i feel that rome total war can get boring after a while idk why. i have most mods and there is a point which im just doing diplomatic shit and not even fighting battles. i feel like medieval 2 battles are way cooler
Personally, I find Rome: Total War far more enjoyable than Medieval II: Total War. I find that battles in M2TW are a bit awkward and sluggish, and unit movements there look pretty weird. Meanwhile, RTW battles feel more fast-paced and fun even though the graphics may not be as flashy as in Medieval II. There's also the problem of M2TW's ugly strategic map, which has really prevented me from playing the campaign for more than two turns...
@oliverxboxable i put the longbowman up against the mongol horde in the campaign map as they are the hardest to defend against when they arrive on the map. they just storm the walls and the entrances making defending with what ever unit hard at best. if the first attack doesn't take your city, the second one will as you don't get a chance to retain your army. but the Longbowman destroy the cavalry with no effort. try defending a city from the Temurids with England. so much fun.
Rome Total War is fucking hard. I was playing MTW2, and didn't have to worry about factions fucking me up in the first 10 rounds. RTW on the other hand, attacked by Gaul in turn 3, attacked by Germania turn 15, Allied Julii turn 20, attacked by Brutii turn 27, attacked by Spain turn 34, Allied Dracia turn 42, attacked by Macedonia turn 42. I also was getting ass raped whenever i would battle sim, like 1200 v 500 i would lose 400-700 troops.. Very action packed compared to MTW2.

medieval have better graphics, but gameplay pales in comparison. the flashy graphics in medieval 2 can be extremely annoying at times, it often clouds the details of the battle, the units are also rather difficult to properly remember in medieval 2 (units disorganised). but the most annoying problem of all with medieval 2 is that they nerfed the cavalry charge to dust. in medieval 2, its pretty much mostly infantry fights and numbers that decide most battles, not strategy.
@wengkeat5 The only thing I agree with is yes cav charges did get royally fucked. I remember trying to charge the first time I got the game and was expecting flying men and nothing of the sort happened, even though the cav in medieval 2 are REALLY HEAVY!

the thing i liked about rome was the little speach at the begining of a battle. it would give you advice. and if the odds were stacked against you he would go on and on and on. and sometimes say something crazy like "they may have elephants better spears better armor and artilliary...but WE have these pretty hats. so fight on fight well...ill cover our rear defence"

Actually, this could all depend, Rome has a very high chance of winning this battle, Europe plunged into a time worse than when Rome was at it's height after Rome fell, and it stayed that way up until the Industrial age, Rome had a much more broader, bigger, organized army than that of any army in the medieval times believe it or not.
Medieval 2 is much better, not only because of the graphics, it's also based on tactics more then on unit power, you can actually win with a smaller army of weak units against an bigger army with better units, if you got a good strategy, the things I tried in Rome - when units of slow phalanx get surrounded by light infantry and charged on with cavalry a lot of times are still very hard to kill, witch is unreal, settlement management is also more realistic, in Rome they rebel really fast

@cas123321 It is a LOT different, improved graphics, improved campaign map, greater variety of troops. You can probably get it fairly cheap as well. The gold edition's about 10 dollars on play.com.

@cas123321 thats not true. You can have all games installed at the same time at one time I had RTW, RTWBI, MTW, MTW2, MTWKingdoms, ETW and a great RTW mod called Europa Barbarorum installed all at once. they all worked fine. One more thing if you can't get MTW to play go over and get the RTW EB mod if you need any help installing (which most people do need) let me know. It will make you forget about RTW and Barbarian invasion guarenteed but get ready for a REAL challenge lol.
@cas123321 it depends you can buy Ram and install it yourself and save alot of money, same goes with the vid card. Its actually pretty easy to install just look up how to assemble or dissassemble a computer. Just really make sure you know what your doing first. I may be wrong but you can probubly get enough RAm and a better vid card for under $150 at certain sites.
I find the Medieval 2 campaign far more enjoyable and challenging. Iv'e completed the RTW war campaign on hardest difficulty with no problem. As for medieval 2, there are far more objectives to complete and the crusades are a great bonus. Agents are more useful and your armies armour changes when you upgrade them. Medieval 2 is better
@JMchief93elite I find it all pretty easy even on very hard and i never use cheats, usually by 20 turns I control most of the map or have such an advantage financially nobody is left who presents any kind of challenge. I think the AI is messed up though it seems normal actually it seems kind of clever even on medium.
Rome would theoretically be able to beat stuff right up until the flintlock and massed artillery age (i mean from like 1740) and beat decisively. After that they'd be pwned by cannon and grape shot.

I could definetly imagine this like an army who was so in love with Rome that they dressed and fought like them during the medieval times and then they broke away from the church and attacked...very cool.

Actually, this could all depend, Rome has a very high chance of winning this battle, Europe plunged into a time worse than when Rome was at it's height after Rome fell, and it stayed that way up until the Industrial age, Rome had a much more broader, bigger, organized army than that of any army in the medieval times believe it or not.

Medieval 2 is much better, not only because of the graphics, it's also based on tactics more then on unit power, you can actually win with a smaller army of weak units against an bigger army with better units, if you got a good strategy, the things I tried in Rome - when units of slow phalanx get surrounded by light infantry and charged on with cavalry a lot of times are still very hard to kill, witch is unreal, settlement management is also more realistic, in Rome they rebel really fast

The best game Sega could create now,is not Shogun 2 but RTW 2.If i was to make decisions,i would create something like RTW but i would include all the Greek factions like Pergamum,Macedon,Thrace,Seleucid Empire,Pontus(as a greek-persian state)and also Bactria.I would also like the same graphics from M2TW.That would be perfect.thumbs up if you agree

i like medieval 2 total war best. it is soo mutch more detail in medieval then rome and that makes the game com to life... and in medieval they are actually fighting, but in rome they just stand there and hitt once. thumbs up if you agree

@NOON6991 I haven´t played medival but still rome total war and rome total war alexander have pretty good fighting quality and the soldiers don´t die in one strike. If they did that with you "you probably have a glitchy game ;) "

@NOON6991 No? Medieval 2 is like if you get sworded once you dont surivie that? Do you? In Rome Total war they get hitt once by a attack then they fall to the ground. That is what a realistic environment comes in. By the way? Rome TW got 9.1. overall critics which medieval 2 got 88. I dunno which is better? hahahaha! Irony*

hey if i can play rtw brbrn invasion on medium graphics, could my computer play medieval total war on lowest graphics and detail? i looked at the difference of system requirements and it wasn't that much.. this question could save me some money so thanks in advance. i really want to play this game but im not sure my computer could handle it :)

@cas123321 It is a LOT different, improved graphics, improved campaign map, greater variety of troops. You can probably get it fairly cheap as well. The gold edition's about 10 dollars on play.com.

@muchosmerc i guess but then i would have to delete axis and allies, rtw, rtw barbarian invasion, and rtw alexander, just to play one game. at least, my brother said that in order to play mtw, i would have to delete all of them. my computer is that shitty. is that true?

@cas123321 thats not true. You can have all games installed at the same time at one time I had RTW, RTWBI, MTW, MTW2, MTWKingdoms, ETW and a great RTW mod called Europa Barbarorum installed all at once. they all worked fine. One more thing if you can't get MTW to play go over and get the RTW EB mod if you need any help installing (which most people do need) let me know. It will make you forget about RTW and Barbarian invasion guarenteed but get ready for a REAL challenge lol.

@cas123321 it depends you can buy Ram and install it yourself and save alot of money, same goes with the vid card. Its actually pretty easy to install just look up how to assemble or dissassemble a computer. Just really make sure you know what your doing first. I may be wrong but you can probubly get enough RAm and a better vid card for under $150 at certain sites.

I find the Medieval 2 campaign far more enjoyable and challenging. Iv'e completed the RTW war campaign on hardest difficulty with no problem. As for medieval 2, there are far more objectives to complete and the crusades are a great bonus. Agents are more useful and your armies armour changes when you upgrade them. Medieval 2 is better

@JMchief93elite I find it all pretty easy even on very hard and i never use cheats, usually by 20 turns I control most of the map or have such an advantage financially nobody is left who presents any kind of challenge. I think the AI is messed up though it seems normal actually it seems kind of clever even on medium.

Rome would theoretically be able to beat stuff right up until the flintlock and massed artillery age (i mean from like 1740) and beat decisively. After that they'd be pwned by cannon and grape shot.
