  • So how is that battle for the information domain coming?

  • Man what is this? This doesn't sounds like Deep Purple. Well the singing does, but the music doesnt.

  • Are they using a phrygian dominant scale in this riff 2:20 ?

  • I think this is the only song that Blackmore played with dropped D tuning. Great riff.

  • @LordGoumis err no. this riff was taken from Fire Dance Rainbow, it's dropped D tuning

  • I`m not much of a fan of DP, but the riff here is BRILLIANT.

  • The cattle grazes on

  • ahh,yezzz...1993-the end of the last true HM era,and DP sent it out w/ a bang - terrific song, kick-ass lyrics --- this should be at the end of all young musician's required listening list (1966-1993) when they are learning what HM should sound like

  • @akibubba1 Soo true man..

  • deep purple really love using those arabic riffs

  • he he... DP

  • one cool song, ian gilian rockkkkkkks

  • Ritchie's best solo since Highway star./

thumbs up if you agree please.

  • @cherkestorm I would agree with you if you weren't a thumbs up whore.

  • love the riff oneo f the best riffs ever

  • I just don't get it, all the DP albums have so little views on youtube, Deep Purple is my favorite band and it is also the best, I absolutely LOVE EVERY SINGLE SONG that they have made since 1968, THEY FREAKING ROCK!

  • this piece of carbon was actually one of the first rock/metal record I ever listened to, along with dp's machine head and some hendrix stuff. The whole oriental sort of scale, the cool chorus, the incredible solos, all of this stuff just blew me away, and I was like 8 or 9 yo. I now realize this isn't representative of deep purple's legacy at all, but still, this is what made me want to listen to heavy metal, and I can't say I regret it at all

    thanks for the memories !

  • imagine the 70's Ian Gillan Singin' this song.....with the fuckin Scream and all, it would be EPIC

  • Great!!

always great, thanks Distantfox for this!! :)

P.S. I made a version of The Battle Rages On in my channel... :)

  • annihilation, kill 'em all--capitulation, watch the mighty fall ! - nice and catchy, and the best melody within one of the last true metal songs ever penned - when "they"(pretty much anybody) start writing them like this again, I'll start listening to newer music - 'til that time, the cutoff date remains early 90's (and, of course, 60's to 80's remains the best of the best...)

  • Terrific - thanks SO much!! If you don't like it, blame Blackmore!!!

  • Terrific - thanks SO much!!

  • this is the best song in rock muzik

  • Ian Paice is BETTER than Neil Peart!!

  • @jeffreygaudreault I agree!!!!

  • What year was this album released?

  • @LedZep98100

    1993 dude!!!

  • @micheleafricano thanks

  • this song is "only" fantastic. deep purple=the best

  • Stunning... Im just sad Purple dissolved when they played they best songs, like Perfect strangers, soldier of fortune, and this one here. Ya Morse is not bad but without Blackmoore Deep Purple is not Deep Purple anymore. Ah yes and without Jon Lord? Man it's a joke. :S

  • Soo underated CD! Unreal!!!

  • @elouroeides i knw dude it was a joke!

  • very powerfull song and wonderful vocals...

  • @elouroeides yeah i think so.....nice vocal huh.....

  • @elouroeides nice vocal huh...

  • Yeah!!!

  • Flawless Masterpiece is hitting the nail right on the head

  • "OLD SCHOOL RULES"

  • Még mindig a mester a legjobb! Mr Ritchie Blackmore!

  • @tacsu1 Kétség sem férhet hozzá...de azért Morse bácsit is szeretjük...:)

  • this song is so powerful..wonderful riff from Ritchie(as always..)

  • This song is the shit.

  • @posthumanoid dude! u r shit. ;)

  • @hary202

dude! "THE shit" means "awesome" ;p

  • Old school metal? This is True Rock, plain and simple!

  • Old school metal? This is True Rock, plain and simple!

  • Old school metal -> hell yeah! One of the best riffs ever.

  • A wonderful Song! Blackmore is and was the Soul of Purple! Anja (live) is one of the best Live Songs i`ve ever heart.

  • Best.

  • killing bass and drums... so fuckin' amazing....

  • Great album....so many great songs, moods, textures...far superior to 'House of Blue Light' imo...

  • oh!purple!

  • still on the rock,gratulaction

  • Old schoo break-up it takes years

  • Drop D

  • NICE!!!

  • The intro riff kick ass!

  • Kapitalne!

  • LOVE this song and album. Totally underrated.

  • I can see so much influence from this on bands of today.

  • why all talents were born in UK and rose in 70s...

  • This song is AWESOME!!!

  • Is P E R F E C T , end.

  • Hard Rock

  • @DreamHealer87 at its best!

  • METAL!!!

  • They said this was a bad album....NOT AT ALL!!! Deep Purple rules....

  • thank you for the bigest band for every time -DEEP PURPLE !

  • Happy Birthday Richie!!!! 4-14-2010

  • man, this takes me back. I used to have this on tape waaaaay back and completly forgot about it. awesome stuff, cheers, you've made my day! Gotta love you tube!

  • I don´t care shit whos in the band. it is a fucking great band, a real pleasure to watch anytime.

  • 0.18 to 0.38 classic headbanging

    :-))))))

  • Good song. The Battle album was ok overall imo. Time To Kill, Ramshackle Man and Solitaire were the other standouts for me. I'd certainly say the production on the album was very polished.

  • @DCHurlford1 Anya too is a good song, i think! :)

  • @vivafra87 Yeah Anya is a decent song as well, i'd forgotten about that one.I basically like about half the album.

  • classic !

    this guitar melody is fantastic.

  • I cant believe this album isnt on iTunes...hat3z0rs...

  • he's a great guitarman whatever he does -

he knows how to express so masterfully through his guitarsound

  • Awsome!

  • I kind of empathize with your view on Airey nut will never understand that people listen to DP with Morse and can be fullfilled in a way ONLY Blackmore can achieve.

RB is FEELING all the way, Morse is a machine...

  • Anyona after 16 wasted years of the wrong man for DP still thinking Morse is the one who deserves so much credit?

    Get a shrink!!!!

  • Morse is with Deep Purple now, get over it. I'm a big Blackmore fan, and Blackmore will always be the best, we all know that, but it's a shame you are so biased you have to talk shit about Morse for no reason. Ritchie and Steve's styles are different. Deep Purple didn't want someone that played like Ritchie, when he left, therefore they chose Morse. I guess you like to talk shit about Gillan too, right? Just because he doesn't sing like he did back in the day... You know I'm right!

  • the best!! ritchie!!!!!

  • OMFG!!! i have never listened this song until i watched "Come Hell or High Water"....this is awesome!!! the riff is so exciting!!!!I have to play this song on guitar!!!!!BLACKMORE TOTALLY RULES!!!!

  • Can't get rid of that riff out of my head, it's impressive how powerful and original it is

  • fuck that riff so sooooo cool !

you can never really get enough of it

  • they're completely different players, Morse is happy, Blackmore is a very dark person and his guitar is more "Wiccan"

but DP has always been a rock band w/jazz influence poking out here and there, a great line up always, I wish Bolin had lived, I think their next would have been killer

  • The diffrence between Blackmore and Morse is that Blackmore is a genius composer (just look at all his songs and riffs). Morse is a great guitarist and plays as good (if not better) than Blackmore; but Morse just doesnt create such great songs...

  • @ljkm02 Morse is not better than Blackmore...he isnt even a pimple on blackmores ass!

  • Well put! But there is some fantastic stuff with Morse too. He is a joy to watch Live, with Purple, solo or with the Dregs, but Blackmore will always be my #1 guitarman in DP. It's a shame he has retired from hardrock.

  • Are you now complimenting me or yourself? You re young. Too young to see the REAL DEAL live?

I Like SILVER TONGUE, the song. They would have been more convincing if they had stuck to their guns and play at least 80 % Morse era material live.

And nope, you are not right.

Arguing is hopeless while this something which be evident. lots of people go to the gigs. Appearantly they dont care who is in the band. Do you?

  • I've seen Blackmore's Rainbow in 1997, one of my first concerts, and I've seen Blackmore's Night numerous times, and have had the privelidge to meet and greet the man in black himself. Yes, I was too young to see MK.IIs reunion concerts between 1984 and 1993. I DO care about who's in the band. You got 3 guys who's been with the band and written some of the best songs (along with Blackmore and Lord), for ages still there, rocking. Don Airey...he is no Lord, but the man is a legend.

  • Don Airey played with Ritchie in Rainbow, w. David in Whitesnake, Ozzy, Living Loud... The man is a legend, nowere as good as Lord, but he does the band justice. Steve Morse is great, and I often tend to be a bit biased towards Blackmore, as I'm a big fan, but Steve is great. He has the guts to not copy Ritchie's playing, and I think that's great. I would love to see more Morse era songs as well, especially from 'Purpendicular' and 'Bananas'. Ritchie is no longer there, but they're still good.

  • @ljkm02 I don't agree with you about Steve Morse. He's proven his abilities as a composer in many occasions: just pick any Dixie Dregs' album, "Power" or "In the Spirit of Things" by Kansas or any solo album. He is a hugely talented instrumentalist AND composer / arranger. Obviously an aged band like Deep Purple is way more focused on touring and showcasing the old material we all want to see live, than in new releases and new compositions. DP doesn't need another songwriter / hit composer.

  • @ljkm02 I totally agree.

  • live in Antwerp 18/11/09, this song rocked!

  • Simply the best - Purple still rule the rock world in 2009. Timeless classics.

  • satriani ruleees yeahhh

  • It's a flawless masterpiece.

  • Blackmore is the best!!!!!!!

  • deep purple are fucking great no matter what lineup,

  • one word-

    amazing.

  • this album show that Deep Purple are: Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Ritchie Blackmore...

  • you sound like an idiot. no matter how hard you try to lie, i guarantee you have never seen ritchie blackomre live. SHUT UP

  • Wrong there buddy I've seen Deep Purple and theres no Deep Purple like the MK II lineup with Gillan and Blackmore, as a matter of fact its the only Deep Purple!!

  • all the other new bands out there, learn from your elders, THIS IS FUCKIN' OLD SCHOOL METAL!

  • @Zusik12900 never was old school metal ,always been heavy rock

  • Comment removed

  • @Zusik12900 Oh,aye...everybody can learn from the Purples...but this is not metal,it's pure Rock.^^

  • @Glorywyn It's pure awesomeness is what it is.

  • @Zusik12900 Actually it's not. This was released in 1993 I think. (thought the main riff was played by Ritchie in Rainbow.)

  • This is my favorite song on the whole album if not my favorite Deep Purple song! Just a killer riff on this one!

Ritchie Blackmore rules!...But not as much as Tony Iommi...

Blackmore is a king while Iommi is a god!

  • With respect, but Ritchie Blackmore is more tecnical and virtuoso. He is more solist than "riffer", despite being classified like "king of riff" for Smoke On The Water. But yours principal substance is the solos.

  • For smoke on the water?

what about space truckin, Lazy , Speed King, Into the fire!!!

Richie Blackmore is a legendary riffer

  • Yes, he created great "riffs", but your solos became him a virtuoso. The solos in Pictures of Home; Highway Star are good examples.

  • Amen to that, Sabbath man! (I'm an absolute fanatic about Black Sabbath, but Deep Purple... Man, not much can top them!)

  • Tell me you're not serious.

  • Blackmore the King of ROCK N ROLL

  • Deep Purple created metal

  • "We weren't heavy metal, we SPAWNED heavy metal." -Ian Paice.

  • A great album :) for the song i remember the first time i heard the riff - instantly i said this is Blackmore it can't be no other!

    charlessavarese - nicely put :)

  • legend

  • Super. Coś pięknego ;]

  • now that's what I call music!!! awesome

    \m/

  • I 've got this album in 1995 .I remember that I've got a great choc hearing the battle rages on ,Anya and solitaire...It was so great and merveilleux....

  • DP's music is more tasteful, mature, and sophisticated than straight-up heavy metal. Their huge body of work contains elements of jazz, blues, and classical. And their legendary onstage extended jams venture further into the unknown than any metal band you can name. While HM is usually driven by agression, and frustration, DP's music expresses a much greater array of emotions. "We weren't heavy metal, we SPAWNED heavy metal." -Ian Paice.

  • It also depends on the bands. A lot. Dp is the first band I listened to, and was my ticket into hard rock and heavy metal, and I love it, but there are metal bands that are as sophisticated and everything you want as Dp. It's just different (fortunately, listening to 50 bands who sound the same would be boring). And heavy metal does not necessarily express violence and frustration either : do you really have listened to it ?

  • Although this was written and recorded some 16 years ago, the lyrics describe the state of affairs in today's world.

  • You couldn't be more right! Pretty scary what's coming! Great insight.

  • Hardly difficult. There will always be conflict.

  • That's fuckin' Brilliant! This is almost Heavy Metal!

  • sounds good, but not like deep purple :(

from which album is that song?

  • the album and song are the battle rages on

  • great

  • great stuff... and loosers - shut the fuck up...

  • fack this is like gillan's band not really purple :(

  • this lick is so fuckin great !!

ritchie simply does have this special gift.

He doesn't hit it always but sometimes....

  • to me super song really,

such a great riff, nice lyrics as well,

solo is like always from blackmore outstanding

  • nice song.....Blackmore rules!!! Great arrangements, amazing solo!!!!

  • Really heavy song. Great Album.

  • Ian Gillan is the best heavy metal voice, forever and forever, great theme, best album

  • ian gillan dont sing metal -.-

  • The closest Gillan every came to metal was when he was in Black Sabbath

  • yea i know

  • Decent song but, certainly not their best. Come on! You need to go back through their llibrary of incredible work. The solo is incredible on this but, when isn't Richie incredible on the solos? This is the only song on here worth a listen though. The album sounds disjointed and rushed. Coincedently they fired Joe Lynn Turner half way through and reworked the whole thing with Ian Gillen. I guess they made a mistake.

  • The album does not sound disjointed and rushed. Geez, open your ears !!!

As far as going back through their library of incredible work, that's fine, but trying to compare them, that's a foolish thing to do in my opinion. It's different eras, different productions and the band members themselves were different. This album blows away anything Sabbath (with Ozzy) or Zeppelin did by the end of their recording careers.

  • Very underrated song - I'd even say it's one of their best. The album on a whole is pretty weak thought, the only other noteworthy song being twist in the tale

  • underrated album, underrated song!

  • underrated band

  • I think this was such underrated album. It has some of Ritchie's best guitar work on it. It's an album that reflected the times. Nice to see Deep Purple plays this song in there's shows.

  • i loved this song instant i heard it,

  • This is fuckin' epic guys!

  • This is the last Great album of Deep Purple, anything after this album is a waste of time and money.

  • ABSOLUTELY agree on that!

    (exc. for purpendicular maybe...)

  • great song

  • The fuckin' BEST!

  • wtf total disagreement:

    Deep Purple = Hard Rock

Deep Purple = NOT heavy metal
