, but Europeans. I mean come on. Everyone wanted to live in America in the early days.
We've let in immigrants into our country since the very day the first one came here.
@TheOtherView Everyone does not have a chance to become whatever they want to be in the sense that people are born poor/people that are broken down, disadvantaged in ANY KIND OF WAY - they are not given help in USA, it's their own fault, you'd say: how is it? They are given a chance in Sweden. In USA it's every man for himself. International studies show that Sweden is the most democratic country, equal (class/gender) countries and much more.
@TheOtherView Continuation of recent comment: So obtain knowledge before you write.
In the same regard I can't be mad at you; as you're only saying what the U.S media (especially Fox "News" in mind) wants you to say. And I just now realized that you prized US for not having a class system when in fact you have extreme economical clashes and are bordering on fascism. Ex-convicts are not allowed to vote, you make it harder and harder for poor people to vote, is it that the ideal democracy?
Sweden isn't a socialist country. But if you define socialism as a country that helps less fortunate people, provides free healthcare, free schools(including universities, colleges etc.)and a great welfare that helps lower and middle class.
If you're considered "poor" in Sweden you are a middle class citizen in most other countries.
Omg socialism!!! I have heard rumours of such a thing! I have heard socialism means no freedom to step all over your fellow citizens, no freedom to exploit them without government regulations, no freedom to become filthy rich and have 20 cars and 15 houses. Those guys dont know freedom...
that guy Jon Stewart doesn't even know what socialism is, just as most republicans....
Socialism does not mean increasing taxes... Monarchs of the middle ages increased taxes heavily all the time.... does that make them socialist? I think not.
these people need to study what they say, it makes them look bad, along with their country, because they say it a lot on T.V.
@luciferiexcelsil well what idiot you have to be to excepct from someone assumption to be the way for express what he belive in and he's 100% sure of ... there's no relativity on whats right for Economy and whats not - theres a lot of different points of views - but still only one truth ... and i cant make an assumption towards the things i recognize as a facts
Why is the only soundtrack I can hear that stupid song Delyla (or whatever it is called) and no voice? Everyone else seemes to hear what he sais and not any damn music...
In fact, the swiss Constitution (the second oldest in the world) was heavily based on US Constitution. Because of that, Switzerland is not a country that american left-wingers love to put as an example. The most developed region of Europe is not Scandinavia but the Alps, which is a pretty conservative region.
Which of you for all his worrying can add one day to his life, one inch to his stature, So don't concern yourself so much with the means of life, What you shall eat and drink or with your bodies and how they should be clothed. Life is more than clothing. Consider the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or gather into bands, But our Heavenly Father feeds them. Will He not all the more feed you, Are you not worth more than they?
i would do anything for my home country sweden if the natonial party would tell me to kill some little black or white shit that raped and killed in my home country i would do it whit proudness in my heart
" Sweden has achieved an enviable standard of living under a mixed system of high-tech capitalism and extensive welfare benefits. It has a modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled labor force. "
In Sweden the youth unemployment rate is at 27%. In Switzerland is at 8%. Sweden public servants are a fourth of labor force. In Switzerland they are a 1/10. Taxes in Sweden are among the highest in Europe. Swiss taxes are among the lowest. Switzerland enjoy a strong political decentralization that promotes fiscal competition between cantons, which leads to lower taxes and higher public efficiency. They also love guns, healthcare is private and there is not a national social security system.
" Privately owned firms in Sweden account for about 90% of industrial output, of which the engineering sector accounts for 50% of output and exports. Agriculture accounts for only 1% of GDP and of employment. "
Yes Sweden is Socialist. I am Swedish. Our taxrate is at around 60 so it is far above USAs 39. Our taxrate used to be higher when we had the socialist party in power. Now we have the new labour party in power. They are social-liberal. In our parlament we have meny from the left party who openly call them selvs communist.
You think Swedes are manipulated? Ask an American what they're proud of and their answer will be a long list of multinational corporations. It is an artificial pride and if any, Americans are brainwashed to think a certain way. It is a society of us vs them with little religious and political freedom.
It is debatable whether Sweden is a Socialist state as it is built by Social Democrats and acknowledges the need for capitalism with high taxes to redistribute wealth. It is a great system.
get one thing strait people,i come from a capitalist back round(UK) and have lived in sweden for 5 years(going home now) because although there is some very good things about the socialism here the bottom line is if you are a smart intelligent you can see how socialism is a manipulative controlling tool.swedes are extremely controlled and manipulated to think a certain way,the fallout from such a brainwashing is that they are dull very jealous scared people..capitalism promotes individuality..
why people whos poor in the us are against socialist stuff is because they really think that the united states is the greatest country in the world HA...you egotistical capitalistical bastards...and dont fucking eat when your gonna post something u assclown..show some respect for those who wanna hear your ignorant stupid nonmatthering opinions
No, Sweden has a rightwing-centre government. And some years ago we had a socialdemocratic goverment, that was more like the leftwing of the american Democrats.
The current "rightwing-centre government" is FAR to the left of the US Democrats!
There has not been a true right wing party in the Swedish parliament for over 40 years. The biggest right wing party in the 2006 elections got 200 votes... (KLP)
@Djsouthpaw1987 It's no use. People like this guy has fallen victim for the Right-Wing Populist propaganda. The fact is that many of the lower classes are voting conservative parties, while not knowing the consequenses. Ignorant poor sods is what they are.. :P
@xaviqaz That is merely because those leading the country were not doing it well. In which case I can understand the frustration. The state relies heavely upon the fact that those leading the country are able, no matter what politic ideology, and maybe especially in countries which the state is strong.
But the fact of the matter is that increased privatizing WILL result in bigger the differences... Its just a fact.
@xaviqaz True. Then again you seldom hear about all the good things the state does also (altough it would be rather unnatural for everyone to walk around saying how the love the state, but you get my drift). The thing is, a left side party is more exposed to criticism because they are more involved in the lives of people, whilst right side parties more or less leaves everyone to deal with themselves, which means that they cannot be blamed if something goes wrong.. :P
@NorwegianPotato Because the lower class totally deserve handouts paid to them by the rich, like the concept of private property doesn't mean shit anymore. The lower class should not be given money for just existing, and as far as i'm concerned its sink or swim. forced humanitarianism is stupid, libertarianism and social darwinism are always consistent.
@ChrisRamsland94 However, you seem to forget the fact that some lower class people are actually good people.. Believe it or not. Maybe, just maybe there are some people who would like to work, but who are affected by conditions that prevent them from doing so?
If a woman breaks her spine, and is paralyzed from the neck down, are we just going to tell her: "Sorry, it's the survival of the fittest that counts", and let her starve?
@NorwegianPotato Oh I don't doubt that many of them are good people. Lets say this woman dies at 45 as a result of starvation because noone could support her... as opposed to when she's 75 and will die. If she is unable to find the means to survive, then yes she should not be kept alive by the government and should die. Why don't you donate your money to her if you feel so strongly about humanitarianism and keep her alive? nobody is preventing you from doing that.
@ChrisRamsland94 I am too lazy and cheap to help her, and this applies for just about every man and woman in this world. We dont WANT to help others, but we have to. To me you sound like an anarchist. You think that the world would work because some good, loving samaritans will be there to help through voluntary work, but the fact of the matter is, and im one of the few on the left side to admit this, that people generally are bad, and so we need laws to enforce each other to help one another.
@NorwegianPotato anarchy would be chaos, and the government is a necessary evil. I believe that it should have a monopoly on physical force in order to give people equal rights, but not be there to give handouts when people decide to not work. I do respect your opinion even though it tends to suffer from inconsistencies. You are much more coherent than most of the liberals I argue with on here, but I do feel that private property (of the rich) should take priority over humanitarianism.
@ChrisRamsland94 Then we shall agree to disagree. You favour the right to own private property over the equality of man, and i do the opposite. We could have a looong discussion over what is right, but the fact of the matter is that we do not have the answer. Merely opinions. Also, what gave you the idea im a liberal? Hasen't anything ive been saying contradicting liberalism. You are probably refering to liberal in its Americanized sense, where it is on the left side...
@NorwegianPotato ^^ i am, yeah we refer to things incorrectly in our country sometimes. Much of our country also dictates fascism/nazism as extremely conservative (uber republican) and socialism/communism as extreme liberalism (uber democrat), even though the means of attaining such a government setup are nearly identical, and their practices are generally identical as well. and kudos for making our interactions brief :)
@ChrisRamsland94 Hehe, I thought so. Well FYI I am a Socialist. Which in my country is regular left side. As opposed to being far left in America. I am careful in sharing my political orientation with Americans as I know it frightens u, as opposed to Europeans, who are quite familiar with Socialists. :)
Thank u for an interesting debate, anyhow ;)
And good luck getting ur economy up and running :)
Instead of having to pay for college here you get paid about 300$ a month to go there :)
You get quite alot of paid maternity leave and get child support from the goverment for each child you have.
In USA 20% of the people own 85% of the wealth, nothing wrong with making money but
i dont think people shoud be hindered because there parrents couldent pay for college or healthcare for instance, some things shoudent be decided by how much money you got.
About the poor people against socialism-thing; maybe poor people in the US don't know how it works over here, I've come to the conclusion that it has a bad reputation in the US. But basically, what I think is the best thing about "socialism", is that it levels people out, you don't see people living in trashcans in Sweden, nor do you see people in big mansions with 30 sport cars outside. No one's rich and no ones poor, so to speak.
We're not a socialist country, we're social democratic. There's some key differences, and I don't think our politics get a completely correct view from Usa for example. I don't know about the McDonals-thing you got going there, sure it's a succesful company, but so is Ericsson mobile phones, for example, from a "socialist" country as you call us over there.
Ha ha ha! Edward, did you smoke weed before making this? I guess that enough people have been taking this seriously now but you have a point, why does poor people dislike socialism when it benefits them? If the millions Americans who almost can't live of their salaries got to know how much they could earn by working in "socialist" Scandinavia, the embassies/consulates of Denmark, Norway and Sweden would be flooded by applications.
no, sweden is not a socialistic country. we have a mixed economy. the government has for a long time been ruled by the social labour party, but that's not socialism.
Seriously, you find enough time to make videos to post on youtube on topics which you have no clue about. It's fairly obvious how much of a life you have, to spend your time trying to be on camera instead of using wikipedia.
And if you're so in love with the camera that you make videos about stuff which you have no understanding of, why would you not wait until you have finished your meal?
I agree, i should have waited after the meal and given it a great thought. But, I ididn't know that the video was going to be discussed to this extent. I was just messing around
The main problem as i see it is that socialism are seen as communism in USA and we all know what usa think about that. Ppl still remeber the witch hunt on communists in the 1950s. One more problem is that you only have an 2 party system (i know you let in outhers to) and none of thoose whants to be labled "communists" by the outher party. An additional problem is that ppl dont want an tax increse to swedish standard wich is 33% on your salary and an additional 25% on anything you buy.
But by doing that we get free health care, free education inc collage (almost) free daycare. So we dont have to pay health insurance or save up for our kids collage found. I think by increasing taxes you can skip health insurance etc and you will still end up with the same amount of money left each month. I cant rly see any negative sides to the high taxes etc.
If anyone from the us whants to know more or discuss further just contact me.
There's a lot of shitslinging here, where people are more confused about the terminology than the key issue. Define the term "socialism" or "socialist country" first, then argue whether or not Sweden is one. Looking at the essentials, i.e. that you have a social organization relying on collective ownership, then Sweden is a socialist country since de facto, everyone is paying for everyone's health care, education et all. Let's not get nit-picky. The system works.
Sweden's not socialistic. They have a mixed economy etc.
noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
As I said, let's not get nit-picky. Sweden does indeed have a mixed economy, and there are parts of the society that are controlled by the free market, but the important parts (i.e. infrastructure, health-care, education etc.) are financed through taxes, which is rather close to collective ownership. There is no such things as a completely socialist country as per your definitions, nor is there a completely free market either.
It's a lot more left-wing and liberal than the US, but not socialist. The US government seems to think that left-wing and socialist are the same thing.
One thing that is true, is that in the US the government doesn't interfere that much in people's daily life. You have companies instead. I guess you'll like better whatever you're used to and grown up with.
leeo61-"The US government seems to think that left-wing and socialist are the same thing. "
But for decades the right has used socialism as a boogy man to get people to do what they want. Socialism became anything the right didn't' like.
So the confusion is expected.
" US the government doesn't interfere that much in people's daily life. You have companies instead." who interfere in people's lives.. for profit and with out any control from the people.
Sweden is the first sucessful socialist country and was alone until China joined the club, sweden will probably spread its socialistic sucess to other socialistic countries like Cuba and North Korea, first then we can really try to turn other countries like USA into real socialistic paradise. Swedish model was the reason for the new path of China and is a fingerpoint to what future has to give.
A lot of Swedish users here are clearly morons, too. Sweden isn't "socialist", it's capitalist, but with leftish tendencies. The country has never been "socialist" in the sense that is implied by the US republicans. Swedish youths (like most) fill their brains with MTV bullshit nowadays instead of modern history or relevant info. They, and the US republicans, confuse the Socialdemocratic party (which governed Sweden before Moderaterna) with a communist party. Much has been lost in translation.
Watching your video made me hungry! :) Anyways, there are very rick people in Sweden too, even though its a socialist country. We have Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of Ikea, who isn't very far behind Bill Gates when counting the moneys! ;) A disadvantige with socialism is that it makes life and sociaty less free. Socialism is about forcing people to do thinks they instinctivly dont want to do, like to pay more taxes. Or buy less alcohol. A socialist country is a very restricted country. Take care!
Sweden are a socialist country. And the taxies is god. It helps the por pepole in the country, to get god healthcare. It look like USA are afraid to be a socialist country. Whay????
I don't think Sweden is a socialist country, the reason so many republicans call Sweden socialist is because they are so right wing, bordering on fascism that anything to the left is dismissed as "socialism" which "doesn't work". Sweden has a very good welfare state, Republicans are fundamentally opposed to this, they think taxes should be low and that people should pay for their own healthcare, which I believe is wrong.
Jon, you can keep the US where 99% of the population is en debt and 60 millions without held care and 65 % of the population being to fat and I keep all the nice blonds and a healthy society : )
i don't know what to say after listening to you eating those fries, im so irriteated i hardly can breath, hope for all the wimens sake you never get a girlfriend
What are you saying? Can you provide subtitles or speak up please? If your native language isn't english, which I hope it is not, you should recognize this and add subtitles.
On a more serious note. If someone is to fully understand why Sweden is a wealthy country it should explore the policies carried out from 1870 to 1930. This is generally regarded as the period when our country established itself as a industrial society. You will find that the politics of that era was not one of socialism. In fact it was an era of unrestricted free trade and classical liberal politics. 1950 the tax level in Sweden was way below those you find in the US today to.
Sweden is basicly a capitalist country that heavily tax its citizens and companies. IKEA is being displayed as a sucessfull swedish company. But guess what. The founder of IKEA has migrated to Switzerland. Why so you ask? Because he wanted to avoid being heavily taxed. So much for the idea of taxing the rich and distributing the money to the poor. In fact Sweden have now set up a completly different tax regime for the super rich compared to all other people.
Swedish socialism died in the 80's with Olof Palme, the swedish prime minister at the time. After that it was turned into a flip-flop party, and now we have a Capitalist government.
I'm from Sweden as well. Sweden is a capitalist country like almost all countries in the world. Sweden does have a much bigger welfare state and social benefits than for example the US or UK. We have this because of socialistic thoughts and ideology. But no socialistic government, just social democratic governments (which in my opinion is social liberals, but for an American view is really left wing). Today our country is very much neo liberal oriented but still some of the welfare state remains
No Sweden isn't a socialist country. We've had a social democratic goverment for quite some time now, it wasn't until recently that we got a right wing coalition to make goverment.
Sweden is, like most of Europe a social liberalistic country.
Considering Obama is regarded as a crazy, evil, commie in the US (by our standards he'd be waaaayyy too far right for the moderate party) socialism is a nice description.
LiaR800, I would love if you told me what it is that makes USA a much more free country? Except the brilliant idea to let ppl aquire weapons(hope you noticed the sarcasm)!
I live in sweden. its false to state that sweden is socialist. Its a country with a liberalized market. The government just takes some tax to fund education, health care and other fundamental services needed for a stable society. Swedes are too spoiled to recognize what they have and make use of themselves. Sweden will rott and die in its own shit some day, however other countries should follow swedens example of the taxing system(espacially corporations) so to give good services to ppl
Sweden is a great country. I have a good salary and I rather pay 60% of my salary to help those who havent got what I have than keeping them for myself, thats why I like the swedish system and I will be able to get financial help if I loose my job.
so I'd say something in between the US model and the swedish model would be great. We need a more dynamic labour market(uppluckra LAS), less taxes and we could live with some dismantling of the welfare and privatising of the services on local levels, but you need free health care, free education and alot of the welfare we have, it makes the county a better place to live for everyone if there's a certain amount of welfare. In some issues like health, it's a good thing if people help eachother out
No, we are not socialist, socialism is a totalitarian ideology. We have been ruled by the social democrats for quite sometime, although a "liberal"(not quite so liberal as your liberal parties) coalition is ruling now
As a liberal in Sweden I'd say our welfare state is too big and needs a bit of dismantling, however I still think free health care, free education etc. is a good thing, I'm studying at college level now, and we get about 300$ a month from the state
well Socialism isent the answer to the problem it is the problem , FREEDOM is the price to pay for a Equal society and i rather prefer to have my freedom . bcs if a person is so stupid and cant take responsiblility for his own life then he shouldent even be classified as an adult ,
hard to define freedom in english but i can say ,, my right to own property , my right to change ideas , services and property , my right to benefit from almost everything ,,
yea i can own property in a Socialist state but , then i also have to tribiute more to the wellfare state , then they force me to pay extra taxes , if i buy my property im forced to ask Goverment to permit for building my house on my own property lines
You are the total douche. What the fu*k are you talking about? Blachawhawmaw.. Stop chewing with food in your mouth and get an education. Are you serious about the fast-food? Sweden have their own fastfood places and what the hell does it matter? It has nothing to do with politics? Why do the US have IKEA (a swedish brand you probably know nothing about either), does it meen that a capitalist country cant produce their own furniture? You are so stupid it hurts just watching your pathetic rethoric
One misconception that seems common is that Sweden isn't captilistic. It is in much the same way that America is, a market economy. Somehow the fact that healthcare is government run in Sweden makes it socialist. But that's like focusing on the fact that the Postal System is government run monopoly in the USA, while it isn't in Sweden. Does that make the USA socialist?
good point. it´s difficult for most foreigners to understand that the swedish model of socialism is not the same a the communist version (thank god). far from it, in fact. we have more in common with the US system then any form of communism. And people seem to miss out on the fact that we have a right wing party today.
Why sad? I've been living in Sweden, US and Japan. Sweden is far from perfect but I think the average person has it better in Sweden than the US. The US has lots of people living under really poor conditions. In the US the top 10% have huge amounts of money yes, but the remaining 90% have a rather poor quality of life. Amazingly I've found that capatalism work fairly well in Japan, I think it has to do with ammounts of jobs availibale. In the west finding a can job is tough, lazy or not.
Compared to the US they are definitely socialist, BUT, with a constitutional democracy (traditionally a constitutional monarchy, but our royalty is just supposed to cause interesting headlines on the tabloids). Sweden has a multi-party government as opposed to the American 2-party government, so their parties cover just about every area of the political spectrum. But in recent years (though not now) the "Social Democrat party" has been in power.
11 people thinks this is Barack Obama.

In fact, the swiss Constitution (the second oldest in the world) was heavily based on US Constitution. Because of that, Switzerland is not a country that american left-wingers love to put as an example. The most developed region of Europe is not Scandinavia but the Alps, which is a pretty conservative region.

It is a great system.

socialistic policies is like: providing healthcare for everyone in the country.. helping sick and old people.

xaviqaz 1 year ago
@xaviqaz That is merely because those leading the country were not doing it well. In which case I can understand the frustration. The state relies heavely upon the fact that those leading the country are able, no matter what politic ideology, and maybe especially in countries which the state is strong.
But the fact of the matter is that increased privatizing WILL result in bigger the differences... Its just a fact.
NorwegianPotato 1 year ago
@NorwegianPotato But something has changed. I mean, social democrats in Sweden, Norway and Denmark were almost unbeatable
xaviqaz 1 year ago
@xaviqaz True. Then again you seldom hear about all the good things the state does also (altough it would be rather unnatural for everyone to walk around saying how the love the state, but you get my drift). The thing is, a left side party is more exposed to criticism because they are more involved in the lives of people, whilst right side parties more or less leaves everyone to deal with themselves, which means that they cannot be blamed if something goes wrong.. :P
NorwegianPotato 1 year ago
@NorwegianPotato Because the lower class totally deserve handouts paid to them by the rich, like the concept of private property doesn't mean shit anymore. The lower class should not be given money for just existing, and as far as i'm concerned its sink or swim. forced humanitarianism is stupid, libertarianism and social darwinism are always consistent.
ChrisRamsland94 10 months ago
@ChrisRamsland94 However, you seem to forget the fact that some lower class people are actually good people.. Believe it or not. Maybe, just maybe there are some people who would like to work, but who are affected by conditions that prevent them from doing so?
If a woman breaks her spine, and is paralyzed from the neck down, are we just going to tell her: "Sorry, it's the survival of the fittest that counts", and let her starve?
NorwegianPotato 10 months ago 2
@NorwegianPotato Oh I don't doubt that many of them are good people. Lets say this woman dies at 45 as a result of starvation because noone could support her... as opposed to when she's 75 and will die. If she is unable to find the means to survive, then yes she should not be kept alive by the government and should die. Why don't you donate your money to her if you feel so strongly about humanitarianism and keep her alive? nobody is preventing you from doing that.
ChrisRamsland94 10 months ago
@ChrisRamsland94 I am too lazy and cheap to help her, and this applies for just about every man and woman in this world. We dont WANT to help others, but we have to. To me you sound like an anarchist. You think that the world would work because some good, loving samaritans will be there to help through voluntary work, but the fact of the matter is, and im one of the few on the left side to admit this, that people generally are bad, and so we need laws to enforce each other to help one another.
NorwegianPotato 10 months ago
@NorwegianPotato anarchy would be chaos, and the government is a necessary evil. I believe that it should have a monopoly on physical force in order to give people equal rights, but not be there to give handouts when people decide to not work. I do respect your opinion even though it tends to suffer from inconsistencies. You are much more coherent than most of the liberals I argue with on here, but I do feel that private property (of the rich) should take priority over humanitarianism.
ChrisRamsland94 10 months ago
@ChrisRamsland94 Then we shall agree to disagree. You favour the right to own private property over the equality of man, and i do the opposite. We could have a looong discussion over what is right, but the fact of the matter is that we do not have the answer. Merely opinions. Also, what gave you the idea im a liberal? Hasen't anything ive been saying contradicting liberalism. You are probably refering to liberal in its Americanized sense, where it is on the left side...
NorwegianPotato 10 months ago
@NorwegianPotato ^^ i am, yeah we refer to things incorrectly in our country sometimes. Much of our country also dictates fascism/nazism as extremely conservative (uber republican) and socialism/communism as extreme liberalism (uber democrat), even though the means of attaining such a government setup are nearly identical, and their practices are generally identical as well. and kudos for making our interactions brief :)
ChrisRamsland94 10 months ago
@ChrisRamsland94 Hehe, I thought so. Well FYI I am a Socialist. Which in my country is regular left side. As opposed to being far left in America. I am careful in sharing my political orientation with Americans as I know it frightens u, as opposed to Europeans, who are quite familiar with Socialists. :)
Thank u for an interesting debate, anyhow ;)
And good luck getting ur economy up and running :)

Higher taxes but less expenses as well,
Instead of having to pay for college here you get paid about 300$ a month to go there :)

No one's rich and no ones poor, so to speak.
mjonas10 2 years ago
We're not a socialist country, we're social democratic. There's some key differences, and I don't think our politics get a completely correct view from Usa for example. I don't know about the McDonals-thing you got going there, sure it's a succesful company, but so is Ericsson mobile phones, for example, from a "socialist" country as you call us over there.

Pessumdare 2 years ago
But by doing that we get free health care, free education inc collage (almost) free daycare. So we dont have to pay health insurance or save up for our kids collage found. I think by increasing taxes you can skip health insurance etc and you will still end up with the same amount of money left each month. I cant rly see any negative sides to the high taxes etc.
If anyone from the us whants to know more or discuss further just contact me.
and btw, i am not an socialist i am an realist.
Pessumdare 2 years ago
The only problem comes when you tax the industry too much, meaning that people get laid off as companies move their business overseas.

Purgatog 2 years ago 4

hotforsciences 2 years ago
Sweden's not socialistic. They have a mixed economy etc.
noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
Filifjoncan 2 years ago
As I said, let's not get nit-picky. Sweden does indeed have a mixed economy, and there are parts of the society that are controlled by the free market, but the important parts (i.e. infrastructure, health-care, education etc.) are financed through taxes, which is rather close to collective ownership. There is no such things as a completely socialist country as per your definitions, nor is there a completely free market either.
Purgatog 2 years ago
No, Sweden is not a socialist country.
It's a lot more left-wing and liberal than the US, but not socialist. The US government seems to think that left-wing and socialist are the same thing.
One thing that is true, is that in the US the government doesn't interfere that much in people's daily life. You have companies instead. I guess you'll like better whatever you're used to and grown up with.
leeo61 2 years ago
leeo61-"The US government seems to think that left-wing and socialist are the same thing.
Though the US gov still interferes too.

Swedes are too spoiled to recognize what they have and make use of themselves. Sweden will rott and die in its own shit some day, however other countries should follow swedens example of the taxing system(espacially corporations) so to give good services to ppl

so I'd say something in between the US model and the swedish model would be great.

We have been ruled by the social democrats for quite sometime, although a "liberal"(not quite so liberal as your liberal parties) coalition is ruling now

public transport etc), free education, free healthcare, public safety nets.

Wow, you socialists are REALLY stupid... It's really sad :/
LiaR800 2 years ago

Is it to much to ask for you not to eat while your talking.

But in recent years (though not now) the "Social Democrat party" has been in power.

the swedish model of "socialism" with a market economy has WAY more in common with US capitalism than any form of true socialism, such as communism.
