@versie18 The guitar is a Cort Earth1200 - it's a hand-made Korean model, now out of production, I think. The pattern on the neck is quite a standard Tree of Life inlay. I'm really impressed by the finish, the work around the body and the sound-hole is also really beautiful.
An attempt at it? Better in my opinion, much better than thomson and much closer to traditional versions. This is a really great version, thanks for sharing it.
Wonderful. I've listend to a couple other renditions you've created and I must say that you are a real master of the spirit of the guitar. Andrea Segovia would have been your friend. I would like to ask (being a guitar player myself) what is the open tuning you're using here? What is your history and influence of open tunings and the use of capo. It's funny that I'm reminded of Andrea Segovia when I listen to this.. Perhaps it was his patient use of notes for effect which is what you do.?
Thanks very much. I'm using a regular Open C tuning. I first started using open tuning after listening to Fahey, Grossman, Renbourn, Drake and Martyn and a few others. Always found it pretty costly on strings. Then I really started looking more seriously at open tunings a year and a half ago.
Thanks very much - it's very kind of you! It is one of my favourite traditional songs - you can feel the precarious relationship between sailors, their families and the sea.
your rendition gives me shivers. Keep up the wonderful singing!

Please tell me what kind of guitar you are using. The pattern on the neck looks very simular to what is on my banjo, Which is a Goldtone!

I almost always use a capo. I prefer the sound with a capo, and it's easier to change key to suit my voice.

Just listened to Thompson's version, your is so much more moving: he's not the only one with a masterful version
Thank you once more

I have to agree with previous comments, absolutely beautiful version of the song. One of, if not the best version I've heard.

Thanks very much - it's amazing but the beauty of it is that it's so simple, but then that's true of so much.
