So beautiful, so tragic. There's a great (Oscar-winning) short film out there called "The Accountant" about the decay of American farming. Really worth checking out if it's a topic of interest to you.
Glad i got to work for 5 years now with Levon up here in Woodstock ...Mr Gill is a true farmer and an even better true gentleman....if anyone is able to make it to NY try to come up to Levons for a ramble if you can get tickets if not then try to make it up this way on Colombus day weekend every year he does a free show at Gill farms..its a show not to miss with a few special guests every year
I saw Levon last night In Vancouver. I think he may have had a bit of a cold but to be honest he could really barely sing. But ill be goddamned if he didnt give it every thing he had to get out what little he could. It was a little heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. And the concert was awesome. At 70 years old it was obvious hes still having a great time up there. My son is a year old and when Ophelia comes on he gets so excited and jumps up and down. Makes me so proud.
there is a song i heard that i really like and i think its on this album but not sure. i think the song is called the golden bird or something like that? do you have that song too that i could hear? thank you.
i'm so lucky i was born at a time when i remember the band just released music from big pink, and levon helm still has that essence and like a fine wine has aged to a great standard in music with his truth about real people going through real tough times, that i really wasn't aware of,best of luck to those people in america. thank you mr.helm !!
What an amazing guy...I wish a lot more people could appreciate this music, not only for the sound, but what he's talking about, what he's trying to say to us.
Thank you Mr. Helm for this song, this video and for "Coal Miner's Daughter". You were a worthy choice to portray the man of whom Loretta Lynn sang "They Don't Make 'Em Like My Daddy Anymore."
it happens ewerywhere.hope you dont mind that my engelish is too good,i am norwigian an have a lot of kinds over there and its the same here but in the end i know, you cant eat computers, can you.and then what?well we will all be gone, mean the ones who knew how to farm the land
What a lovely man Levon Helm is. A true gentleman and great musician. I get shivers listening to this, much as I used to listening to King Harvest etc all those years ago. A living legend.
It's really awesome to see Levon finally getting the respect he deserves by having a new hit album and this Grammy winning album "Dirt Farmer". Alot of reviewers bust on Levon's older solo albums, but giving them another listen has paid off really well. His "American Son" lp for example....
Thought (for a moment!) it was Levon singing on Klondike Pete and the Huskies Winter Wonderland - terrific video. Maybe Levon should do a Xmas album!!
Takes a guy who sang about this same thing starting to happen thirty-five years ago- nobody listened then. I sure hope they do now- I have friends losing their farms right now- and when they're gone, so is a part of True America. Farms sold off, land turned into strip malls, fat greedy men in business suits living large, yeah, they tried this in the '20's too. Don't let it happen, youth of today!! Vote. Talk. Play music write songs share the mssg take it to the streets boycott!! God Bless Levon!
Nobody better to comment on the current state of America than a guy who was saying the same thing thirty-five years ago....when will people WAKE UP and really LISTEN to what he's saying? I hope this video helps- I have friends losing their farms, and that's that. End of an era. Real America gone...forever. Don't let it happen, ya young whipper-snappers!!
I know a poor old farmer, my uncle. Except he grows pecans and peaches. He lost a grandson a few yrs back . It was pecan season and the grandchild fell off the tractor and was crushed. My Uncle was very heart broken when it happened.
I am only 31 but after watching the Last Waltz I am fascinated by Levon Helm. When he sings and drums at the same time during "up on Cripple Creek" I was an instant fan. Doing research and realizing he is still at it just makes me even more amazed. Levon your a legend.
The man´s still got it, but who thought otherwise? Levon´s keeping it real and I love him for that, Greetings from Sweden! Come over and play some tunes, the beer´s on me!
I love levon voince and personal approach to his songs Does Levon ever tour He sould bring this message to college campus Like Umass or Mass mutual center?
So this basically sends my love for Levon through the stratosphere. Nice guy, loyal husband, beautiful singer, kickass drummer, and of course alumni of my beloved The Band. God bless you Levon!
He's left all a-lone, but he aing quite dead...class, love it, but I gotta go dig some irish spuds now, yes sir, gotta go dig some irish spuds: look out sir, here I come....
Been looking for this for months, heard it once on a crackly radio station, didnt catch the name of song or artist, no-one else knew, found it at last...now my life is better...Levon is some man....
What a song! Fell off his tractor, got up under the wheel and now his head is shaped like a tread! how can you beat that line? Get to one of his rambles! Really good time, though some one dank most of my beer!

If you're only 15 and you enjoy this man's music and especially this song, you are light years ahead of your age and that's a great thing these days.
You obviously have your head screwed on straight!
There should be more kids like you who appreciate just plain good music!
Stay true to what you believe in, don't follow fads or pathetic fashion trends and keep rockin and enjoyin the good stuff kid!
Spread the word!
