Schade das es diese Lieder nicht auf deutsch gibt die Übersetzungen stimmen zwar nicht immer ganz mit dem Original überein sind aber trotzdem sehr schön anzuhören :-)
I wonder how many know Gandolf in his Maia form? I was fortunate enough to see him in it a couple of times. He is quite handsome in it, has kinda haunting eyes. Its sort of weird having seen him with the burly wizards beard & hat to going to a youthful smooth skin/ no stubble face. He goes from grey hair to a sort of flaxen blonde or dirty blonde thats almost the lightest shade of brown. His eyes were almost like a grey greenish /blue & nearly translucent. He looks only as if he were 20-25.
@underworldisis how do you know how he looks? where did you see it? I want to see that too :D I just read all the three parts of the lord of the rings and of cause saw the movies but there is so much depth in Tolkiens work o0 you never know what to find and where you can find it o0
@simfamSP Yeah, Gandalf is awesome. He's definitely my second favourite character (after Bilbo, of course, but the best parts are when both of them are together).
When I read the books I make up tunes for the songs and sing them aloud to myself, and while this isn't what I imagined (I'd thought it would be slower and sadder) I still enjoyed this very much. The Tolkien Ensemble has undertaken a very noble project. Listening to this song has made me feel sad- now I have to go finish The Two Towers to remind myself that Moria is not the end of Gandalf.
Hehe, I did leave out Sam's lines at the end which are a whole lot livelier :-P. They certainly cheer you up.. until the depressing music comes to finish it off.
This song has a nice tone, and the singing voice is good. But it is not what I imagened it would sound AT ALL. Maybe I thought it would be a little sadder, don't know. I just don't like this version that much.
Due to popular deman (okay, there wasn't actually any demand) there are now subtitles in the annotations so you can sing along if you don't know the words! You can turn these off if you want.
You're right about that, but this is the intention of the last bit. Frodo is a thoughtful hobbit, while Sam is a simple mind somehow. Tolkien wrote it like that and I think the music reflects that thought very good.
Although another reason I didn't want to is because I couldn't find any suitable pictures! :P (the pictures directly link to the words at the time in most cases).
Gandalf is all good. He is main opponent of Sauron.

The music isn't the way i imagined it, but it's pretty good. The lyrics always touch my heart, though.

do you know who made the painting at 1:35
Hermoor 2 years ago
That one is by Roger Garland (someone a few comments down said it looks like Tom Bombadil but the title for it is 'Gandalf').

I LOVE THE PAINTINGS!!!

Most of the artists are in the description, but a couple I couldn't find.
socksandwich 2 years ago
Yes, the Tolkien Ensemble did a very good job with both the music and vocals.

Nope, it's Gandalf.
socksandwich 3 years ago
The yellow boots and blue coat and crown hat really makes him look like T.B., where did you get the image?
devilgryphon 3 years ago
It's by Roger Garland, who has done quite a few other paintings. It's on his website.
Although I agree the picure does fit well with Tom's descriptions.
socksandwich 3 years ago
What are the sites where you got the images?
(reply and put the links in description, please)
devilgryphon 3 years ago
Youtube doesn't like links, I tried putting it on before. His website is 'lakeside-gallery', though, and you can easily find it from there.

Yeah it's probably one of my favourites on the CDs. I did take off Sam's bit at the end though.. I don't think it really fitted with the rest.
