with all due respect.........Buddhism existed more than 500 years before Christianity and Islam we know came later than Christianity so can be and it should be said that MUSLIMS pray like BUDDHIST's not vice versa, because Buddhism taught the way of life way before ISLAM existed........so it can be said that Islam might have been influenced but Buddhism not vice versa......:)
There is no similarity between them and muslims. Muslims worship one Allah while these people are bowing to statues which mushrikeen always do weather they are buddhists, hindus, or shinto.
Assalamualaikum brother I think you mistranslated the word HANAFI the follower of imam ABU HANIFA is called HANAFI & there's no such a word PURE MUSLIM
Zakir Nair isn't exactly honest when it comes to Buddhism. He likes to say that Buddhist scripture predicts the coming of Mohammed, when Buddhist scriptures don't make predictions.
Title is misleading. These people are prostrating to idols which do no good nor harm, these idols can't even protect themselves. Muslims don't worship man made idols.
What a strange conclusion. You see a few buddhist women bowing in a similar way to muslims, and you conclude that what they pray, what they think, who they pray to etc. is the same. First of all: praying is not a physical exercise. Second of all, not all buddhists bow in this way (perhaps typically Korean?). Third of all: muslims pray to the god, buddhists don't have a god. Etc. etc. etc.
Perhaps you should try reading a book or talking to people about their religion.....
Jesus died for your sins. He was buried and rose again FOR YOU! Believe in Jesus and you are saved forever from hell and possess the free gift of eternal life. Jesus said in John 6:47: Verily, verily, I say unto you he that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Do you believe this?

@MW2mostwanted Naik proposes that the Qur’anic mention of the fig tree (95.1-5) refers to Buddha as well, since he attained to enlightenment at the foot of one. Some scholars accept this theory and, as support for this position, point out that the eleventh-century Muslim historian of India, al-Biruni, referred to Buddha as a Prophet. Others dismiss this last piece of evidence and explain that al-Biruni was merely describing that people in India regarded Buddha as a prophet.
@thichthongtrang2008 You have a different paradigm. Islam did not begin in 622 Ad. According to Muslim beliefs, Adam, Abraham, Jesus etc were all Muslims
@moinansari of course muslims say that - they would wouldn't they. LOL. Buddhism pre-dates islamism by about 1,000 years - so who copied who? most jews don't pray like muslims or buddhists, most christians don't pray like buddhists. most muslims do pray like buddhists.
Buddhists comes first than Islam. So it is wrong to say Bhuddhist pray like Islam. Islam comes last after all great religion in this world and I just don't why they always like to claim other religion follows them, so stu....
Buddhism existed about a 1000 years BEFORE Islam.......dude-you got it mixed up. Buddhist do not pray to anyone-the symbolization of the kneeling is a way to show respect. and finally, "Buddha" is not a god-it is a state of mind. it translates as "the awakened one"
@azrael407 Your comment is based on your own belief system. Muslims believe that Islam existed at the time of Abraham and he was a Hanafi (pure Muslim)--in fact the Quran clearly says that Abraham was neither a Muslim nor a Sabin, he was a Muslim". Peace to you and your belief system. This video was posted to show the commonality of religions and the common ground
@moinansari hey dude no offense meant-and yes there will always be common ground between different cultures due to the fact that, that is how people develop their own (borrowing is a basis in all cultures-development is all their own)-anyway-my point was that though similarities connect many belief structures, you have to acknowledge the differences (in this case) because Buddhism is not a religion. the kneeling is purely a cultural similarity not one based on beliefs.
@moinansari .....now if you're comparing monothestic religions-i would say you would have more of an impact due to the fact that they all have a major basis that is a similarity-the belief in one god.
@azrael407 : that's a very good explanation. I'm Buddhist and I want to share some more information.
we don't pray to God or to the Bouddha. "Kotama" (the Bouddha) was born as the ordinary man, getting old and died like other human being. What he taught is the truth of the world--or Dhamma. This is the body language to show our faith and respect. In some countries such as Bhutan they even lay down on the ground to show their highest respect.
@azrael407 Yup azrae i get sick of these muslims comparing buddhism to islam just to use buddhist stature for their own pleasing. Buddhist dont believe in the giant man living in the skies who kills all infidels, Nor do they worship out of fear of the giant man. Nor are buddhist after the mission of converting everyone by any means. all i wish is muslims learn a little about other religions before jumping into conclusions
Some scholars associate the prophesied future Buddha Maitreya, the Loving or Merciful One, with the Prophet Muhammad as the servant of the Merciful One. Although the truths that Buddha realized under the fig tree are not described as revelation, later great Buddhist masters have received revelations of sacred texts, such as Asanga in fourth century India directly from Maitreya in Tushita, the Heaven Filled with Joy.
@moinansari why do you say budhists pray like moslems? surely, if there is a similarity in the posturing etc, it means that moslems pray like buddhists - not the other way round. it's an older religion.
@moinansari Although, I agree whole-heartedly that eschewing comments aimed at Islam with the intent of harm is never warranted. Your posts have merit though I would like to point out that if you tell a Buddhist that the founder of Buddhism may have been a Muslim prophet may, in fact, insult them. Though Buddhists rejoice in the multiplicity of religions, to think that a Monotheistic creator exists is contrary to their main beliefs, as the Buddha taught otherwise.
Naik also proposes that the Qur’anic mention of the fig tree (95.1-5) refers to Buddha as well, since he attained to enlightenment at the foot of one.
@moinansari It probably only appears that way. Actually, Allah s.w.t.a. made the qur'an superior over all religions. Buddha was never mentioned in the qur'an as a prophet.
@mrsokla The mid-twentieth century scholar, Hamid Abdul Qadir, in his Buddha the Great: His Life and Philosophy (Arabic: Budha al-Akbar Hayatoh wa Falsaftoh), postulates that the Prophet Dhu’l-Kifl, meaning “the one from Kifl,” mentioned twice in the Quran (21.85 and 38.48) as patient and good, refers to Shakyamuni Buddha. Although most scholars identify Dhu'l-Kifl with the Prophet Ezekiel, Qadir explains that “Kifl” is the Arabicized form of Kapila, short for Kapilavastu.
@moinansari Hamid Abdul Qadir is not a very popular scholar. I've never heard of him. But, that is nice to know. No disrespect to Buddha at all either. I believe, from what I have heard, that he was a very respectable man and had many children. His ancestry is probably still alive today. It would be in humanities best interest to do away with their life of luxury and live with very little in society. However, I don't know very much about Buddha either.

Nctrls211: Many Buddhists pray to God--the ultimate step of Nirvana is merger with the the Supreme being.
The Quran describes One lakh twenty four thousand propehts but only lists a few. Many Muslims believe that Al-Yassa mentioned in the Quran is the Buddha. Dr.Zakir Naik never said that Buddha was a Prophet of Allah.
Nctrls211: Your Islamphobic comments about Islam reveals your racism and bigotry.
We could also say a lot about your religion--but won't.
According to Muslim beliefs, Adam, Abraham and Moses were all Muslims. It always amazes me that the denizens of the world's largest Nehuistocracy have no clue about Islam and its beliefs--even though Bharat has a large Muslim population.
What sounds different to you may not be so strange.
The purpose of this post was to show the similarities between the different religions and build interfaith harmony. We will not disparage any other religion as you have done.
There is commonalities between both Buddhism and Islam.
Show me any evidence in the Quran that Buddha is a prophet. Muslims are bunch of liars there is no verses of Buddha being a prophet in the Quran. Jesus and Abraham weren't Muslim they were Jews. Islam wasn't invented before this Muhammad bullshit.
moinansari stop misrepresenting Buddhism its no where near Islam.
@nctrls2 Actually, Jesus and Abraham may peace be upon them were muslim. The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them You see? Islam is to remain steadfast in religion. Islam was not perfected until the time of our blessed prophet peace be upon him.
Muslims pray to God, Buddisths do not believe in God, Buddah was a human being, meditation in Buddhism is to be made with the purpose of our mind enlightment, not to ask for miracles, favors, or mercy...
Buddhists don't pray like Muslims, because we don't have a god. Some sects within Buddhism do prostrations to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, as a sign that they take refuge in them as being the supports to free oneself from suffering. Also, the act of prostrating oneself to a superior figure (a king, a god, a guru) has existed in Asian cultures since time immemorial - so the similarity is merely superficial and nothing to make a big deal about.
If they are praying to the statue of Buddha, thinking that he is God, they are not praying like muslims at all. God is not attributed to anything material at all. God is not a thing. Look within yourself and you shall know God.
In Buddhism, Lord Buddha is not a person or any statue, although portrayed that way, but a Buddhist who practices understands our Buddha nature is that which is NOT form, NOT feeling, NOT perception, NOT formed, NOT consciousness.
We also sacrifice self, anatta, or practice not self, this is Islam...to offer all that is self to Buddha...allowing only our own enlightened Buddha mind to prevail.
A Buddhist also lives by the Panch sila or 5 precepts 1) refrain from killing 2) refrain from
Buddist people do not see Buddha as a god and this kind of worship is diffrent from what muslims are doing to Allah. Since the buddhist pay RESPECT this way but the muslim WORHSIP this way I can tell since I am a person who is muslim but also listins to buddha's teachings.
Islam is a retarted religion.. please do not compare a realistic religion like Buddhism with Islam.. Buddhists are more self controlled people they dont kill people for he name of religion.. please do not show your stupidness on the WEB..
Quick input here - Buddhism is non-theistic - there is no prayer, therefore, the statement is not valid. What may LOOK like prayer is paying reverence to the teacher, Siddhartha. Eastern culture holds the concept of bowing as a way of revering and respecting one another.
The hands together in what looks like prayer is a "mudra" which is a centering motion, to focus on the heart/mind.
Buddhism does not replace other religions. It is hard to call Buddhism a religion since it does not postulate a God on high overseeing and judging our actions. Rather Buddhism is the practice of understanding and managing our own minds. Instead of a "higher power" Buddhism looks to an inner power our "Buddha nature". That means members of the various religions can use some Buddhist techniques without violating the rules of their faiths.
Not exactly. There's a different reason for us buddhists do that. Read buddhasknowbest's comment. Besides, the tradition of prostrating in front of respected ones already existed in ancient India. We're not emulating Islam, although we respect your tradition and religion. Please do not mistake things.
Muslims do not pray like Buddhists. Buddha is not a prophet of any God nor a prophet of Islam or Christianity. Buddhists do not believe in an almighty allpowering God (whatever the name is). Obviously Moinansari does not understand Buddhism very much.
Buddha NEVER ask any one to worship him.The followers who do that, he said that behave properly is the important thing. So we can worship him in any situation and there are many methods which have been using to pray Buddha.
In fact Buddhism began many years before the Islam, so only thing I can say is Muslims just copied this from Buddhists .
it is not true. Buddha isn't one of prophet. The theory isn't base on any fact. The most important thing the way of their practice is more like the jew's. search the jews practice beside at their wall.
some people are just wise enough to recognize between Good and Evil , Light and Dark , Bad and Good . Hell or heaven
those who can't I hope they can someday , try to read the quran for once .... please !! you can read it online for free or here on youtube .... do it what's the big deal
Physically, the 2 pray styles may look alike, but their meaningful purpose of the 2 are totally different.
_Muslims pray to their god who exists materialisticlly and create the universe
_Buddhists pray to the idea of enlightment which does not have to be god (coz buddism does not really believe in god), they just pray to show their appreciation to the wisdom in whichever form that wisdom i . If a person pratises wise mind, sharp analysing, then the person bow down to pray to his/herself

for the followers of the pedophile barbar and their helpers but also for those who ignore their collective responsibility believing all those horrible things out there do not concern them. They ALL will be taken into their responsibility, ALL without exception !!!
OGMIOS and the 144000 predicted truthful one
In the name of the father + the son + the holy spirit. Amen
the followers of the pedophile imperator do not believe in the Jesus Christ the Savior, but propose a strategically and artificially manipulated version of a Jesus figure which neve existed (without "Christ" and under criminal denial of the LORDs most fondamental characteristics and principles, words and deeds) as their DHIMMI-prophet for their satanic ideology.
Mohammed knew he need Jesus as a Dhimmiprophet to achieve his goal of submission of the christians and for world conquest

its not the same prayers they just pend and stand without saying anything and they bent to a statue nonesense and buddha God say that he sent massengers to all people on earth i believe he was one of them for the asian but they didn't took his massege to worship one God they worshipped him instead fools
Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide. (Quran 13:7) Lo! We have sent thee with the Truth, a bearer of glad tidings and a warner; and there is not a nation but a warner hath passed among them. (Quran 35:24)
This is because Buddhism was the first religion that started religious proselytism which is to convert and evangelism! Even the Halo behind jesus is an eastern symbol for enlightenment or Nirvana. Before that you where either born a Jew or a Hindu but you cant convert to another religion. Its the first prototype and the Jews copied it and made Christianity and later Muhammad copied Christianity,Judaism,Buddhism and Arab cults and made Islam.

Since the emergence of Islam it has been widely accepted and the number of the new converted is highly increased in spite of the differences between their colors, languages or races. There are a lot of non-Arabs who have converted to Islam
so you think the "spirit" of worshipping a "false god" like "buddha" just happens to look SIMILAR to worshipping "allah"?when "allah" looked down to the earth, he said to himself...hmmm, I like how the buddhists pray...ill make that the prayer style for myself"?????? a new style that Jews/Christians never saw....Inever saw a muslim "fall" on their face! in Bible everytime it says that..it was out of EMOTION.... NOT at a set time of day!!!like a robot..who might go bombing after
This is a Mahayana Buddhist practice to show respect to the Lord Buddha. It's not ridiculously act of praying. And Buddhist so not pray like a MUSLIM because Buddhist came way too long before Islam. Who is really following who????
Buddhists do not worship a God like Muslims or other followers of theistic religions. Buddhism existed long before Mohamad's parents fornicated, so can we conclude that Muslims copied Buddhists?
Stupid title!! Shows that muslims are not wise. They dont even realise that Buddhists are not praying to a dead man. The Buddha said that he was not a God!! So how can buddhists be praying?? Stupid muslims, go back to your villages and dont bother the educated world with your useless troublemaking propaganda.
BUddha is not the prophet of ALLAH BUt BUDDHA WORSHIP ALLAH AND MENTION ABOUT OUR HOLLY MUHAMMAD PROPHET PEACE BE UPON HIM ...will come will more religious than him..more GODLY and pious and GREAT.
they are not praying they are doing meditatative devotions. buddhist repeat mantras that they believe resonate good vibrations to all living beings. they do not believe in worshiping a creator.
why we should pray to a human n worship to his idol ,well ok he tought us good teaching n he's a holy person but that doesnt mean i should pray to him to show respect unless he's my god cuz praying is only a thing that is meant to god therefore buddhist treat buddha as a god without realizing this as well as being under the catogry of pagan since buddhist worship to buddah's idol
buddhist pray to buddah to show respect n they think he's a holy person but not a god still this whole praying thing doesnt make sense to me cuz praying=praying to god no matter what u say he/she is n no matter what it is for .
i like the teachings of buddah n i even like to med.but there is something that bothers me in buddhism n thats on of the things why i dont take buddhism as my religion,
well there are countless branches to buddhism, some pray, some dont. in esense buddhism covers all the possible religions you can think of, anything christianity has buddhism has, anything islam has buddhism has. keep inmind that buddhism is supposedly one of the oldest religions out there, even older than judaism.
being a buddhist myself, i do belief in jesus and allah and the holy spirit, while i do understand that any kind of path to enlightment is good.
Do your homework first before you speak. Buddhism is 2598 years old and Islam 1380 years old. It should be Muslims pray like how the Buddhists pay respect to Buddha
Buddhist do not pray. Buddhists pay respect to the Buddha. The purpose is to remind us to be as pure and virtuous like the Buddha.
Buddhists work for enlightenment by purifying the mind. Enlightenment is an eternal and blissful mental state that can be experienced this life itself.
FYI, Buddhism is hundreds of years earlier than Christianity and Islam. Anyway, it's not important for us Buddhists to pray but more important to keep teachings of Buddha in mind and to practice them in everyday life.
Buddhist prays may look like muslims from the outside but the meaning and inner focus is completely different. We do NOT worship Buddha or anyone else. When we bow it's our ego that we bow down to our own 'Buddhaness' that is inside us waiting to be developed...
jesus and all prophets were muslim means they were worshiping one god Allah, the message had the same purpose but the practical things are little bit different, just one q did jesus pray to a cross?!!!
Moinansari, you are mistaken my friend. In general, Buddhists do not "pray" like Muslims. We must also distinguish between cultural and religious practices. Supplicatory prayer was not advocated nor recommended by the founder of Buddhism. To the surprise of many, Gautama the Buddha not only denied being a "god" but also outrightly rejected the existence of an omnipotent creator (e.g., Allah or Yahweh). They may prostrate somewhat like Muslims, but, their intent is different.
the thing you guy's miss is the practises of the pryer in islam did not come from prophet mohammed it was thugt from allh"god" to him to tech the humans how to pry for him "god" ,
Jesus spent many yr in Kapal Wasto the town where Budha (Dul-Kapal in Quran)was born in order to learn and then teach. This is historical fact that cannot be denied. Budha was prophet of GOD but later his all teachings were twisted and corupted. I have read lot lot abt Buda and I am 100 % sure that he is the DUL-KAPAL TWICE MENTIONED IN QURAN as a great person
islam and budhism are too different in teaching only a very few things like patince and snger manadgement are similar. however the prayers of both faiths are completly different.
*continue. buddhist cannot pray because...how can a buddhist pray if buddha is not even a god?
this is easy, buddha is not even a god,hes a religion that people follows and they cannot pray to a dead person, they just follow his teachings,i'm not trying to be rude on your video but, buddhist cannot pray to buddha because hes not a god and hes already dead, you just follow his teachings and you don't have to believe in him,so...buddha is buddha, not a god.
Now they're bowing down, let me give you an example, you meet someone that is 120 years old,and you are 25,and you woke up to this person, you not just going to shake their hands, you will probably want to do something more then that, probably kiss their feet, because of their knowledge, and if you ae a muslim, you would wear a hat and pray, and when a buddhist bows, they can bow in any way because they cannot pray...Read the next comment.
it is totaly deferent kind of prayer, becose the budist pray to a statue, and human shaped god, paganic cult, which is nothing similar to islamic slow motion devoted prostration infront of the Creator of the creations..amoung that is this statue
Read Karen Armstrong "History of God". Buddha came 600 years before Jesus, and the prophet Muhammad came 600 years after Jesus. The Quran does NOT say how to do "salat". The way of prayer was designated by the prophet who had advice and help from many cultural factors.
One should also consider that prostration In Islam is indicative of the inability of man to grasp the totality of the Essence of Allah, which is why the brain is the focal point of the (physical) act. As well as it being indicative of the Prophet's tittle 'unlettered' that which goes beyond words (i.e.love).
One has to consider that the Islamic act of sajdah is idicative of our inability to concieve of the Essence of Allah thus is the brain (i.e mind)the focal point of the act. As well as it being indicative of the Prophet's title of the 'unlettered' beyond words [i.e..love].
I think that you should all check out DEBU's videos, especially the song Ucapkanlah bersama (in Indonesian) or the Turkish version called Hep beraber. It is calling all people Muslims,Hindus,Buddhists,Chistians everyone to say La ilaha ilallah (There is no God but The God).
I removed nasty comments. Essentially the purpose of posting the video was show commonality between religions in prayer/meditation. those who get into dogma and find differences are welcome to do so. Since the Quran say mentions only a few of the prophets, many Muslims think that Buddha may have been a sage or a prophet. Of course his teachings have changed.
Maybe Buddha was one of Gods prophet

What a strange conclusion. You see a few buddhist women bowing in a similar way to muslims, and you conclude that what they pray, what they think, who they pray to etc. is the same. First of all: praying is not a physical exercise. Second of all, not all buddhists bow in this way (perhaps typically Korean?). Third of all: muslims pray to the god, buddhists don't have a god. Etc. etc. etc.
Perhaps you should try reading a book or talking to people about their religion.....

Buddhism existed about a 1000 years BEFORE Islam.......dude-you got it mixed up. Buddhist do not pray to anyone-the symbolization of the kneeling is a way to show respect. and finally, "Buddha" is not a god-it is a state of mind. it translates as "the awakened one"
azrael407 11 months ago 40
@azrael407 Your comment is based on your own belief system. Muslims believe that Islam existed at the time of Abraham and he was a Hanafi (pure Muslim)--in fact the Quran clearly says that Abraham was neither a Muslim nor a Sabin, he was a Muslim". Peace to you and your belief system. This video was posted to show the commonality of religions and the common ground
moinansari 10 months ago 14
@moinansari hey dude no offense meant-and yes there will always be common ground between different cultures due to the fact that, that is how people develop their own (borrowing is a basis in all cultures-development is all their own)-anyway-my point was that though similarities connect many belief structures, you have to acknowledge the differences (in this case) because Buddhism is not a religion. the kneeling is purely a cultural similarity not one based on beliefs.
azrael407 10 months ago

@moinansari why do you say budhists pray like moslems? surely, if there is a similarity in the posturing etc, it means that moslems pray like buddhists - not the other way round. it's an older religion.
blueray1969 1 year ago
@moinansari Although, I agree whole-heartedly that eschewing comments aimed at Islam with the intent of harm is never warranted. Your posts have merit though I would like to point out that if you tell a Buddhist that the founder of Buddhism may have been a Muslim prophet may, in fact, insult them. Though Buddhists rejoice in the multiplicity of religions, to think that a Monotheistic creator exists is contrary to their main beliefs, as the Buddha taught otherwise.
TheNcmiller2 11 months ago
Nctrls211:
Naik also proposes that the Qur’anic mention of the fig tree (95.1-5) refers to Buddha as well, since he attained to enlightenment at the foot of one.

@nctrls2 Actually, Jesus and Abraham may peace be upon them were muslim. Islam is to remain steadfast in religion. Islam was not perfected until the time of our blessed prophet peace be upon him.

Hi,
In Buddhism, Lord Buddha is not a person or any statue, although portrayed that way, but a Buddhist who practices understands our Buddha nature is that which is NOT form, NOT feeling, NOT perception, NOT formed, NOT consciousness.
We also sacrifice self, anatta, or practice not self, this is Islam...to offer all that is self to Buddha...allowing only our own enlightened Buddha mind to prevail.
A Buddhist also lives by the Panch sila or 5 precepts 1) refrain from killing 2) refrain from

I hope this clarifies the issue a bit.

Muslims believe that Jesus and Abraham was a Muslim. Many Muslims believe that Buddha is mentioned in the Quran and was a prophet of Islam

#1:Buddhist don't pray.
#2:Theres a Difference praying and bowing.
