@KirkHammettable You must realize that a flight from JFK-CCS may not get enough passengers to completely fill a 767 so the 757 is used. 757s on transatlantic flights are pretty comfortable actually. Service is more personal and Continental now has AVOD on their 757s. Plus JFk-CCS is not transatlantic lol.
757's to and from Europe is a damnation as far as I am concerned. Continental due to their obsession with flying narrow body mid range jets on routes they were not designed for creates alot of flow issues in the NY area because you constantly hear crews declaring "min fuel" by the time they check in with NY app. It screws the rest of us over.
During the winter months they use the 767-200. My folks were supposed to come visit here in Berlin for xmas, but the plane was overbooked a month in advance, no matter which day you choose.
I absolutely agree! This is terrible practice to fly trans Atlantic routes with narrow body jets. Those are not comfortable enough to sit more than 4 hrs inside. Besides I have impression Continental is overbooking every single flight.
It is not soo much the fact that it is a narrowbody as much as the fact it is a narrow body that does not fit the mission. My airline uses the 757 trans atlantic as well and we run into fuel issues more times than not. as far as overbooking goes, all majors overbook. It is standard practice. This is to account for no shows. Standard business practice. The 757 was designed as an advanced replacement to the 727 which it serves well. It does not have the legs for Europe though.
@henson2k That's only your opinion that they aren't comfortable enough to sit in for more than four hours. I flew on a 757 from Seattle - Washington Dulles, Salt Lake City - Cincinatti, and San Diego - Atlanta, and in my opinion, they were all very comfortable for me, I loved it. The narrow body part doesn't have anything to do with it, at least the seats are okay.
@Pober135 No it's not ONLY my opinion. I know at least 7 men and women which share my thoughts. Anyway if you sleep entire flight then narrow body probably is OK.
@henson2k Okay, but then it's your opinion, the seven men and womens' opinions, and probably many other peoples' opinions too. But just because you share the same thoughts with those people, doesn't make it true. And for anyone who doesn't like a narrow body, sleeping on a narrow-bodied plane would be okay. But for me, I like to look out the window and I'm not picky about whether planes are narrow-bodied or not like you and other people, it seriously doesn't make a difference to me.
@Learjetjock 757s range is 3900 nautical miles, average flight between london / newark is 3015 nautical miles, however need add weather and ATC NYs, which has issues, i do agree about other hubs ie, barcelona, and maybe berlin, but hey, those continental pilots can always drop into halifax and fill up, dont forget the credit card.....
The noise you hear right at the start of the video, and every so often you hear it again (a higher pitch noise that doesn't last too long) is the flaps/slats motor.
That my friend is the beautiful sound of the 757 Flap motor as the flaps are being deployed. One of the most beautiful sounds on any airplane and one reason I love the 757.
that it is, and we were not the only 757 landing there. Out of all my flights "home" to Newark, it's always on the 4s or 22s. While driving home, I noticed 3 other 757s on approach for 11.
This video is nice

@yoyoluc yeah, i guess. People from the U.S. only go to Venezuela for buisness. I guess its the europeans who go there for holidays. Oh well.

WTF IS UP ON 6:08 ???
TheHacker178 2 years ago
Relax, nothing is wrong at 6:08. It was an engine oil burnout in the maintenance hangar. The engine was on a stand, and not a jet.
CaptHog 2 years ago
I forgot to mention that the reason I know this, is because my friend is a Mechanic with Continental, and he was one of the workers on that engine.

This looks like a runway 11 landing, which I find a bit interesting coming from Europe.
